To Guest 1- I'll try to write more of this! I just really wish I hadn't done the whole fugitive thing now as it's left me with major writer's block :/ As for Lilly's, I've got a couple of ideas floating around, but nothing solid as of yet.
To Guest 2- Patience, grasshopper! I'm getting there! (Hopefully :P )
To everyone now, I'm really sorry for not updating this in FOREVER, but I just got stumped. My friends helped me get some ideas sorted, so hopefully I can write them up into something decent. Alvie's story will either be a hundred chapters or as close to a hundred and ten as I can.
Alvie didn't have to try and figure out who was in the car outside. They came to the front door, knocking smartly. Crystal and Alvie shared cautious glances, hearing their guest humming to themselves outside seconds later.
"Who is it?" Crystal hissed.
"I'm not sure." Alvie replied under his breath. "They just…" His brow furrowed in concentration. "They've got a connection to… to Poseidon."
"Demigod?"
"No. Legacy. But…" He shook his head. "Not a legacy of Poseidon… someone else. Minor god." Another cheery knock on the door.
"Mr. Jackson?" They called. Clearly a woman. "You're not in any trouble, don't worry! I just want to talk!"
"Do you know who that is?" Crystal demanded.
"No." He nervously flexed the fingers on his right hand before pulling the door open.
A young woman, roughly their age, beamed at him. She was of similar height to Alvie, sandy blonde hair plaited down her back with a large blue feather sticking out at the top. The sky blue of the decoration matched that of her eyes, twinkling happily in the light of the setting sun.
The most bizarre thing about her appearance was the pale blue Greek chiton she was wearing, as though she had just stepped out of Ancient Greek. She even wore sandals and golden bangles about her wrists.
"I'm Melanie Foxcut." She announced proudly. "May I come in?"
Melanie chatted away to them as though they were old friends. At first, she wittered on with the usual ice-breakers before going on about how she managed to find them- Alvie- and why Alvie could sense a link to Poseidon, no heritage.
"I'm a follower of Poseidon. It's a very elite group, but I don't think we have any descendants of Poseidon, unfortunately. It's such an honour to finally meet you-" Here, she grasped Alvie's hands, her eyes shining with such an admiration, it was like Alvie was some long lost sibling or king. "We've heard all about you and…" She looked at Crystal suspiciously. "Does she know what you can do?"
"She has a name." Crystal retorted bluntly. Something about Melanie didn't sit right with her- had Alvie picked up on that too?
"I know, I know, I'm sorry." Melanie looked apologetic, but her eyes still held that increasingly annoying merriment. "I'm just really excited to finally meet you!" She squealed, turning back to Alvie. "Your powers are like mine, just much stronger."
"Wh- what?" Alvie stammered. He looked absolutely bewildered and, therefore, adorable.
Instead of replying, Melanie turned and pointed at the dishes in the sink. The tap turned itself on and the washing up liquid bottle tipped up. Bubbles burst forth and the dishcloth danced around, cleaning dishes that stacked themselves in the drying rack.
"There." She smiled back at Alvie once all the dishes were cleaned. "Not as good as you, but I'm learning!"
"I… I'm… I'm sorry, but I don't… I don't understand…"
"Oh, it's a long story. I'll make tea and we'll all sit and talk about it." Crystal mentally slapped herself. Who was this woman to come barging into their home and impose herself on them?!
She made to contradict Melanie when Alvie grabbed her hand. Melanie didn't notice, filling the kettle.
Crystal glared at her boyfriend defiantly. His eyes glinted warningly. Not yet.
With tea and biscuits, Melanie told them all about Poseidon's followers. "My great-grandmother's Hecate, so I've got a few powers. No match to yours, obviously." She flattered, patting Alvie's hand. Crystal set her cup on the table with more force than necessary, splashing hot tea over the sides. Alvie waved his hand and the spillage returned to the cup.
Melanie tilted her head questioningly. "Is something the matter?"
No. Alvie's voice insisted in her mind. I'm still trying to figure stuff out.
"Just fine." Crystal spat through gritted teeth. Melanie didn't look at all convinced, so Crystal grudgingly changed the subject. "What do you want with Alvie? How did you find him?"
"Oh! Hecate kindly directed me here. She thought it would be a good idea for Alvie to mingle with his grandfather's loyal followers." Crystal and Alvie shared a looks. Gods didn't do something nice for no reason. "We know you just got here and everything though, so just wait until everything calms down. We'll pull a few strings and then you can come with us!"
"What makes you think we're going anywhere with you?" Crystal retorted harshly. Melanie's smile faltered a fraction and Alvie's eyes gleamed white.
Their guest's smile returned in an instant and she had no recollection of Crystal's outburst.
"We have a small island in the Caribbean. Mortals can't find it- almost like Calypso's island, except you can come and go as you please and there are more of us there."
"Why do you want us to come with you?"
"Oooh, I can't explain it all now, but you'll love it there! It's fantastic." She looked at her watch and gasped, her eyes widening. "I'm late! I must go, but here," She fashioned a card out of thin air. "Call me, OK? We've a lot to talk about."
"I bet we do." Crystal grumbled as Melanie thanked them for the hospitality and rushed out.
"You don't like her." Alvie commented once Melanie was gone.
"No I don't!" Crystal agreed furiously. "How could she just flounce in here like she owned the place?! And what the hell did she want?! She wasn't being very clear!"
"I wouldn't worry about her too much." He assured. "She's practically harmless."
"And you'd know that how?" She spat. He winced at her harsh tone, looking sheepish.
"There is something there, but it's not her." He mumbled. Crystal calmed herself slightly and took his hand.
"Sorry. I just… I don't trust her. Something about her makes me feel sick."
"We'll figure it out. We should… we should just be clever. Like you said." She sighed. He held his other hand out to her and she stepped into his embrace.
The thought of Melanie infuriated Crystal, but Alvie was so calm about this whole unannounced arrival and this sudden, very-stalker-ish fan, it was hard not to be soothed a fraction.
If he couldn't sense any trouble, things should be OK.
OK, this is it for now. I've got to go over things properly and hopefully I can get a proper set of chapters up. I just felt like updating this one, so here you go! :D
