The song here is "Human" by Gabrielle Aplin
Human
Castiel returned to Heaven once he began calling out to some angels to spread the word. Heaven was full of angels, talking amongst each other and glancing at Castiel. Within minutes, more came and then after a while, they all ceased talking and all just stared at Castiel, as if waiting to see what he was trying to do.
The last time he stood before a large crowd of his fellow angels, he ended up trying to replace their Father. That didn't go so well and although some liked and trusted him, many couldn't and wouldn't.
He sighed as he looked at their faces and knew it would not be an easy task to bring them together and fight in a united fashion.
"As you all know, there is something growing in Hell." He said and paused. The angels were more silent than he anticipated and it made him feel slightly nervous, which was odd. Still, he forced himself to continue and not to linger on that feeling. "I've come to learn that it's Clara, the Queen." He said and paused. "She's with child." He added and the angels than glanced at each other with worry and disbelief and Castiel tried to get their attention, but he could barely hear his own voice.
"Please." He said and still, it was not loud enough. "Please." He spoke over the voices. Soon, they all fell silent and turned back their attention to him. "We must come together and stand against an imminent attack from Hell. We must be ready or else it'll be a catastrophe of epic proportions." He said and they all just stared at him, their expressions difficult to read.
"We stand no chance even if we do as you have planned." One angel said and Castiel nodded in agreement.
"There's a chance we may fail, yes, but we will certainly fail if we do nothing." he said and the angels continued to stare, but he could see they were listening attentively. He was getting through to them. "If Clara and her child attack Heaven or try to conquer the humans, they might just win, but are we not underestimating the power of Heaven?" he asked and they stared at him as if they didn't quite know what he meant.
He stared at those faces and sighed, thinking back to the old days.
"It would appear that evil has always been stronger, but without Heaven and the angels, it would have ruled and destroyed the world long ago." he said and saw that some of them got it. "We can stand a chance if only we try and do so together. Is it not time we put the fear back into the hearts of demons like we did long ago?" he asked and the angels that didn't care for him shook their heads.
"Stories, Castiel. Only stories. The demons never feared us." One said and Castiel took the moment to perhaps change the fate of this gathering, maybe even of Heaven, for the rest of time.
"Then we will give them a reason." He said and the angels remained silent.
Then, Hannah stood out from the others and stepped up.
"Are you not an agent of peace, Castiel?" she asked and the angels all seemed in agreement with her. "When you tried to lead us, you failed. Your heart is in the right place, but you simply lack the leadership required to succeed." She added, more harshly than Castiel anticipated from her, but he couldn't deny it.
Now as he looked at the angels, he knew everything he said no longer mattered. It didn't leave its mark on them. It was forgotten. He began to doubt his efforts would work and he began fearing that Hell didn't have to try hard to defeat Heaven.
It was that horrifying thought that drove him onward.
"Then perhaps you can." He said and she seemed stunned. The angels looked at her and, yet again, their expressions were difficult to read. "Perhaps you can succeed. We just need to focus all of our efforts on Hell." He added and the angels were silent. "And perhaps, we can match Hell with a weapon of our own." He said and they all stared at him with knit brows.
"What do you mean?" Hannah asked him.
"The Nephilim." He replied and after a few seconds of stunned silence, the angels silence turned into an uproar of shouts and disagreements. They still viewed Jane as an abomination and it would be a whole new fight to get them to change their views of her. "Hell embraced a Cambion. Can we not embrace a Nephilim?" he asked and the angels were outraged with him now.
Hannah was silent, but she stared at him as if he had gone insane. Castiel couldn't believe what he was seeing. Why was it so difficult for them to accept Jane? Why were they so rigid about everything?
"Are demons better than us?" he asked and they fell silent, clearly insulted. "There is grace in the Nephilim, can we now accept it? The fact that she's part human, is that what disgusts us?" he asked and still they remained silent. "Why? Do we fear that half of her? Do we wish to stay far from that half? Is that why we stay away from humans? Because we fear what we do not understand?" he asked and they stared at him as if this had pushed them to think critically. "While we are afraid to understand humans, the demons are not and they'll rip the world from under our feet and every soul in it. Souls we were meant to protect." He said and then thought back to an angel that, as painful as it was to admit, was exactly what they should have been all these years.
He looked at those faces and thought of what that angel had once said. Clearly his words didn't linger in the minds of these angels; perhaps he could speak of this angel and this would encourage them to fight together.
"The first time Gadreel sacrificed himself, he had hoped he'd be remembered as one of the few that helped give Heaven a second chance. As we all know, Heaven would not be restored to its glory without another of his sacrifices" he said and watched their expressions. "Let us not allow that to be in vain." He concluded and remained silent as he watched the angels contemplate.
Was this all for nothing or did he give Heaven a fighting chance?
