Title: To Fix You
Pairing: AoKise
Summary: Depressed after being ditched in his wedding overseas, Kise wanders around to find a lost 4-year old boy and helps him find his father, Aomine Daiki; A widower who still couldn't push himself to move on. How will these two broken people find the way to fix themselves?
Edit: Hey! There were a few mistakes that I made so I updated the 2nd chapter where Kagami really appeared first. I edited that chapter to avoid confusion. You can read it if you want, it doesn't take much of a difference though. Also, thank you for FallenxLinkin for pointing that out. I'm sorry if it confused you.
Kise was silently clasping on his mobile phone as he rode a bus to the meeting place his ex-fiance told him. His heartbeats were getting louder; he was trembling and incredibly nervous. He knew what was going to happen when he agreed to talk to Kasamatsu. Kise knew that it would hurt him more than it hurt him when the man was still missing in action.
But he knew more than anyone that he should meet his ex-lover.
The bus arrived at a stop, getting the blonde's attention. Kise got up from his seat and got outside the bus. It was a 15-minute ride from his apartment. Fresh air brushed against Kise's skin as he walked towards the park. As he looked for one particular male, he noticed that there are a few people still at the park, most of them are kids with their parents.
Finally, he found the person he was looking for. The young raven was seated on one of the benches in the park, looking rather calm which didn't surprise Kise. He was always the calm one. Kise was the always one who panics and gets frantic easily. The blonde admired how the man manages to be calm every time. But this time, it scared him.
He slowly made his way towards the man and greeted him with a weak smile. Kasamatsu turned his head to Kise, offering him to sit beside him. The blonde bit his bottom lip, hesitating, but sat anyways.
"So… How are you?" Kasamatsu asked after a brief silence.
"I'm still a little shocked. Well, I guess no one could blame me. I was ditched in my wedding after all." The blonde replied harshly, his fists were shut. He cursed in his mind, how could he talk so bitter at a time like this?
"I see… Kise, I know that an apology won't make up to what I did but I still want you to know that I'm sorry. Believe me, I really am."
'Then why? Why did you leave? Why did you ditched our special day, leaving me who expectantly hope for a wonderful day?' Kise asked in his thoughts.
"But… I don't regret what I did."
A flinch.
"I loved you…." Loved. "But when I met her, something changed. She slowly entered her way in my mind, my heart, my soul, everything…"
Kise closed his eyes, forcing himself not to cry. No. He won't. He shouldn't. He doesn't want to look weak in front of someone, especially Kasamatsu, who had always been the one who knew his weaknesses.
"A girl who changed everything or a girl who ruined everything?" Kise bitterly muttered.
A glare pierced through him. "Don't talk about her that way, Kise. I was the one who chose to leave you. She doesn't know anything." Kasamatsu retorted. The blonde glanced at the raven. "So you lied to the both of us? Tell me, besides being a total asshole, what else are you?!" His fists were shaking as he stood up, glaring intently at his ex-lover.
"Do you even know what consequences we would have if we got married? At least with her, I can be proud!"
Kise eyes widened then his brows furrowed. "Proud? Is that what you want to be? Proud? Are you saying that all this time, you were ashamed of being with me?" Instead of getting a respond, Kasamatsu looked away from his gaze.
"Why didn't you tell me in the first place?! Why did you let me look stupid?! Do you enjoy seeing me foolishly throwing myself at you that you forgot that I have feelings?!" Tears started flowing from the side of Kise's honey eyes.
"I… I loved you so much that I gave up almost everything. I never really expected something in return but the least you could do is tell me! Tell me the truth! But no, instead of letting me taste reality, you chose to play with me and made me believe in something non-existent!" Kise was already shouting, gathering a few strange looks from the people at the park, but the blone paid no heed.
Kasamatsu stayed silent, still avoiding Kise's watery eyes. Before the blonde could continue, a voice called for Kasamatsu.
Kise's eyes followed behind the raven as he saw a young woman, possibly in his age, walking towards them. He hurriedly wiped his face to hide the tears flowing and sniffed. The woman snaked her right arm around Kasamatsu's left one. "You took so long so I thought I should fetch you." She said and glanced at Kise.
"Hey, are you okay? Your eyes are red. Did you cry?" The woman asked worriedly. She knew nothing about Kise. Somehow, he pitied the girl, since the truth was denied for her.
"I'm fine. Don't worry about me, miss."
"Are you Yuki's friend?" He nodded.
