Ever have a bad day? Not like the whole I forgot to study for a test or left my briefcase at home the day I had a major presentation due at work either. More like your abusive super villain father wants you to jet off to Japan to find your sister who just so happened to have chosen the vocation of assassination for a day job. Now imagine you get dragged to the Penguin's club to pick up your forged passports and a few other black market supplies. When all hell breaks lose because a red hooded vigilante decides to show up at the same time as you. So now you're caught in the middle of a shootout between the Penguin's henchmen and the trigger happy Red Hood. All the while with your super villain father barking orders at you.
Oh how I just love these little family outings.
12 hours earlier:
"The Bob Kane's Memorial Bridge is one of the most important landmarks in Gotham. He was one of the founders of the city. A real important guy back in the day. You could even go so far as to say because of Bob Kane's work he basically laid the ground work for the creation of Batman.", Artemis thought as she walked.
Artemis was trying to preoccupy her mind with just about anything and everything other then the fact that she just left Kaldur behind. How she just loved the way he looked with a milk mustache when she caught him drinking directly from the carton. Or how he really didn't like to space out in front of the television because he didn't understand surface humor. Or how he always got so flustered whenever she would jump his bones in the Watchtower causing them to have to sneak off somewhere private so they could fuck like little horny bunnies.
"Nope I'm not going to think about that!" she said aloud while shaking the thought from her head.
That's the last thing she needed right now because thinking about the tall, dark, and sexy prince waiting for her back home could really throw off her focus.
"Damn it", she said again as that last thought entered her head.
She could only hope that Kaldur was having a better time coping with her absence then she was dealing with his.
The Watchtower:Training Room
Kaldur landed another heavy right on the masked intruder. He could feel the cold steel of the robot under the hologram as he brought his body spinning into it with a reversed flying elbow. After that a sweeping kick tipped the cold steel and heavy pile of circuits over and onto the ground. Kaldur was then atop of the thing in a fraction of a second with his fist and elbows raining down on it like he was a mixed martial arts champion.
"Computer run program again."
The next hapless automaton came forward awaiting its inevitable fate. Kaldur had learned when his best friend died that the best prescription for pain sometimes has to be more pain. He remembered how happy Roy was when he received the news that he was going to be a father. He could still see the joy in Roy's face and the fact he wasn't here with him pissed him off. With a rage rarely seen in him Kaldur slammed the robot into the ground then he once again found himself on the floor as he locked it into an armbar that snapped the robots joints.
"Maybe I really am my father's son…" Kaldur considered before giving the order to continue, "Computer run the program again!"
This was the side of him that made him afraid. The side of him he wanted to give into at any and every turn. He lost his best friend and now he may very well be on the cusp of losing Artemis as well. It infuriated him that he always seemed to lose those he loved the most. That's the truth about ships with no anchor… they always seem to find themselves in troubled waters.
"Computer run program again!"
Bob Kane's Memorial Bridge
Lawrence Crock was not a good man but if you were to judge him on a sliding scale he wasn't the worst. Still a cruel and heartless bastard by any standard when you cut to the heart of it. Yet there was a method to his madness. In a day and age where almost any madman with a mask and fetish could become a super villain he made a decision… one that he knew would one day come back to haunt him but, if he had learned anything in this life of his that he had lead so far was that working with people like Slade Wilson, Count Vertigo, and Killer Frost was there was one basic truth in the world. The strong always fed on the weak… always and without exception. Therefore he was going to make sure that his daughters grew up to become the eaters of the world and not the eaten. So when the time came they would know how to survive in this crazy ass world they inhabitant. The only thing he forgot was the fact that a dog left in the wild to long will always revert back to their nature. Doomed to become nothing more then a basic savage creature with only the knowledge and will to kill. That's the territory where Jade was now. Nothing more then a savage wolf with razor sharp teeth that loved the taste of blood.
"Hey dad."
Lawrence turned around to see his daughter. "I'm surprised you called me that.", he said with a smirk.
"Well that's what the D.N.A. test says at least."
"Always was a smart ass."
"I would love to have a debate with you about that but, I just want find Jade and get back to my regular life."
