"I give her all my love, that's all I do. And if you saw my love, you'd love her too." And I Love Her, the Beatles. -Lizwin-
And I Love Her, 2:29
"C'mon, Lizard. Come to dinner. It's important," Ed had urged her last night.
Walking into a coffee shop at Queens that Casey had recommended, Lizzie stops short. There was Ed… canoodling with another girl! A girl she'd introduced to him! Mallory Blake.
"Lizzie!" Mallory stands, and waves to her.
And to think, Lizzie thinks silently, you'd thought you were finally getting back to being Edwin's friend again.
"Mallory, hi." Her smile aches from stretching across her face. "Edwin."
"Lizzie."
"I'm so glad that Edwin can at least introduce me to some of his family, even though we've met before!" The raven-haired law major slides into the booth beside Edwin, leaving Lizzie a seat to herself.
"I ordered a chicken salad croissant. It sounded so good, I told the waiter to bring one for each of us."
Edwin grimaces as Lizzie pastes on a sickly-sweet smile. "Oh, Mallory. I'm sorry, but I'm vegan."
Ed coughs.
"Fine. Vegetarian, most days. But—"
"Save us the lecture, Liz," he interrupts.
"I wasn't aware you were turning into Derek," Lizzie remarks scathingly.
"Nor you Casey."
"Ooh, fancy words."
Mallory clears her throat. "Um, let me talk to the waiter."
"Cut it out, Lizzie," Edwin hisses to his stepsister. "We're over. And, I love her. Don't mess this up for me."
"Fine."
She walks out of his life. This time, she insists, for good.
