Slow Way Home
Chapter 30
[Day 37 of 45]
Spock was tired of his father's behavior. Whenever his father was in the room with Jim he was rather condescending. It wasn't even logical, his behavior. He'd explained he married Spock's mother for love yet he scorned his son for doing the same.
He stood in front of his father who was once again trying to convince Spock to break his bond with Jim so he could marry a Vulcan woman. Attempt to procreate (as they had not yet informed his father of the twins) with a Vulcan. He stated the child would be three quarters Vulcan rather than one quarter. He said it would help further along the species.
"I will not leave Jim," he informed his father who turned to look at him.
"It is only logical for you to…" His father continued but Spock interrupted his father – finally having had enough.
"I will not abandon my wife. If you want blood purity then you abandon your bond with mother and take a young Vulcan bride," Spock told his father who glared. "You are still of an age where you could father a new child." There was silence at that for a long moment before he spoke again. "I love my wife. We have children that I have never met because of logic. I was waiting for my time to come again before I returned to her. It seemed logical at the time to cultivate a career before returning. But because of logic I have lost out on the informative years of our twins."
"Why was I not informed of the twins when you were," his father asked.
"Because of you disapprove of my T'Hy'La," Spock told his father. His father tensed because they were rare and Vulcans did not throw that word around. It was serious business. "The day I laid eyes on her I felt shan'hal'lak. I tried to fight it because loving her was not rational but I was unable to deny my feelings."
"You never informed me of these facts. Shan'hal'lak should not be denied because it has been known to lead to death or chemical depression when it is – especially in those younger than their twenties," Sarek informed Spock though he knew that as well.
It worried him with George and Joanna.
"Father, I could not converse with you if the subject matter was not as logic dictated and shan'hal'lak is not logical. I am drawn to her and I have felt unsettled for some time, though I was not fully aware of how deep it went until my bond with my wife was restored," Spock informed his father. There was another silent respite between them before his father spoke.
"Your children… are they boys or girls… and how Vulcan?" his father asked.
"One of each, and my daughter is more Human than Vulcan though her brother is her opposite," Spock informed his father. His father nodded. Though he doubted his father would listen to reason he'd given him something to think on.
