Mount Justice, the next day:

I scowled at my reflection in the bathroom mirror, adjusting the woolly hat. It didn't go well with my cat suit.

"You look ridiculous."

I spun around to find Robin in the doorway. I snatched the hat off, my cheeks staining pink. "Ever heard of knocking?"

He shrugged as if that was an answer. I gave an exasperated sigh. "What do you want, Robin?"

"Nothing." His cape swung as he leant against the doorframe. "Just wondering why you're hiding out in your room. It's not like Artemis hasn't noticed you're avoiding her. "

I clutched onto the sinks edge. "Give me a break, she's been awake for all of three hours. I hardly think she cares whether or not her attacker shows up to say hello."

"'Her attacker'?" He questioned. "Quit it with the self-pity, will you? Artemis was in a coma; how about focusing on her."

I clenched my jaw. "I am. And I'm pretty sure she wouldn't want Cat-Andie leaning over her hospital bed."

Robin paused, his lips curving into a devilish grin. "I wouldn't mind Cat-Andie leaning over my bed."

I shook my head and pushed past him to hide my blush. "You won't be saying that when my fangs appear."

He followed, entering my room. His fingers trailed my desk until he picked up the spell Zatanna gave us. "Then let's find a way of preventing that." He waved the paper in the air. "We need someone to perform the spell."

I cleared my throat. "Yeah, well… we do know one person."

He raised an eyebrow. "We do?"

I nodded sharply. "Klarion."

"…He's our enemy; the lord of chaos. Remember? The guys' tried to killed our teammates multiple times." Robin barked a laugh. "But most importantly… he's just a giant ass."

"Hear me out, will you?" I sat on the edge of my bed. "Klarion practices dark magic. He's probably the most experienced person we will ever find. He could help me."

"And what makes you think he will?"

"Because we have Zatanna." I grinned, all teeth. "And Zatanna has a powerful glamour. We'll do a trade-off."

Robin shook his head. "And here's where your plan turns to crap: Zee won't give us that necklace."

"You mean she won't give me that necklace." I folded my arms, a small smile playing on my lips. "But she'd cross Hell for you."

"I'm sorry," Robin said into the laptops webcam. "I was out of line yesterday." I eyed him from my corner on the couch; he was suspiciously good at fake apologies.

The Lounge was empty with only the odd Leaguer passing through. The rest of my teammates were still with Artemis in the infirmary. One hour later and the novelty hasn't worn off.

"Really?" asked Zatanna. I leant sideways, out of range of the webcam, to watch her smile. "Never thought I'd see the day when Dick Grayson apologizes."

"I'm not the same guy I was three years ago."

I rolled my eyes. These two were stealing lines from, like, every romantic drama ever made. I flicked his thigh. He tilted his head sideways never turning away from the camera. 'Focus Hotshot. Get the necklace. Fast.' I mouthed.

He smirked; the only sign that he understood – And didn't care. He was doing things his way.

Zatanna laughed. "You look like the same guy I met three years ago." Then she leant closer to the camera, and squinted, as if she needed glasses. "Except… maybe you're not."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Robin asked.

She shrugged. "You seem happier – lighter, somehow. I noticed it yesterday as well. Your auras…" She looked away, as if she'd seen something disappointing, "…glowing."

"I didn't know you could read auras," Robin muttered.

"It's a technique I learnt a few months back, but I usually honour people's privacy."

Robin raised a brow. "And I'm different, because?"

"Because you faked an apology." She levelled him with a glare. "And I didn't need any magical powers to figure that out."

Robin ran a hand over his face. "Yeah, Ok, you got me." He shrugged. "You let me down yesterday – I don't regret my behaviour."

She shook her head, confused. "Then why the hell would you…" She paused, her face twisting into one of disgust. "You want something, don't you?"

I sighed, resting my head in my hands. This is going downhill fast.

I watched as Robin struggled to find his words. He nodded swiftly, and looked away from the camera. "I need your glamour."

