Battle Cry
Viviane had to encourage Anne to step back from her summoning after nearly thirty minutes of silence. Only the wind howled like a whisper around them, almost as if Anne was being mocked by nature itself.
They had to get back in the car and, as much as it pained Viviane, continue driving down the road. Just what were they going to do? Just where were they going to go? How could they get Gadreel back from that angel? They couldn't tell him what he wanted to know. Clara and Crowley would be outraged and then they'd be screwed.
She glanced over at her daughter, staring out of the window with tears falling down her cheek. She had to do something, but she was clueless.
"Make it fast, Dead Girl." Said a familiar grave voice from the backseat. Viviane looked up into the review mirror as Anne glanced behind her.
"Crowley." Anne said with relief, but the King of Hell just stared at her as if annoyed. "You have to bring him back." she added and he glanced around in the car.
"Who?" he asked with sarcasm.
"Gadreel!" she snapped, but Crowley just arched an eyebrow.
"What, he died?" he asked once again with sarcasm, which was annoying Anne. "Again?" he added and she snapped once more.
"An angel took him because he wants information on Hell!" she said and Crowley lifted his chin and narrowed his eyes at her, as if he wasn't thrilled and was thinking if this truly concerned him. "You have to get him back." she added and he glanced at Viviane and then back at Anne.
"Not my problem." He said and Anne gasped in shock.
"You said you'd protect us." She said and he glanced at her mother again.
"Clara said you and your mother, and may I add that it was only from my demons?" he said and Anne was shocked into silence. She glanced at her mother with wide eyes.
Viviane knew the moment she dreaded had arrived and she couldn't admit to her daughter that she lied. However, the look in Anne's eyes broke her heart. How could she not tell her the truth?
"Mom?" she asked and Viviane, as much as she wanted to say something, couldn't make a sound.
"Mommy Dearest told you that Clara and I would protect all three of you from the big bad world?" Crowley asked mockingly. "Hate to burst your bubble, but that isn't the case. Now, I'm sure you'll get the poor sap back, but not with my help." He said and Anne turned her head and hardened her eyes.
"If that angel tortures Gadreel and threatens to hurt me, do you really think he won't tell him that Clara is pregnant?" she asked and Crowley's facial expression turned blank, but his eyes were dark with annoyance blending with anger. "This is your problem, King of Hell. If you want to protect this bit of information, you have to protect all three of us against angels like the one that took Gadreel." She added and stared at him, challenging him so it seemed.
Viviane didn't dare look into the review mirror, afraid of what she would see in Crowley's eyes.
Then Anne turned in her seat and looked out the windshield. Viviane then had the courage to look up and the backseat was empty. She glanced over at her daughter, proud of her fearlessness. However, when Anne looked at her, she wasn't happy that her mother lied.
"I'm sorry, I just couldn't hurt you." She said, and although Anne seemed hurt, she smiled softly.
"It's alright Mom." She said and tapped her shoulder and looked back out the window. "Crowley will get him back." she added.
Crowley appeared in this abandoned factory with several endless halls. However, he was right where he needed to be. He stood before a giant vault with sigils plastered all over it, only it was protection against angels, not demons. This was the work of a rogue angel, probably trying to kiss someone's ass.
Crowley walked up and snapped his fingers, opening the door.
"Who's there?" said a raspy voice Crowley knew all too well to be Gadreel.
Then the door slammed shut and flapping wings echoed in the factory. Crowley turned and there stood the rogue angel, looking as menacing as he could manage.
"The so called King of Hell himself." The angel said and Crowley grinned.
"The one and only." He replied and smirked. Then, the sound of flapping wings filled the silence and there were now four more angels standing around him, glaring at him.
"Indeed, just one." The angel said and smirked, although it lacked character.
At that moment, something violently protruded from the angel's chest and it was jagged as well as old looking. The angel's body glowed in a blinding fashion and then went still. When the old jawbone was ripped out from behind the angel, and the body fell to the floor, the angels stepped back as they stared in horror at the Knight of Hell who stared at the body with such darkness in his eyes.
He simply looked at the old jawbone and glanced up at the angels with a slight grin, blinking his eyes black.
"One down, four more to go." He said and one angel turned to Crowley and glared.
"Cannot fight your own battles?" the angel asked and Crowley narrowed his eyes as he smirked.
"That's what a Knight is for." He replied and the angels stood no chance as Nikolai sprung into action, not wasting his time, stabbing one angel and then another with such force and anger. A third jumped, pulling out an angel blade that was no match for the First Blade. Nikolai ducked and when the angel tried to stab him in the back, he quickly rose and hooked the First Blade in the angel's chest. Once that angel was dead, the fourth disappeared, leaving behind the echo of his cowardly flapping wings.
Crowley snapped his fingers and the door of the vault opened. After a few hesitating seconds, Gadreel stepped out with bloody knuckles and looked down at all those bodies with the burnt markings on the cement floor of large wings. He looked up at Nikolai and at Crowley with a deep frown.
"Why did you kill them?" he asked.
"They were in my way." Nikolai replied, that darkness still lingering in his eyes, a grin on his face as if he enjoyed killing. When Gadreel met his eyes, he narrowed his own and felt enraged.
"They were only doing what they thought was best for Heaven." Gadreel said and Nikolai put the jawbone in the back of his jeans and shrugged his shoulders.
"They were idiots. So are you if you defend them after what they did to you and were going to do." He said and before Gadreel could argue, Crowley grabbed him by the collar, pulling him forward impatiently.
"I don't have all day." He said and snapped his fingers.
Gadreel was sitting in the back of a car, looking at the dashboard and when he glanced at Anne, she turned to look back as if she knew he was there. The second she met his eyes, she lit up and seemed relieved.
"Gadreel!" she said and turned to face him, filled with excitement.
"Don't think you can call me whenever you have a problem." Crowley said and they all glanced at him, as if surprised he was there. "You may view Clara as being part of your little family, but keep in mind that I don't. She'll have her own and I won't allow her to rip herself in half just for you." He added and vanished, leaving an awkward silence in that car.
As happy as they were to be together once again, they knew they weren't really as safe as they thought. Heaven knew that they had information on Hell and Crowley was getting pissed off with them. There was no neutral zone: just the center of a War zone.