"Ahh~ I'm Yuki's girlfriend. It's nice to meet you."
"Me too… You should probably leave, you guys must be busy." The blonde said, wanting to leave as soon as possible.
"Umm, okay. Sorry to trouble you." Kise let out a weak smile.
"Goodbye, Kasamatsu-kun." The sudden formality made Kise inwardly flinch as he slowly turned his back from the couple. He walked as fast as he can so he could leave the place. His legs were tiring but he ignored the pain, he just wanted to get far away from that place, from everyone.
After a few moments of walking, Kise found himself exhausted and decided to rest a street court. His feet were numb and he was panting like crazy.
"Kise?" A voice called out. The blonde lifted his head up and saw a familiar tanned male staring at him.
"Aomine-san?"
"Yup. What are you doing here looking like a over-exercised dog?" The blunette asked. Kise's mind suddenly got filled with memories of earlier.
"Nothing. I was tired from playing basket." He lied. The man chuckled, "Yeah right. How could you when I don't see a ball near you? Don't lie. What happened?"
"It's none of your business." Kise looked away. He couldn't take Aomine's judging looks anymore. It makes him more embarrassed as he already was.
"Oh come on. We're friends, aren't we?"
"Since when?"
"Since you saved me from my misery when you brought back my son?" The blonde smiled as he stared at the tanned male's grin towards him. "Do you promise that you won't get disgusted if I tell you?"
A nod was he got as a response. He sighed, not really ready to tell Aomine everything.
"You see, I had a boyfriend."
"Oh now I understand, that guy I talked about before was your ex-boyfrie—wait, you're-?" Kise nodded, chuckling as he looked at Aomine's shocked face.
"And then? What happened?"
"Our relationship lasted for about 8 years. Finally, he proposed to me and of course I said yes. We flew to New York so that we could marry. We also planned to live there to avoid, umm you know…. But as the wedding day got nearer, he went farther and colder. I brushed it off, thinking it was nothing. And at the wedding day, the groom didn't arrive, leaving his "bride" clueless, and hurt."
"And just now, he met with me. He said awful things that made me ask myself, did I really fell in love with such an asshole? An insensitive bastard who thinks of only himself?"
"You know, we're in the same boat. Well, kind of." Aomine said.
"Eh?"
"You probably already know that my wife left me and Nikko." Kise nodded. The tanned male sighed. "I never expected that the very moment I hurt her was the moment she'll leave."
"If only I made her feel loved like I do every single day since we got together." Aomine hung his head low, remembering that one night when his wife's hand slowly let go of his. The painful memory of her closing her eyes with him knowing that she would never open them again makes him feel stabbed in the chest.
"I guess we are the same. We have something similar. We have regrets." Kise states then looks at Aomine who still had his head low.
"And those regrets are slowly breaking me. I wonder, what could possibly fix something so broken, it looks impossible for it to mend?"
Kise looked up, staring at the clear blue sky and noticed some autumn leaves dance in the wind. "I don't know.. But hopefully, there's a way."
Silence entered their conversation. Both men were loss of words. Suddenly, a beep broke the silent atmosphere.
"Ah. Kise, want to join me to fetch Nikko from school?" Aomine offered. The blonde smiled widely and nodded.
Nikko's school was a 5-minute walk from the street court. Apparently, Aomine was supposed to play basketball while waiting for Nikko's class to end but he was pulled into some kind of depressing conversation with Kise instead. The walk was quiet and it made Kise feel uncomfortable. He isn't like himself. The normal him would talk non-stop that it would annoy the people around no matter what kind of people they are.
The pair finally arrived at the kindergarten. Kise walked towards when he bumped into something—err, someone.
"I'm sorry, I didn't see you." The blonde apologizes to the man he bumped into. He had light blue hair that matched his light blue eyes. He was shorter than Kise so the blonde thought that was the reason he didn't see the stranger. It's weird though, since he would've sense the man's presence
"It's fine. Are you Aomine-kun's acquaintance? Or are you a relative of one of my students?" The man asked.
'So he's the teacher… How nice.' Kise thought to himself.
"He's a friend, Tetsu. Where's Nikko?" Aomine answered for the blonde. The shorter male looked behind him, telling the tanned male that his son was at the back. The blunette thanked him and dragged Kise to the school backyard. They saw the young tanned boy playing by the slide with his classmates, stopping as soon as he sighted two familiar men in the corner of the playground.
