Chapter 3: Autumn's Song

From afar, a little boy and girl were sitting on a tree branch. The little girl was singing as the boy read his manga.

"Pretty little birds

They come out to play

They listen to me when I sing

As I sit out today

Oh, what a wonderful world this is

With weather like this

How does it get worse

Oh, someone hear it sing

The breeze will take you out

You see, you're not the only one

To feel sad

To be alone

To miss your home

Pretty little birds

Please carry out my song

When autumn comes

You'll sing along"

"Hey, Nat-kun. Isn't that a sad song?" Natsume gave the little girl a blank stare, "Idiot. If you think it's sad, why are you singing it?"

"Wah! Nat-kun, you're not suppose to curse like that! Mama says your tongue will fall out if you use bad language like that!"

Natsume flicked the girl's forehead, "Idiot, my tongue won't fall out."

"I knew I'd find you here."

Natsume slowly opened his eyes, "What do you want, Ruka?" Ruka sat next to Natsume, who was laying down under the cherry blossom tree. "Hotaru and I are going out to Central Town to grab a bite, I wanted to let you know before I left."

"You know you don't have to report to me every time you leave, right?" Natsume got up and scratched the back of his head.

"I know. It just became a habit," Ruka paused, "especially since I know you'd be here."

"Hn"

"Don't forget we have a meeting today at seven. Hotaru and I will be out until then, so I won't be able to remind you."

Natsume sighed, "Ruka. You don't need to remind me, I know."

Ruka shook his head, "We know that you do, it's just whether or not you will show up."

"I'll be there this time, just go already. Imai is waiting."

"Right, okay. I'll see you at the meeting then, bye Natsume" Ruka got up and began to walk away from the cherry blossom tree.

Natsume laid back down and covered his eyes with his arms.

"Nat-kun, are you awake?"

"Hn," the little girl hit the boy on his shoulder. "Stop responding with that! Hn's not a word!"

"Whatever." There was a silence between both children. Natsume rolled over to look at the little girl. He saw that she was avoiding eye contact. Not really understanding why, he thought about if he did something wrong earlier in the day. Natsume couldn't think of anything though. Since he and the little girl arrived to the campsite they have been having fun, and were still teasing each other.

"Neh, Nat-kun?" This time the little girl did look up. Natsume couldn't read her eyes, that was a first. "Nat-kun, I won't be able to play with you after camp."

Natsume sat up abruptly, "What?"

Following Natsume, the little girl sat up as well, "Mommy and Daddy have decided where we are moving to and after that, they're signing me up for a private school too."

"Why can't you just stay here? We have a private school here, and you can stay with my family. You don't have to move, right?"

"I can't, Nat-kun." The little girl began to cry, Natsume sat up and pulled her up with him. "Hey, stop crying. You look twice as ugly when you cry."

She then rubbed her eyes, "Ha, Hotaru-chan says that." Natsume hugged her, "It's okay if you move away, I will still be here, so you can visit me whenever."

Hugging him back, she asks Natsume to sing the Autumn's Song to her. Natsume agreed and they laid back down into their sleeping bags. Natsume began to sing.

"Pretty little birds

They come out to play

They listen to me when I sing

As I sit out today

Oh, what a wonderful world this is

With weather like this

How does it get worse

Oh, someone hear it sing

The breeze will take you out

You see, you're not the only one

To feel sad

To be alone

To miss your home

Pretty little birds

Please carry out my song

When autumn comes

You'll sing along""

Natsume sat up in frustration, 'Why are you still appearing in my dreams.' The little girl was nothing more than a distant memory to Natsume. She hasn't visited him, nor has he heard back from her. Natsume doesn't even remember her name, but despite that, he would dream about the moments they had together.

He would ask his mom about her when he was younger, being that his mother and the little girl's mother were friends, yet she would know nothing about their whereabouts. All she knows is that "Yuka's family is going through a rough time." And since his mother looked really distressed talking about her dear friend, Natsume never bothered with the topic again.

Natsume got up and took out his phone. It was already seven fifteen. Not that being late was anything new, Natsume put his phone back into his pocket and walked away from his tree.

On the other side of the campus, Yuu is showing Mikan the whole campus before they reach her dorm room.

"The library is there, but there is a library located your dormitory as well."

"Wow! That's amazing!"

Yuu laughed a little, "Mikan-san, you truly enjoy this, don't you?" Giving Yuu the biggest smile, Mikan nodded her head.

"I'm glad. Well, here we are, your dormitory is right here." Mikan looked up and noticed how the building was a tad bit over exaggerated with the designs. Mikan sweat dropped in her mind and continued to walk into the dormitory.

Yuu led her to the fifth floor at the end of the hall way. "I believe this is your room, 595."

Mikan slid her key on the door lock. When the door opened, Yuu saw how it was empty and full of boxes. "Wah, you have a lot to unpack Mikan-san," he scanned a bit more and bowed his head slightly, "I'm sorry, but I won't be able to stay and help you. I have a meeting to go to and I'm a bit late."

Yuu bowed again, "I'm sorry!"

Mikan giggled a bit, "Don't worry about it Yuu, I can handle this. Plus! Tomorrow is a day off, right? I have enough time."

"Oh, if you say so, Mikan-san. I have to get going now though." Yuu backed up and bow as a good-bye. Mikan waved and went inside her room.

Locking her door, Mikan looked around. She walked to the balcony and made sure it was locked and the curtains were closed. After checking, she took in a deep breath. Her eyes glowed slightly of a cloudy light blue, she then began to move very quickly. Placing all her belongings in the correct places, and the boxes began to stack neatly in the corner. When she let go of her breath, her room was completed.

Feeling accomplished, Mikan laid on her bed and closed her eyes. The time was seven fifteen, and she decided to take a little nap.
