Chapter Fifteen: Kurai: Part Two
"Your sister? Your sister is gone."
These words hit Blair like a freight train. Gone? Blair couldn't bring herself to accept that; she felt weak and was glad Cole and Zane still were holding her by the arms. "No," she mouthed and said so quietly, it wasn't audible. Stumbling a few steps back, Cole and Zane let go of her as Blair looked up at Kurai in defeat. His eyes were black, his face was pale, and what irritated her most was the smug grin that spread wide on his face.
One may think it funny that a manly sounding voice was coming forth from Lydia's body, but somehow it wasn't. The voice was very masculine, but it wasn't a human man's voice, just like Hikari's voice sounded feminine, but it wasn't s human woman's voice. Plus, Lydia no longer looked a whole lot like Lydia anymore.
The other ninja stood wide eyed and plastered to the floor; they didn't know what to do. They could attack but they could hurt Lydia if she was still there.
Kurai gave a short, evil laugh before he disappeared into his darkness. Blair quickly scrambled to her feet and the ninja dared not breath or make any sound. He reappeared behind the ninja and they all turned round to face him.
"I must say, I didn't think you cared about Lydia this much," Kurai said to all the ninja.
"She's part of our team," Jay said back.
"Oh really, you barely knew her. None of you, not even Blair, knew her as well as I did. I have always been with her and I thought her thoughts, felt was she felt, and knew what she knows. I bet that you don't even know her favourite colour."
"Of course I do, I'm her twin. Her favourite colour is purple," Blair said sharply.
Kurai transported nearer to Blair. "Wrong, it was teal. Want to try some more questions? I could do this a all day." Kurai then made a rather stiff looking couch appear out of his darkness like he did with the throne and slouched onto it.
"We are not in the mood for any of your games, Kurai," Cole said as he stepped in front of his team.
"You're not? What a pity. It looks like I will have to fight you instead."
The ninja drew their weapons and prepared to fight. "Try not to do too much damage, we still may have a chance at saving Lydia. Got it?" The others all responded with a "got it" and a nod of their heads.
Kurai was first to make a move. He had his knives still stuck in pillars from fighting with Blair earlier so he has to do his teleporting trick to get them back. Once he retrieved two, he headed straight towards the ninja. Kai was the first one to come towards Kurai. He would swing his sword around but Kurai would skillfully and gracefully dodge and block it each time. Zane threw one of his shurikens at him but he was able to flip over it.
Jay and Lloyd came running towards Kurai until they were blocked by a wall of solid darkness that he made in front of them. As quickly as they ran into it, the walk pushed them back with great force and disappeared, sending the two ninja flying back. Kai was still holding out his attack against Kurai and Cole came running next with his scythe in hand. Kurai disappeared, leaving Kai slashing the air with his sword, and reappeared behind Cole. Before Cole could turn around, Kurai kicked his back and nocked him to the ground, face first.
Kai raised his sword and started to go towards Kurai but Kurai grabbed the two knifes that were stuck in the wall next to him and threw that straight at Kai. Without time to react, Kai was pinned to a pillar by his sleeves.
As Blair was watching this all take place, she got sick of Kurai using Lydia's form to throw around her team. Making herself invisible, Blair ran towards Kurai who was now fighting with Zane to use her spinjitsu. When Blair was close enough, she began spin around and a glowing tornado of yellow began to glow around her. This sneak attack plan worked and sent Kurai flying across the floor. Looking up from where he lay, Kurai saw the ninja had reassembled themselves and gathered around him; each of them looked upset and had their weapons drawn and aimed. Blair stood in the centre and closest to Kurai with her bow drawn and pointed straight at him.
"Give up, Kurai, and let my sister free," Blair said with anger in her voice that the ninja never knew such a usually jovial person could say.
"Alright, but don't you want your oh so precious gem first?" Kurai said with a smirk and still lying on the ground.