"Daddy! Kise-san!" Nikko rushed towards the two and hugged their legs.
"Yo, young man. How's school?"
"Hi, Nikko-kun."
"It was great! Kuroko-sensei taught us new things today! And I got a star! Hi, Kise-san~! How are you?" Kise chuckled at the child's hyper mood. He was practically jumping as he talked.
"That's great! You're so awesome!" Aomine put his arms under Nikko's pits, lifting him then spun him around. The boy laughed as he was effortlessly twirled around.
Kise smiled as he watched the pair laugh. He thought that Aomine would really feel miserable if he loses the treasure his wife left him. Nikko is a brave boy, but nevertheless, he was a child, a fragile child who needs someone to take care of him and nurture him to be the best.
"Let's go home, shall we?" Nikko nodded as he holds his father's hand. "Kise-san, would you go with us?" The boy asked.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I can't, you should go home and rest, okay?" He said, ruffling the blunette's hair.
"Is that so? Okay~ Thank you for coming, Kise-san! See you later~" The pair walked away from him, leaving Kise alone with the other kids left in the playground. Suddenly, a hand poked the blonde's shoulder, startling him.
"I'm sorry, did I scare you?" The kindergarten teacher, Tetsu as Kise recalls, bows as he apologizes.
"It's okay. I was just daydreaming."
"If you don't mind, can I ask you your name?"
"It's Kise. Kise Ryouta. And you are?"
"Kuroko Tetsuya."
Since he was bored and he didn't want to go home yet, Kise decided to have a chat with Kuroko. He learned that he was Aomine's school mate in middle school and he met with him in high school since they were both in their school's basketball club (Kuroko didn't look like he played basket though).
"Still having contact with friends is nice. I lost contact with some of my friends in high school and it's quite lonely. I only have communication with Midorimacchi right now. Kagamicchi is in Tokyo but I think he's too busy with his work. I couldn't blame him since owning a restaurant is really hard work."
"Kagamicchi?"
"Ah, I'm sorry if the name sounds weird. I add the '-cchi' to the people's names that are important to me. Kagami Taiga is one of them. He's a friend I met in high school. Why do you ask?"
"Apparently, he's my boyfriend."
"Oh rea-WHAT?! KAGAMICCHI HAS A BOYFRIEND?!" Kise's eyes widened. In his memories, Kagami was manly and the blonde was certain that the man was after girls so he is quite surprised that Kagami is gay.
"Yes, he has one, Kise-kun."
"That's really nice! I never knew Kagamicchi swooned that way so I was quite shocked to hear the truth." Kise chuckled nervously. He hoped that it wasn't a death glare Kuroko sent him earlier. He didn't want the shorter male to dislike him. Even though the man was quiet, the blonde enjoys his company.
"You probably want to wait a little bit more. Kagami-kun will fetch me in a few minutes."
"Really? Ahhh~ I haven't seen Kagamicchi in a long time! I'm really glad I met Kuroko-san. I'm a little lonely so I really want to talk to people. New or old friends, I don't care as long as I'm not alone."
"You hate being alone too? You sound like Aomine-kun."
"Is that so? Maybe, I am…"
Kuroko inwardly smiled to himself. He looked at the blonde, he reminded him of someone. He's like that person. The blunette thought that maybe it's time for Aomine to completely move on and look around him.
Maybe the one he's looking for is finally by his side.
A few minutes later, the two males heard a call from the outside. A tall young man with crimson red hair and a match of eyes in the same color stood by the kindergarten's pathway.
"Kuroko! Who is tha-oh god, KISE?!" The said man covered his mouth with his palm as he pointed the blonde with his other hand
"Hi, Kagami-kun."
"Kagamicchi~! Long time no see!"
"So, how did you end up here? Specifically in Kuroko's kindergarten.. Don't tell me you're planning to adopt a child? Or worse, kidnap one?!" Kagami slammed his palms against the café table, shocking the blonde.
Kuroko pinched his side, receiving a wince from the taller man. "You're exaggerating, Kagami-kun." He says.
"I came there with a friend."
"Who?"
"Ahhh… Aomine-san."
"Really? Ahomine? If he really were your friend, you should've called his name with the suffix '-cchi' by now."
"I just met him okay?"
"Oh come on, you called me 'Kagamicchi' right after the practice match we had in high school."
"Is that so, Kise-san?" The blonde felt something pierce through his soul, oh it's Kuroko's glare. Kise thought that it would be better if he doesn't get all touchy-feely with the man's boyfriend too much.
