Chapter 12
There comes a time when one finds something accidentally or purposely. If you're living with a detective and a journalist, it's bound to happen.
In Charlotte's case, it was accidental. She couldn't be sure whether Nick knew and forgot or left there remembering what to do with it. After she looked up the place, she couldn't decide on what to do.
"Nope I'm not going to bother. I remembered what happened the last time, I'm not doing it again," she said to herself.
She got up from the bed and brought the paper back downstairs. She stopped midway and leaned against the wall.
Charlotte closed her eyes for a second before opening them again. She thought long and hard before retreating back upstairs again.
Should she go to Nick, she knew damn well that he wasn't going to say anything to her. Not because he didn't trust her, but because she knew that he was going to go into overprotective boyfriend mode. She was doing fine despite the nightmare she suffered last night but she was heading in the right direction with her recovery.
There was something about holding on to this information that could help her out who was in the hit and run and why.
Charlotte could only open up the nightstand and took out her little book. She slipped the paper inside the book and put it back to close the drawer. She silently prayed that Nick wouldn't find it but she doubt that he would go through her drawers.
All she could do for now was decide where to go from here.
I just hope I don't regret my decision later on she thought to herself.
She put her laptop aside and laid down on the bed, maybe resting her eyes can be some help.
She didn't remember how long she was asleep, but when Charlotte woke up, it was already daylight. She sat up and someone must've put her comforter over her body. She saw that her laptop was placed on the nightstand.
"Hey you're awake," Nick's voice rang out.
"Um yeah I didn't hear you come in or see you for that matter," she said slowly getting out of bed.
"Yeah I came in around after eleven and you were out," he said.
"Huh how about that," she said.
Charlotte walked into the bathroom and started to remove her bandage on her shoulder. It wasn't as bad as it was the first time she saw it. She took care of it and got ready for the day.
"So find anything new?" she asked Nick downstairs.
"We're coming close to it," he replied.
"That's good," she said, pouring herself some coffee.
"How's your shoulder?"
"Getting better I can't wait to get the stitches out," she replied. "Can I ask you something?"
"I think you did," he said, inching his way closer to her.
"Oh you're too funny," she said sarcastically.
Nick wrapped his arms around her as she leaned against the counter. She was a little worried about what she was going to ask but she wanted to know what was up in order for her to figure out what's the next step into her plan that was slowly starting to form in her head.
"Do you guys know when you're planning on doing this catching the bad guy thing?" she asked.
"As soon as possible," he said.
Not the answer she was looking for, but it was close to it.
"That's good, maybe this will be over for good, well for now at least," she said.
"I hope so," Nick said.
"Yep me too," she said.
Oh only if he knew, she thought to herself.
The next few days past rather uneventfully. Josh flew back home to be with his family but managed to get Charlotte to come and visit the next time she has a vacation coming up and no more accidents for her god forbid. Her mother also left since she was due to go back to work.
Out of what was going on, none of the Sands family ever mentioned Charlotte and Josh's father. It's not like they did it on purpose but it was a forgotten topic that eventually need to be discussed.
It was Saturday afternoon, almost five hours before the supposed undercover cop thing was going to happen. Nick was downstairs gathering the final things needed for tonight. He was going to meet up with Monroe and Hank so they would head over to the abandoned warehouse so they would get their guy once and for all.
Meanwhile, Charlotte was in her closet, going through her clothes since she was in her pajamas still. She picked out a dark green long sleeved shirt with a grey sweater along with a pair of light blue jeans.
"Char?"
"In here," she called out.
She poked her head out of the closet and saw that it was Rosalee.
"Hi I didn't expect you until later," Charlotte said.
"Yeah well I figured might as well get started on what we needed to do," she said.
"Sure," she replied. "Nick doesn't know a thing, right?"
"Nope and are you sure you know what you're doing?" Rosalee asked.
"I hope so," Charlotte replied.
"I just don't want to hear the end of it from Nick, especially with Monroe going and all I still can't believe you're doing this behind Nick's back," she said.
"Yeah I mean I want to know but then again I can only imagine how it'll go down."
"Yep, so are you sure you got everything?"
"Yeah I'm good, just well you know; hope for the best right?" Charlotte said.
Charlotte waited a good ten minutes after Nick left for her to leave the house. She wanted to make a pit stop to the trailer to pick up something. She silently prayed that Nick and Monroe wouldn't be there. She had an excuse made up just in case she ran into them.
A breath was let out that she didn't know she held in as she approached the trailer. No other car was around except for hers. She got out and went towards the trailer. As soon as Charlotte got in the trailer, she headed towards the weapons cabinet and grabbed the crossbow that was hanging on the other side of the door.
Making sure that she had enough arrows, she locked up the trailer and headed towards the destination.
She pulled up to the site almost twenty minutes. Charlotte saw Nick's car along with a police car that was waiting behind his car. She silently prayed that he didn't spot her. When he didn't look up from his post, she quickly went down an alleyway. She walked down as fast as she can when she turned the corner and went in the back of the store since she saw the door open.
Closing the door as quietly as she can, she gripped on to the crossbow tightly as she quietly looked around.
"Are you sure this is going to work?"
"It has too. He would have no other choice."
"Crap," she said quietly.
Luckily, Nick, Monroe and Hank didn't hear her. She saw out of the corner of her eye a staircase. She walked over there quickly and climbed the stairs. When Charlotte got upstairs, she could see that it saw the floor plan of the store. She quietly laid the crossbow down and lied down on her stomach and waited.
She felt her phone vibrate in her jacket. After she waited a second, she reached in her pocket and saw a text message from Alex.
"Hey what are you up to?"
"Some investigating for an article."
"Cool beans, stuck here just waiting to catch our guy."
"How fun. We'll do something next week?"
"Sure, good luck with work."
Charlotte could only shake her head as she put her phone away. She saw that nothing really changed and all she could do was wait.
It wasn't until the door opened that the atmosphere changed. She peaked over the railing and saw a man that looked too familiar to her. He was wearing regular clothes but had that suspicious look. Something about him she was starting to feel that she saw him from somewhere.
Could it be the same guy that he visited in the hospital? She couldn't be sure. Charlotte couldn't possibly go down there and make a fool of herself. Not to mention that the police is there it would even be worse for both parties.
All she could do is wait and see what happens.
All she had to do was wait.
There wasn't no option unless something happens.
A/n: hi guys. So sorry for this late update. RL is crazy plus I'm sick so that is why this chapter is short.
The action will take place next chapter. I promise it'll be slightly longer. Plus I can't believe the winter finale is tomorrow! I seriously pray we don't have to wait long for it to come back.
Leave me some love! I thank you guys once again for your patience and support! It means so much to me.