Blair looked at her leader, Cole, who nodded his head in acquiescence. She then put her arrow back in her quiver and slung her bow across her back. The other ninja still had their weapons ready to go. As Blair reached out her right hand to accept the gem, Kurai reached in the inside of Lydia's skirt-like bottom to retrieve it but, instead of pulling out the precious gem, he pulled out the knife Lydia had gotten from the Temple of Darkness. Knowing of its great powers to destroy anything it makes contact with, Kurai quickly cut the palm of Blair's hand.
With the ninja's initial reaction to pull their stair off of Kurai and turn their attention to Blair, Kurai planned this as his golden opportunity to escape with the gem through the hole the ninja fell through. To reach it, he propelled himself up with a blast of darkness from his hands and feet.
"Blair! Are you all right?" the ninja exclaimed.
Blair did not reply because she held her hand up to look at. She knew her hand should be bleeding and her wound should be stinging but they weren't. As she was about to say "how strange", the pain hit her and sent her to the floor. Blackness with the texture of bark began to creep its way from the cut and out onto her hand. It felt as if her hand was both being burned and frozen solid instantaneously. She tried to hold it back but she could not hold back the cry of pain that escaped her mouth.
The ninja were clueless as what to do; everything has happen so quickly. Zane was the only one that knew the darkness would spread all throughout Blair's body until it consumed her and destroyed her. By now, nearly her whole hand was covered and Zane got an idea.
"Blair, use your light. Hold your hand on your wrist and make your light."
Without questioning it, Blair promptly obeyed what Zane said. His plan worked but her right hand was still black and painful. She could movie it, but not with great ease and she couldn't produce her light power with that hand. Holding her right hand in her left hand, she shined her light on it which eased her pain. Once everyone realized she was okay, they all let out a huge sigh of relief. The ninja knew Blair was strong and could handle it.
"Kurai still has that gem," Kai said, clenching his fists.
"We need to stop him before he turns it dark," said Zane.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Jay said with his usual enthusiasm.
Zane created an ice ramp to the top of the same hole Kurai escaped out of and the ninja all climbed out. When they reached the top, he was nowhere to be seen.
"Where did he go?" Lloyd asked.
"He must have went outside," Blair answered.
Still clutching her right hand in light, Blair led the way out of the temple. It was hard to see but the purple glow from the torches helped guide the way. As they went farther and farther down the hallway, it got easier and easier to see as the glow from the setting sun peaked in through the opening. The ninja were approaching the exit when Blair stopped dead in her tracks and held out her arms to stop the others as well.
On the fairly large platform outside stood Kurai in Lydia's sick body with the Taiyō no Diroppo in his hand. It had already begun to turn black in his clutch. This caused massive, dark storm clouds to roll in outside and cover the sun. In the distance, violet lighting struck and the thunder crashed.
Cole said, "We're not going to make it."
Hearing this, Blair got her bow and situated and arrow on it despite the pain in her hand. She aimed and released, sending the arrow straight at the gem. Without seeing it coming, Kuai still continued to hold the gem until it was knocked out of his hands by the yellow ninja's arrow. The gem slid across the ground and nearly fell off the mountain.
Kurai whipped his head around to see the ninja and yelled, "Fools! Look at what you have done!"
It was then a mad dash between the ninja and Kurai to the gem. The ninja were farther away so they used their spinjitsu to get closer. "Ninja-Go!" they all yelled but Blair who once more fell under the pain of her hand. Taking it away from her light and using it too much created the darkness to spread once more; it began to creep its way up her arm. She was, however, able to stop it right before it reached her elbow.
Cold, leading off the tornadoes of the ninja, was able to reach the gem before Kurai, which infuriated him. He came barreling towards Cole who then tossed the gem to Jay who was on the other side. Kurai abruptly turned around and began to go towards Jay who then threw it to Kai who was by the entryway.
"Looks like we're playing monkey in the middle and your the monkey, Kurai!" Jay said with a laugh.
If you thought Kurai couldn't get any madder, you were completely and utterly wrong. His eyes narrowed, his darkness around his fists grew darker and bigger, and his fists clenched so tight that they began to draw blood. You could hear a faint "uh-oh" from Jay as Kurai threw his darkness ball at Kai without any sort of warning, sending Kai crashing into the wall of the mountain. The other ninja and Blair all yelled out "Kai!" as he slammed into the wall and fell to the ground.
