A/N: Tell me what you think….
Sorting here we go thought Rus miserably to himself well at last Ayat would be with him.
The moment they arrived at Hogwards, they were separated…Rus had to go with the first years while his friends had to go with the rest. While the first years where trilled and excited and kept talking about the sorting and the different houses Rus sat silently next to Hagrid. Hagrid didn't try to make small talk with him knowing him for many years and seeing he wasn't up for it, Rus was very grateful about that knowing how friendly the Half-giant was. While he sat looking nervously at the castle he felt a hand on his shoulder and filched away by instinct, but the hand moved with him. When Hagrid felt him filch he didn't take offence knowing that it wasn't personal…It only made him boil with anger toward the Snape's.
When they entered the castle Hagrid told Rus he had to wait outside the great hall until he was called. He heard the song of the sorting hat and started to walk from one site to the other of the door lost deep in thought…Until he felt something sharp enter his left hand and looked down in shock Had Ayat just bitten him? Before he could panic the snake started to hiss.
"Don't worry Wizardling I didn't poisssion you, but you where panicking too much for my liking. I only did it to get your attention seeing that you have been ignoring my words for the last few minutes." Hissed the snake softly hearing this Rus relaxed, but he also felt bad for ignoring his familiar.
"Ooooh…Ok, sorry I didn't mean to ignore you." He said while his cheeks took a red color, it really hadn't been his intention to ignore the snake.
"Don't worry Wizardling, everything will be alright you will be just fine. I am sure your friends will make themselves responsible about that. But while we are waiting tell me what is bothering you?" Asked the snake softly concern evident in his way of hissing.
"Nothing!" He said a little too fast and due the look Ayat gave him the snake wasn't buying it. "well just everything I am nervous it's just that and I am thinking too much and that only makes it worse and so I am more nervous what only makes…." He started ranting and walking back and front again but was interrupted by Ayat.
"Shhh Wizardling there is nothing to fear here only if you fear dust because who knows how old that hat is?" Joked the snake wanting to lighten the mood his master was in, before asking. "Wizardling you are a gifted occlumence aren't you?"
"Uuuuhh…well I don't know if gifted but I can occlude my mind. Why do you ask?" Asked Rus curious as to why that would be important at the moment.
"Do so Wizardling and meditate you will see that all your worries will disappear." Explained Ayat fondly, Rus first looked at him unsure before answering.
"Ok." At this he closed his eyes and started to meditate. Ayat felt the change in his charge instantly and smiled to himself, proud about the fact that he could help.
Rus did as Ayat told him and felt all his worries disappear, this time school would be different. He had everything he didn't have the first time: friends, a parent that loved him no matter how…special said parent was, adults that cared about him and the best of all no worries about what his ex-fathers next experiment would be. He didn't know how long he was meditating but when he opened his eyes again without knowing why he did he saw Argus Flich looking at him and jumped.
"You Ok lad?" Asked Flich amused by his reaction.
"Yes….sir I just was elsewhere and was startled when I saw you sir." Said Rus still recovering from the scare while he thought I really don't want to find the man in a dark alley at night!
"Yes one could say that, now inside you go the headmaster has called for you." Said Argus pointing at the door waiting for him to enter, as soon as he did Argus closed the doors.
When he looked around the great hall he felt all eyes on his person and looked right in front of him. Not allowing himself to be intimidated by all those eyes on him. Looking in front of him he saw his Fathers eyes on him and gave him a small smile, which his father returned before waving to him to come closer. As he did he saw that his father himself wanted to sort him. When he reached his father, his father put a hand on his shoulder, he had to fight all his instincts to not to finch away, and turned him around toward the student body before speaking.
"Dear students I want to have the honor to present you Alexander R. Prince. He is new this year because he has just returned to the country after his parents dead and will end his schooling here at Hogwards." Taking one of his dramatic pauses for effect and to let his words sick inn, Rus understood where his love for drama came from. "He will be a fifth year and because he is new he will be sorted in one of our houses now before the sorting I want to alert you all that I hope you ALL treat him with respect and be considerate his summer has been hard enough as it has been. This said let's sort him!"
As his father sat him down and put the hat on his head he saw all the eyes on him before his thoughts where interrupted by a small voice.
"Well, well, well…what do we have hear? What are you doing back boy? Don't answer that I can see what happened. What a shame, tell me where do you want to be?" He heard the hat ask.
"Where do I want to be?" He asked back unsure and frowned.
"Yes boy where do you want to be? I can place you anywhere with your talents you have the mind of a true Ravenclaw, you are as hard working as Hufflepuff herself, you are as cunning as any snake and braver than a lion. But think about it where do you think you will be happy?" Asked the hat again with all the patience in the world, as if time didn't matter, at this Rus relaxed a little.
"Where I would be happy? Uhhmm I was Slyhterin last time but don't want to go back there." He said 100% sure that he didn't want to go back there.
"Ok, one house less." Said the hat amused, by his way of thinking.
"I don't think I would like to be a Hufflepuff not that there is something bad with them I mean they are nice, but I don't see myself there." He continued again being sure that he didn't belong there.
"Good only two houses to go, what are you boy a raven or a lion." Said the hat knowing fully well where the boy belonged but he needed Rus to realize it to.
"I don't know….I mean I love to learn things but most ravens are so close minded only thinking like books with legs and lions are a little too loud but I have friends there and my father is one?" He was unsure about which one of those houses to choose and prayed the hat knew.
"Fear not little one I know where to place you now…go with your friends little cub." He heard in his head while he heard the hat scream out loud."GRIFFINDOR!"
He saw his robes change color before jumping up giving his father the hat and walking toward his friends that where cheering along with the rest of the Griffindors. He missed the proud look in his father's eyes as he sat down between the twins, who sat in front of Hemione, Harry and Ron, a few seats away he saw the boy from the train Neville and at the other site of the table he saw Ginny. Before people could talk to him his father spoke again.
"Silent students please! Now that I have your attention again I have three more announces to make: first what the prophet said about professor Snape is right he had been a spy for the light and his position as spy had been in danger for some time already and in the summer he was summoned and never came back…now I want to ask for a minute of silence in his respect." As Albus said this the hall went so silent that one could hear the heartbeat of the person next to him and exactly a minute later the silence was replaced by an applause that started at the Slytherin table and was soon followed by the rest of the houses….
"Silence! Thank you I assure you all professor Snape was worth that and much more. Now we go to the second topic of tonight the person that will teach you potions from now on is professor Umbrige "pleasing he added." an applause."
As the headmaster said this a small toad/pig like woman dressed in pink stood up and waved, the applause she received was a very small and political one, seeing the look on the toad/pig's face Dupty headmistress McGonall apologized in the name of the students saying that they had just lost the potions master that most thought would teach their children.
"And third: as our DADA teacher we have professor Lupin once again!" Said Albus, Remus stood up and bowed as the students applauded more eagerly than with Umbrige but still not too eager. "With this entire thing said let the feasts begin." And at Albus words all students turned to the food that appeared at the tables minus the Griffindors who turned toward Rus…