She lowered her head, clutching tightly onto her computer keyboard. "Tell. Andie. 'No'!"

Robin whirled around. He shook his head – too fast. "It's not for –"

"Yes it is." She snapped. "I'm not stupid. A fake apology? A glowing aura? Andies sitting right beside you." Zatanna ran a hand through her hair. "…she's watching as you make a fool out of me."

"No. That wasn't the plan." Robin leant closer to the camera. "We just want the necklace."

Zatanna looked up, face calm and collected. "I'm finding it hard to care. I've helped you enough." Her eyes were cold; hard. In the background, furniture began to fly across her room, smashing into pieces against the wall. "Don't involve me again, Richard." She reached forward to turn her computer off.

"Zatanna!" Robin called.

Her hand faltered and she looked up.

"Help me." His voice was dry, croaky. "You're my only hope."

"You mean I'm her only h – "

"No!" He yelled. "You're MY only hope!" His fingers dug into the couch cushions. "I won'tget any closure if she just… disappears. There won't be a funeral because she won't be dead!" He placed a hand to his forehead. "There'll just be this… this thing," he spat, "that'll use her body to ruin everything she stands for."

I bowed my head. He was right; The Cats Essence would take control. It would be just like the time in the factory with Psimon… only, permanent.

There was a long pause before Zatanna muttered a few words. Seconds later, a sapphire jewel appeared in Robins hand attached to a silver chain; the necklace; the glamour. I looked up, leaning forward to thank Zatanna. But her image began to blur, I caught a glimpse of burnt skin before Robin turned the laptop away from me.

"She's given us enough," he muttered, "let her keep her confidence."

I sat back down, not knowing what to do with my hands.

"Thanks Zee," he said, turning to the laptop. "I'm grateful."

"I know you are; your aura's bright pink."

"Is there anything you don't know?"

"I don't… I don't know what you're thinking." Her voice was soft, hesitant – a far cry from the angry Witch she was mere minutes ago.

Robin smirked, his mask creasing at the edges. "I'm thinking you're a life saver. I'm thinking," he shrugged, "maybe you're not a coward after all."

There was no reply.

Robin's smirk fell off and he stared at the screen with a heavy intensity. "Honestly? I'm thinking you're beautiful. Burns or not."

There was no reply. The only sound was a soft sniffling. Robin reached to turn off the webcam. "Take care Zee."

I tapped my fingers along the arm of the couch. Robin and I were sitting in silence. I looked at the clock. Five minutes have passed.

"What?" I finally snapped. "Why are you staring at me?"

"I'm waiting for you to explode," he said. His expression was calm, as if he'd already prepared his apology speech – and then decided he didn't give a crap.

My eyes skittered towards the laptop, Zatanna in mind. I remembered her question. I remembered Robins reply: 'I think you're beautiful'. On some level, I understood why he'd said that. "I'm not mad." I answered truthfully. "I kinda get it; you and Zee have a special bond." I took in a deep breath, "I can handle it."

"So… no screaming match? No evil glares? No jealous tears?"

I folded my arms. "When have I ever cried out of jealousy?"

He shrugged. "The days still young… I could always call Zatanna back."

"No need," I said, purposely missing the point, "we've got the necklace now." I snatched it away, and dangled it in his face. "You know, when it came down to it, you seemed pretty desperate to get this."

"No idea what you mean."

"You told Zatanna that you didn't want me to just… vanish –"

"Don't remember."

"You were yelling."

"Doesn't ring a bell."

"There were tears."

"No there wasn't," he snapped.

"I folded my arms, victorious. "So," I said, dragging out the moment, "you do remember."

"Yeah, well… it's not really a big deal." Jumping up, he stretched with his back to me. "I exaggerated a bit for Zatanna's benefit."

"You liar –"

"I think I'll check on Artemis. I'm heading to the infirmary." He left before I could say another word. Funny, how he went to the one place he knew I wouldn't follow.

I stared at the spot he'd been standing, a smile on my lips. It's good to know I'll be missed. Just in case.
