Maybe I'm Amazed (Paul McCartney & Wings), 3:52
"I… just… oh, Derek. This," she sighs. "Whatever this is, or may become, it's freaking scary, okay?"
He smirks at her, but his soft words lead her to believe an entirely different emotion lay beneath his skin. "And you think I'm not afraid? Geez, Case. I've faced down 300 pound giants on the ice, and this scares me so much more than that."
She smiles.
"But do you know what scares me more? The fact that… I really need you, Casey. I mean, we're in the middle of this, and I'm not sure I understand it."
Casey pulls back. "Are you paraphrasing Beatles songs to me again?"
"Nah, this is Paul McCartney."
She giggles, and settles down beside him on their couch. "This all happened so fast. I… I thought I hated you, like, just two years ago."
"Really? I never hated you."
She smiles widely. "I said I thought I hated you. I never could."
"When I met you, I was sure you could tell that Ralph wasn't me."
"I could."
"Really?"
"George liked to show off the pictures in his wallet," Casey admits.
Derek laughs, and plays with her hair. "Then why pretend?"
"I figured there was a reason."
"You were such a keener."
"It's not my fault Mom didn't bring a change of clothes," she protests.
"If you'd stopped playing with the retainer long enough, you'd have noticed that Ralph was totally hitting on you."
"Oh, I noticed." She shivers. "Poor Ralphie."
"I heard he finally dumped Amanda."
"Oh?"
"Yeah. He's going after the bartender at the club we usually perform at."
"Christa?"
Derek shrugs. "I guess."
Casey giggles. "Poor Ralph. Maybe he'll change her mind."
"You mean… oh, god. Ralph." He chuckles. "Figures."
"I could set him up with someone."
"Why would you do that? We wouldn't want to infect him with a keener disease."
"He was so hitting on me. Maybe he likes keeners."
Derek slides his lips along her throat. "Ralph caught on early."
"It took you a while," she agrees, a hand in his hair.
"Too long."
"Uh-huh."
He kisses her lips. "Maybe I'm amazed."