"Why are we talking about nicknames? You're just changing the topic, Kagamicchi! When did you have a boyfriend?! You never told me you had one!" Kise pouted. Kagami should at least inform him about his relationships, they are friends after all. The man was even one of the first people who knew about Kise and Kasamatsu's relationship but Kagami hid his boyfriend from him!
"I introduced Kuroko to you once, you just don't remember him, since you're all over that Kasamatsu."
Kise flinched at the sound of the aforementioned man's name. "Uhh.. Is that so? Ahahahaha! How rude of me!" He chuckled nervously, wishing that Kagami didn't notice his actions.
"Ah, I heard you two got married?"
Kise stayed silent. "Umm…"
"Congratulations, Kise." Kagami grinned. The blonde's eyes welled up with tears.
"Kagami-kun, he's crying." Kuroko stated and pointed at the sobbing Kise across their seats. Kagami's eyes widened and held Kise's shoulder, asking him what's wrong.
"I… I didn't get married."
"WHAT?!"
After telling the story once again, Kise was able to stop his tears from falling. Kagami had his eyes widened while Kuroko kept on sipping his vanilla milkshake.
"BASTARD! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH HIM?!"
A jab on his stomach.
"AH! KUROKO YOU BASTARD—"
"You're noisy, Kagami-kun. You're disturbing the other customers."
Kise sighed as he shook his head. To be honest, he still doesn't understand why this was happening to him. What have he done to deserve this kind of misery? He did everything but his efforts were still useless. It just didn't make sense.
"I just don't know what to do anymore. I can't go to my family and tell them that the wedding was cancelled. Only you, Midorimacchi, Kuroko-san and Aomine-san knows. I'm so ashamed of myself. I can't even face my own family because of my stupidity!"
"You know, Kise-san," Kuroko spoke, "Moping wouldn't do any good to you, you know. You'll only make things worse. Not that I'm in the position to tell you this, but wouldn't it be better if you help yourself move on rather than drown yourself in misery? It only makes you more stupid than you are now."
"That's quite harsh, Kuroko."
"Truth hurts, Kagami-kun. Truth hurts."
Kagami turned to Kise. "I think you should rest, Kise. You look horrible and exhausted."
Kise chuckled. "It's fine. I'm not a model anymore." The taller man scoffed, "Even so! Humans shouldn't look like zombies! Go home and rest!"
The blonde smiled. "Thanks for the concern." He said and stood up from his seat and exited the café. Kise glanced at his wristwatch to find that it was already past 12. Still, instead of going home, he walked to a certain place he used to go: his modeling agency.
As Kise walked through the lobby, the woman at the counter had her eyes widened as she watched the blonde walk towards her. "Hey, Harucchi! Do you know where Sakuracchi is?" The woman's eyes lit up at the mention of Kise's former manager. "Ummm.. Yes, she's currently in her office. Mind if I ask why you're looking for her, Kise-kun?"
"I want to model again."
"Oh I see-wait, what?! Model? I thought you'd never model again!" Kise's sweat dropped at the mention of his promise months ago. He did say that he wouldn't model again because he's going to marry Kasamatsu. But now, he just wanted to distract himself.
"Well, I changed my mind. Don't you want me to model again?" Kise asked. The woman shook her head, denying that she doesn't want the blonde to model again. Let's face it: Kise was born to model, and nothing will stop him to model ever again.
After talking to Haru, Kise rode the elevator to the floor of his former manager's office. Some of the staff even greeted him as he marched his way to the office. Kise really missed the feeling of his agency. It's only been months ever since he quitted modeling, but he felt really lonely.
He knocked on the office's door three times and opened it. A swivel chair was turned away from him but he heard a woman talking on the phone. Kise grinned and cleared his throat.
"Hey, Sakuracchi."
"Don't disturb me, I'm busy." Kise chuckled and called her once more. The swivel chair slowly turned to face him and also turning his former manager's face from an annoyed one to a shocked one.
"KISE?!"
Kise grinned wide and said, "I'm back!"
Okay, I'm really sorry if updates take long. I'm really busy with school these days. But just a few more weeks and vacation is coming! I can't promise I could update faster though. Updating is tough. XD
And so, this is a rather random chapter. I just typed things came into my mind. So yeah, it's a little random. No biggie, unless you refer Kise modeling again a surprise. I hope you like this chapter!
And thanks to all who followed and favorite this fanfic!
