Disclaimer: I don't own Grimm, NBC does. I do own Charlotte and her family.
Chapter 13
A person could probably hear a pin drop since the place was so quiet. The man came in and looked around silently. Charlotte couldn't tell whether he was up to something but she could see that Monroe by the counter but couldn't see Nick and Hank.
She sighed quietly as she stretched out her body. She knew that it would only be a matter of time before anything can happen but for how long it'll take, only time would tell.
"Is there anything I can help with you with?" Monroe asked.
"Oh nothing in particular," the guy replied nervously.
Charlotte continued to stare down as the guy continued to look around. He started to move something in his jacket but she couldn't make out what it was. She also didn't see Nick or Hank in the store.
"This can't be good," she said quietly to herself.
"Okay just let me know if you change your mind," Monroe said.
She saw Monroe going to reach over for his phone which was lying by the register. Before he had any time to react, the customer ran over towards the counter, gun in hand.
"Put your hands up where I can see them!" he yelled at Monroe.
"Whoa okay," Monroe said, raising his hands. "I'm pretty sure you don't want to do this."
"Just shut your mouth and open up the damn drawer," he snapped, his shook his head and then his face changed into the Balam Nick and Monroe were discussing about.
Charlotte's eyes widen in shock. She stood up and with the crossbow in hand, ran downstairs. A realization had hit her as soon as the burglar changed. She remembered being scratched on her shoulder during the accident but couldn't remember what did it or who. Neither did Ali at the time since the accident happened so fast.
As soon as she got downstairs, she held the crossbow up in position and walked quietly and slowly towards the front of the store. She silently prayed that she wouldn't get caught or worst.
When she got close, Charlotte stood against the wall and peaked around the corner. She could see that Monroe was starting to get nervous.
Should she go out there? It would be a huge risk, yes. But at the same time this was Nick's friend and he and Hank weren't to be seen at the moment.
"Don't move a muscle," she said, stepping out of the shadow, shocking both the guy and Monroe.
"Charlotte are you nuts?!" Monroe said, starting to freak out.
"I should say the same to you," she replied.
The Balam turned and growled at Charlotte. He stared at her for a second before he switched his face back into human form.
"And I thought I got rid of you," he sneered at Charlotte.
"What the hell are you talking about?" she asked.
"You don't remember don't you?" he asked.
She remained still as he inched closer to her. Charlotte looked over and saw Monroe getting more anxious. Where in the hell is Nick and Hank?
"I don't know who you are but I suggest you better get out before any more damage is done," she said coldly.
All the man could do was chuckled darkly. "Well here's a little refresher. You should've had more injuries in that accident," he said.
Charlotte stood there in shock. Images of the car accident flashed in her mind. She remembered lying on the ground but what she failed to notice was the driver giving her a sneer look before he took off.
"T-that was you? But how? What did I ever do to you?" Charlotte asked.
"Isn't it obvious? You killed my girlfriend or was your Grimm boyfriend that did it? Now you'll die," he said, turning back into the Balam.
"Watch out!" Monroe cried out.
Charlotte panicked and shot an arrow out of the crossbow. It missed him slightly and she let an arrow go again before she dropped it. The balam growled and let out a huge roar. Monroe then shifted into the blutbad by the time she got out of the way. She knocked over a few boxes before the front door kicked open.
"POLICE DON'T MOVE!" Nick's voice cried out.
All Charlotte could do was grabbed the crossbow and ran out. She turned right and bee lined down the alleyway. She kept on running as she heard loud footsteps coming from behind. She came across the fence and she threw the weapon on the other side.
She turned and saw the Balam coming closer. With her only good hand, she clumsily climbed the wired fence. She felt herself slip a few times but Charlotte somehow made it up and jumped down. Grabbing the crossbow, she kept on running.
Charlotte had no idea where she was running, but she knew she had to figure out a plan eventually.
She hoped that Nick was okay and being careful at the same time.
With one last look around, she ran into the small woods that was located nearby.
"What the hell happened?" Hank asked.
"He just went bat crazy and bee lined the door," Nick replied. He crouched down to the ground and picked up the arrows that were lying on the ground. "I didn't know he brought weapons."
"He didn't. Those were from your crossbow which by the way did you had Charlotte come in to help?" Monroe asked.
"No why would I do something like that?" Nick replied incredulously.
"Oh um, well funny you should ask," Monroe said nervously.
"What happened?" Nick asked, raising his voice slightly.
"Guys I think we got a problem," Hank said. "Charlotte's been here."
"What?!"
"Yeah because for one thing her car is sitting out not far from here and two here's this," Hank said, handing Nick a piece of fabric. It was a piece of dark tan fabric that he found stuck on a loose nail on the back door.
"It's her jacket," Nick said. "Why would she be here? I don't get it."
"If you want my opinion, I think that guy has it out for her," Monroe said.
"What makes you think that?"
"For one thing, he wants revenge. You killed his girlfriend way back and he's back wanting revenge plus it turned out he was the one that caused Charlotte and Alex's car accident," he replied. "He also disappeared too."
"We need to find both of them and fast," Nick said, leaving the store with Hank and Monroe in tow.
She didn't know where she was going, but she kept running. She finally made it behind a huge fallen log and dropped to the ground. While she was catching her breath, Charlotte looked over her right wrist and the cast was still intact. She slightly moved her fingers and they didn't hurt as much.
Charlotte rested the crossbow by her and she didn't know what to do next. After her breathing calmed down, she looked over behind her and no one or nothing was behind her.
Tears started to flow down her cheeks as she reached for her phone. She unlocked it and with her luck there wasn't a signal.
"DAMNIT!" she cried out.
She shoved her phone in her pocket and slowly got up from her spot. Charlotte had no idea where she was or how to even get back to town. She picked up the crossbow and decided her only option was to head back.
"Come on Char, you can do this. You're a fighter. You've been through this already you can do it again," she said to herself.
The woods were too quiet to be exact. Only the sounds of crickets were chirping here and there. Charlotte held on to the crossbow as if she refused to let go while she was walking. She kept her guard up as she was walking through the woods.
She felt her phone vibrating and she immediately reached in her jacket pocket. She grabbed her phone and a sigh of relief when she saw it was Rosalee.
"Hello?" she answered.
"Oh thank god you're alive," she said.
"Nice to hear that, look have you heard from the guys or anything?" Charlotte asked.
"Monroe called us and Nick is a wreck what happened I thought things were going to plan?"
"Rosalee I don't know where to begin. Things went bad and now I'm running around in the woods because the guy is after me because Nick killed his girlfriend awhile back because they were mated or some weird shit like that," she replied.
"Hold on what?"
"I know and Nick is probably so mad at me," Charlotte said.
A twig snapped not far from where Charlotte was standing and she spun around when she saw a figure coming towards her. She froze, phone by her ear as she cradled it on her shoulder and crossbow in her hand.
"Rose I got to go," she said.
"Wait, are you okay? I'm calling Monroe…" she heard Rosalee say as she hung up.
She waited until she saw the figure coming closer that this time, she was prepared and she knew that Nick would be worried sick and pissed off at the same time that she was more prepared to fight even with a broken wrist. She prayed that things would be alright.
She prayed hard that she would make it out alive.
