Slow Way Home
Chapter 31
[Day 38 of 45]
"We predict we will arrive back on earth two days before Christmas Eve," she informed the admiralty for the fifteenth time since they were able to contact them. Surprisingly their estimated date of arrival hadn't changed. The time had – it had been pushed back a little over thirteen hours – though the arrival was predicted to be on the same date.
"Then you are making good progress," one of the Admirals stated.
"That is not the reason we contacted you," another Admiral informed her. She frowned confused because they contacted her every other, to every third day wanting updates on their progress. They wanted to know if there had been any altercations, more injuries, etc.
"When you return to earth," a female Admiral with a soft lyrical voice said, "you will no longer be on Academic probation. Your actions, while outside the box were ingenious, creative, and succeeded in the mission. We are discussing even giving you a commendation for it."
Jim's mouth dropped because there was no way they would ever give a commendation for that. She broke the rules! How. What? She was so confused.
"Close your mouth, Lieutenant," Another Admiral said and she did
"We also would like to tell you that everyone who took place in this mission will automatically be a graduate from the Academy and ready for Active duty after a long break in which the ship will be repaired," the Admiral informed them. "They will be allowed to go home to your families until you are recalled to the Enterprise under the captain we assign. But before everyone leaves there will be a ceremony that will give the New Captain of the Enterprise the ship." She nodded understanding.
Pike would still be recovering and going through Rehab so he couldn't be the captain right away. She was just out of the academy so she wouldn't be captain. Maybe Spock would be.
She could handle serving under her husband.
"Yes sirs," she told the admiralty and they shut of the vid screen. She sighed before a smile lit her face. She could go to Iowa. She could see Richie, Aria, Kimberly-Ann, Jill and everyone else who she hadn't seen in what felt like forever.
Smiling she wondered if Spock would join her. She hoped so.
[Another Chapter down, 9 or 10 more to go for this installment. I would like to apologize for the long wait which I get the feeling I'm becoming notorious for. Between writers block, my studies, and my job I'm finding it hard to write unless I stay up 'till all hours of the night. While I wouldn't mind I work at a daycare that keeps me on my toes.
