"Why are we even here?" Tinker Tomlin hisses at his wife.
"It's your high school reunion. And, it's revenge for you making me go to mine last month."
He pushes the door open to the gymnasium at Thompson High.
A smiling Emily Davis greets him. "Hey, Tinker. I heard you got married. Hi," she turns to his wife. "I'm Emily Davis-Schlepper."
"I've read about you in a couple magazines," she admits. "Angie Tomlin."
"My husband is over that way," the African-Canadian smiles. A man trips over the edge of the lighting equipment. "Never mind. That's him. Sheldon," she calls, "come meet Tinker's wife."
Emily's cell phone rings, and she groans. "I'm sorry, it's Casey."
Tinker smiles. "Go ahead. I take it she hasn't changed."
"Not a bit," Sheldon mutters, tongue in cheek as his wife glares at him.
"No, everyone's here. Casey, nobody is going to care. C'mon. Tinker is here, with his wife. Nobody's going to think anything less of you and D— okay, I won't say his name."
The big doors on the east side of the gym open again, and Casey enters, on the arm of Derek Venturi.
"Surprise," he announces, grabbing her arm and dipping her down to the floor before pressing a kiss to her lips.
Silence greets them, until the room fills with applause, and more than a few finally's.