Despite the immense pain in her arm, Blair nearly ran out of the hall to help but stopped herself when she saw what took place next. To stop the other ninja, Kurai, with the flick of his wrist, created darkness to come out of the ground and fully entrap the other four ninja's bodies but their heads. He then went over to Kai's unconscious body to pick up the gem that was still held tight in his grip. As Kurai bent down to pick it up, Kai's eyes darted open and he kicked Kurai in the knees causing him to fall over. Kai ran over to free his brothers while he could but there wasn't enough time.
"Foolish ninja, you should not have tricked me!" Kurai yelled at Kai as he stood up.
Kai put the gem in his pocket and reading his sword. "Well you should never have trapped my friends."
Kurai blasted Kai's sword from his hand with darkness and the sword fell off the mountain. Kai gulped as Kurai towered above him. The heels helped but as he grew more and more powerful, Kurai also grew taller, stronger, and paler. He lifted a struggling Kai up and turned him upside down. Kai would have used his fire on him but he couldn't focus when all this was happening and he was upside down. The gem fell out of his pocket and Kurai caught it before it hit the ground. Getting what he wanted, Kurai dropped Kai and, before Kai could move, he was surrounded with darkness like the other ninja.
Forgetting about Blair, Kuai stood laughing, thinking he had one. Blair was clueless as what to do. Her arm had hurt like no other pain she had ever experienced and, even if she did go out, she would just be captured like the rest of her team. Blair felt defeated knowing she was the last hope of the ninja and really she was defeated until she remembered her dream.
"Hikari," she very quietly whispered to herself. Blair said it again but this time a bit louder, "Hikari. Hikari, I need your help."
Blair could feel the energy and power building up inside of her. Never before had she felt this powerful and capable. No matter what happened or what the result was, she had to take Kurai out of Lydia. Her arm no longer hurting or spreading, Blair ran out and knocked Kurai to the ground with a great blast of light.
Kurai looked up at Blair and said, "You!"
"I will give you one chance to leave this world and my sister!" Blair sail looking down with light around her hands.
"Never!" he snapped back as he propped himself up on his elbows.
Like Kurai had used his darkness to trap the ninja, Blair held him to the ground with her light. With her right hand, she placed it on his head and held her thumb on his forehead. With her other hand, Blair placed it Kurai's chest and said quietly, "I'm sorry, Lydia." She closed her eyes and bowed her head and furrowed her eyebrows in deep concentration. A glow of light was emitted from her hands and Kurai's eyes shut as the darkness lifted from Lydia's body and the gem she was holding. The ninja were amazed at what they saw; Blair, with the aid of Hikari, was removing Kurai from Lydia.
Once all the darkness was out of Lydia, it took the rough form of a human and Blair let go of Lydia and said in Hikari's voice overlaying her's, "Never return here again."
The darkness then shot up into the sky to never be seen again. The dark clouds slowly rolled away and opened up the starry night sky and bright full moon. The ninja were freed from their cocoons of darkness and went over to the twins. Blair got down on her knees and gently laid her sisters head on the ground, who was now back to her normal size, and took the gem and handed it back to Cole. Laying there, Lydia looked so peaceful and frail. Her long black hair was spread on the ground and her face looked to be at rest and peace. Everyone was holding their breath, hoping Lydia would wake up and return to them. What seemed like hours passed by and Lydia still lay there without the slightest movement other than the slow rising of her chest as she breathed. Tears rolled down Blair's cheeks as she dared not take her eyes from her sister.
The unbearable silence was broken by Zane, "Blair, she's not going to wake up; she's not going to make it."
Blair was unwilling to accept it; her sister had to get up, she had to get better. It was during this time that Blair actually realized how terrible Lydia's life was and she deserved a second chance. Lloyd kneeled down beside Blair and put his hand on her shoulder. "She's not going to make it, Blair."
Blair closed her eyes tight and opened them again as the tears still flowed down her cheeks. "She will make it."
