Listen to What the Man Said (Paul McCartney & Wings), 3:58
Love is blind.
Since when?
That's what Derek Venturi wants to know. All the girls he had dated, he'd chosen with his eyes wide open. Kendra, Sandra, Sally, Emily. They'd all known what they were getting into. Sure, some thought they could change him. Cough, Sally, Emily, cough. He knew what he was doing; he didn't mean to break their hearts. But, it happened.
No, love isn't blind. It's seeing a person's faults and still loving them. Or loving them more.
Unfortunately, for this (former) skirt-chasing cad, the latter seemed more likely. This was Casey MacDonald he was talking about, after all.
Derek Venturi smiles to himself, as Casey runs around their apartment in her pajamas.
"Casey? We need to get going."
"No, no! I'm forgetting something. I know I forgot something!"
She glares at him, then gasps, and darts into her room before returning empty-handed.
"Casey."
"Derek."
"Case. Calm down. The only thing you're forgetting is to get dressed. That, and the kitchen sink."
She stares at him. "Was that a joke?"
"Yeah."
"That was bad, D. Even for you."
He rolls his eyes. "So says the twenty-year old wearing bunny slippers and her pajamas at noon."
She looks down, and blushes. "They're cats."
"Huh?"
"They're not bunnies. They are cats. Marti got them for me."
Derek laughs. "Okay. C'mon. Get dressed. I wouldn't want you to lose your mittens."
She glares at him, and sticks her tongue out before walking to her room and slamming the door shut.
He's holding his stomach, nearly rolling on the floor in laughter when she comes out. She gives him a glare, before bursting into laughter herself. "We're nuts, you know that?"
"Eh, I know you are."
"Der-ek! I hate you!"
"No. You don't."
"No," she repeats, blowing her hair out of her eyes. "I don't."
He grins. "Come on, Spacey. Race you to the car."
She shrieks, running after him as he jogs down the three flights of stairs.
"You," she heaves after beating him to the Prince, "let me win."
"Maybe."
Yeah, Derek was screwed. But, he doesn't mind. He's in love, and he says love is fine.