"Does that have anything to do with the Atlantean waiting for you back at home?"
"How do you know about Kaldur!"
"I have my resources… baby girl.", he stated teasingly.
"You even think of messing with Kaldur I'll put you in the fucking ground!"
"Damn baby girl… you must really like that one."
"Like I said I won't a give a second thought to shoving a RPG up your ass if you touch him."
"If you don't remind me of your mother I would pay for it."
"You're pushing all the wrong buttons!"
"Come on baby girl… we have to make a few stops on the way to the airport."
"Like?"
"The Penguin has a package for me."
The Watchtower:
Kaldur was still at the Watchtower. To tell the truth home didn't seem like home knowing that Artemis wasn't going to be there. He passed the Ready Room when a memory of a horny and half nude Artemis riding him to a messy climax popped into his head. He smiled to himself as he remembered the two of them nearly getting caught by John Stewart and Shayera Hol (a.k.a.) Hawkgirl. He actually laughed out loud at the fact that she a got an extra thrill out of nearly getting caught.
"Damn she hadn't even been gone for twenty-four hours yet and if felt like weeks if not months.", he thought. "Back to the training room I guess.", he finished.
The Iceberg Lounge:
Artemis could feel her stomach turn when she saw the drug lab that the Penguin had running out the back of his so called club.
"Just keep your head down baby girl."
"I can't believe you would do business with a sick son of a bitch like Cobbblepot."
"A necessary evil."
"That's bullshit a you know it."
"Just keep on walking baby girl!"
Inside he was proud of his little girl. She knew evil when she saw it and he wanted to sink her teeth into and draw blood just like good little wolf. Cobblepot was sitting at his desk hold a brown folder in one hand and a Cuban cigar in the other with a cloud of smoke hovering over his head.
"Lawrence by boy… I got to say for what you paid you got the best damn rush job this side of the pond."
"Good. Is that all Cobblepot?"
Just as the greasy Britain was about to say something Lawrence knew he would rather not hear his nose perked up as a vague odor cut through the stink of Cobblepot's cigar. Burning gunpowder!
"Artemis duck!"
The explosion ripped through the backdoors of the club right before a burst of gunfire followed. After the smoke cleared the three of them looked out of the Cobblepot's perch only to see a man standing in full body amour and wielding a heavily modified AR-15. The only thing that stood out about the gunman was his Red Hood that made Lawrence swear as soon as he saw it.
"Shit!"
"You bloody traitor!"
"I didn't bring that red masked manic here!", Lawrence screamed at Cobblepot. "We have to split up and take different exits…"
"So we make smaller targets.", Artemis finished for him. "I'm not a dumbass", she added under her breath.
Lawrence took the folder and tossed to Artemis. "Take the side exit."
"What!"
"Just move it!"
Cobblepot's men had already started to return fire by the time she was down stairs to the main floor. Her heart rate spiked when she had to pass a box with an enormous yellow label which said Caution: Handle with Care Explosive Material as bullets whizzed pass her. She hit door label Fire Exit just as another burst of gunfire hit the door behind her. The only thing protecting her was the doors heavy metal frame. It was only after a few more minutes of gunfire did her father come out crashing out the a second story window.
"What the hell happen in there!"
"Just fucking run."
It was two blocks before Lawrence elected to steal the nearest car. Artemis wasn't thrilled about the decision but seeing the Penguin's place going up in flames a few blocks behind them made her feel a little better about the choice he made.
"I can't believe we made it outta of there that fast!"
"The bastard was using kids baby girl it wasn't like he was a boy scout or old lady that needed protecting."
As they drove to the airport Artemis wished she could at the very least text Kaldur. Life and death situations tend to make you want to reach out to the ones you love the most. She started to hate the choice she made and she wasn't even out of Gotham yet.
Watchtower:Training Room
Batman entered the training room to find Kaldur running drills again.
"Computer end program."
"Yes sir?"
"I have noticed that your time in the simulator has doubled in the last day and a half. I suspect if you have that much energy then you won't mind accompanying me on a mission."
"No sir. I just need the prep information and I can be wheels up in ten."
"How is your Japanese?", Batman asked.
