Wammyman: I am very sorry for not updating in so long. College is demanding, and my summer has been busy. Without further delay, here is the next chapter.

Chapter 10: The Preparations

At sundown, the body of Killer Bee was lying in front of Madara. His mask did an excellent job of hiding his smile.

"Good work," said the masked man, "our goal will soon be achieved."

"And just what is this goal," asked Suigetsu?

"All will be revealed in due time," Madara replied, "in the meantime, why don't you all rest for while? We still have the jinchūrikiof the Leaf to catch." While Madara carried Bee away, each member of Kira went into their own private chamber. Ryuk followed Sasuke into his chamber. Behind the chamber's steel door was a floor of stone with matching walls. There was also a wooden table with a lit candle next to the bed.

Sasuke laid on his bed silently for what seemed like hours. During that time, Sasuke stared at the ceiling. To him it looked blurry. Occasionally, Sasuke lifted up his hand and even that was tricky to make out. He never thought the mangekyō sharingan would take its toll so soon.

Tired of watching Sasuke do nothing, Ryuk finally said: "Hey, Sasuke."

"What," the shinobi asked in a bitter tone?

"I've been wondering," answered the Shinigami, "just how are you going to crush the Hidden Leaf Village? There's bound to be an army protecting it. You may be strong, but even you can only handle so many powerful ninja."

"Crushing the Leaf means killing the elders who govern it," Sasuke explained, "my comrades and the Akatsuki are strong enough to hold off any shinobi long enough for me to do that." Sasuke paused and pulled the Death Note out from under his shirt.

"This will also be helpful in fulfilling my revenge," he went on, "I'll have Karin at a distance writing names in it with any files the Akatsuki has on leaf ninja."

"What do you need the files for," asked Ryuk?

"The notebook is useless without knowing a person's name and face. The files can provide both." Hearing this made Ryuk laugh.

"What's so funny," Sasuke faced the Shinigami with narrow eyes.

"There's an easier way to use the Death Note," said Ryuk, "in exchange for half of their lifespan, I can grant a person the power to know someone's name just by looking at them."

Without thinking, Sasuke leaped out of bed and ran out of his chamber. As he kept running, Sasuke's surroundings got more blurry. Despite this, Sasuke was able to make his way into a chamber identical to his own. Inside was Karin laying in her bed with a dreamy look on her face. She had this look as she held a flower with two petals missing above her head. With the surprise of Sasuke's entrance, she had to quickly sit up and hide the flower before asking: "What is it Sasuke?" The young shinobi approached Karin with his notebook and said: "Look at this."

Karin opened the notebook and read the instructions. After closing the Death Note, Karin said: "I don't understand. Is this a-AH!" Karin stopped only to scream at the sight of Ryuk.

"He won't hurt you," Sasuke assured her, "that book really can kill people. This guy can give you the power to know a person's name by looking at them, but at a price."

"I'll take it," said Karin before Sasuke could finish explaining, "Whatever the price, I'll take it."

"Very well," Ryuk replied with a big smile. A second later, Karin could see Sasuke's name above his head.

"Incredible," Karin exclaimed in awe.

"Give me that power as well," ordered Sasuke.

"As you wish," Ryuk obeyed. Soon after Ryuk said this, there were no longer any blurs in Sasuke's vision. He was also able to see Karin's name and some numbers above her head. Sasuke couldn't help but smile.

"With this power," he declared, "I can easily kill anyone who stands between me and my revenge. In one day, I'll be able to crush the Leaf and restore honor to the Uchiha clan!"