Lloyd looked back at the other ninja as they all exchanged concerned glanced. They knew Blair wasn't going to accept this fact that she had to accept. This time Cole, her leader, tried. "Blair, you know you are lying to yourself which will just hurt worse."
Blair stood up and wiped the tears from her face. Facing the boys she said, "No, I'm not lying to myself. She will make it and I will make sure if that. Lydia needs a second chance at life and that is what I will give her."
The ninja were at first confused until Blair turned back to Lydia, whose breathing had become worse, and put her right hand on her head with the thumb on the forehead and her left hand on Lydia's chest-she was giving Lydia Hikari. Blair did not do this without giving her sister a soft kiss on her forehead first. She had just closed her eyes when Zane stepped forward and interrupted. "If you do this, you know that the probability of your survival is point zero two percent."
Blair looked up with a tear in her eye, "I know."
Looking back at Lydia, Blair once more closed her eyes and took in a large breath. Her hands began to glow like before and then the glowing got bigger and bigger and brighter and brighter. The ninja had to take a few steps back and shield their eyes. After about a minute of the glowing, it finally died down and came to an end. Blair began to fall over but the ninja ran up and caught her before she fell. They gently laid her down, each fighting back the tears. Jay, however, let one pass his guard.
"You're going to be alright, you have to," Cole pleaded.
Blair gave one more look at her brothers, smiled, and then closed her eyes. The boys looked at Zane who nodded his head side to side. No words needed to be said, they knew too well what that shake of the head meant-Blair had died.
Jay lost it, the tears were uncontrollably going down his face as he sobbed uncontrollably. Kai closed his eyes tight as he clenched his fists tight from both anger and trying his best not to cry. Lloyd looked at Blair as a tear fell from his cheek. Cole looked at the scenery, trying to retain his composure as the leader. While Zane, being a Nindroid, looked confusedly at the ground. They all had nearly forgotten about Lydia until Zane said, "She's waking!"
The ninja gathered around Lydia who moved a bit until her eyes slowly opened. They were greeted by lovely purple eyes and not Kurai's black ones. Lydia was very confused; she did not know what happened when Kurai took charge of her. One thing she did know was that she felt a lot different.
"What? Where? What happened?" Lydia was able to softly say.
"You made it," Kai said. That was all Lydia had to hear. She knew that meant Kurai was gone. Happiness came over her until, looking around, she did not see Blair. Lydia slowly sat up and held herself up with her hands. She looked over and saw Blair lying on the ground. With a gasp, she got to her wobbly feet as fast as she could and was at Blair's side. Lydia looked up at the ninja who were standing above her and each shook their head as Zane did. She fell over Blair's chest and grabbed the cloth of her ninja gi as she sobbed. Lydia noticed the still painted, but chipping, nails of Blair which made her feel worse. She knew her and Nya must have gone together otherwise Blair would not have gone. Going to get their nails painted was something Lydia always wanted to do as sisters but now never will she be able to.
Lydia would never have the chance to say she was sorry or how much she really did love her sister. All she knew know was that her sister was dead and all she could do was mourn. Knowing what it was like to have a sibling to care for, Kai put a hand on Lydia's shoulder and brought her into a group hug as she wept. Detaching herself from Kai, she said, "How did I survive?"
"Blair gave herself up for you. She gave you Hikari's power which saved you but not her."
"Even after all I did. I was so rotten to her yet she still sacrificed herself. Why would she do that?"
Kai smiled down at Lydia, "It's a simple answer. She did because she loved you."
Ahh, did I really just do that? Yes, I did. I'm the author and can do what I please. Mwahahaha. Did anyone see it coming? Can you believe I had been planning that this whole time? There will be only one more chapter in my story.
Thank you ZaneLoverFan88 for your review. It made my day. Also, thank you DarkRed101 for following and favouriting my story.
Because there is only one more chapter left, let's see if we can get the most reviews in one chapter for the chapter. That means more than two reviews. If you guys do that, then I will update my last chapter earlier than Friday! Please review and God bless!
