Not much going on here, but I gave a set up for the next two to three chapters. I've noticed that I hardly put a lot in terms of the Halo verse wich was supposed to mostly happen in the end, but I tried adding something in this chapter with the soldiers and pilot of the last chapter (see if you could spot the references...of two of them anyway). Lastly, BY GOD I TRIED! I really, really, tried to add in Zero and Salvador, and I could at any time, but I just can't give these character's personalities justice! No matter how I wrote it, it just wouldn't work in my head! I'm really sorry to all of you who request that I add these characters.
"Hey, can I drive?" Gaige asked the pilot as she flew them towards Sanctuary.
"Negative." She replied, "Unless you get permission from Master Chief or Capt. Lasky."
"I'll be right back, and you'll let me get in that seat!" Gaige replied as she quickly went to sit next to John.
"That'll be the day." The pilot snorted.
"How you holding out Mordecai?" Axton asked as he placed a hand on Mordecai's shoulder.
"I…I'd rather not talk right now." Mordecai replied.
"Sir, how did you get clearance to come here?" John asked.
"I didn't, we just did the same as you did…minus the spontaneous error that caused you to get these coordinates." Lasky replied, "The message I sent you had to be launched here manually because the scientists wanted to make sure there wasn't a virus in the system."
"Hey, Chief, can I drive this thing?" Gaige asked.
"Don't let her, she'll send us into the ground!" Axton laughed. Gaige was about to retort when something above Axton caught her eye, the UNSC sniper rifle. She quickly jumped up and grabbed it as one of the soldiers reached for it.
"DIBS!" she called out.
"Hey! That's not a toy!" the soldier shouted.
"What do I look like, 12? I know it's not a toy!" Gaige retorted.
"Its ok soldier." Chief interrupted, "just make a trade Gaige, rifle for rifle." Gaige quickly pulled out a screwdriver and removed her rifle's bayonet and attached it to the UNSC rifle.
"Here you go~!" she sang happily while the soldier grumbled about how she took the best part of the weapon.
"Aww, how nice of you to share your rifle, Lopez." A female soldier taunted.
"Shut it, Parker!" Lopez snapped.
"This is Lambda-110 to Sanctuary, requesting permission to land." The pilot called into the radio.
"Uhh…is that you guys?" Roland asked through the Echo.
"Affirmative, Roland." Axton replied.
"…ok…Lambda-110 you can…land." Roland replied still confused, "If you can find somewhere to land…."
"Lambda…not a name I've ever heard." Gaige said.
"It's a code name." Axton explained, "Unique to every soldier so as to avoid confusion."
"Actually…oddly enough, her name is Lambda." Lasky laughed.
"Sir, I can't find a stable place to land…wait, I think I've got something." Lambda reported, "Johnson, I need you to be my eyes in the back while I try to land near that garage."
"Johnson?" John asked.
"Private Johnson, sir." One of the soldiers introduced himself as the doors opened; he looked outside and gave Lambda direction while she tried to land.
"He was the one who ran the last inspection on your Pelican before the accident," Lasky explained, "felt like it was his fault so he wanted to be part of the rescue."
"Hold it Lambda!" Johnson called out, but the ship still collided with the garage and brought down part of the corner.
"WHOA! ROLAND, WE'RE BEEIN' INVADED!" Scooter shouted.
"It's just us Scooter." Maya called out as they got off the ship.
"Oh…WHOA, why ya'll gotta come destroyin' my garage?" Scooter cried out.
"It, was, an, accident!" Gaige shouted.
"No, it was my fault." Lambda said as she came out of the ship with AR in hand, "Sorry about that."
"I'm…I'm going to be at Moxxi's if you need me." Mordecai said as he began to walk away before Axton stopped him.
"Hey, we still need you there when we brief Roland on what's happened." He explained, "Come on, we need you to pull yourself together for a little longer."
"…alright, I'll see you guys there." Mordecai replied and left to the HQ building.
"Something's been bothering me." Axton said as he looked over at Lambda, "Your soldiers are all in uniform…except her."
"…but I am in uniform." Lambda replied as they all began to walk to the HQ building. John wanted to ask the same thing. Lambda was indeed in the standard UNSC soldier uniform like the others, minus the helmet, but she was also wearing a visor that seemed to have come out of her imagination, her hair reached just above her knees and was braided together.
"Lambda here was a scientist and requested to come along. Fortunately she had some experience with our weapons and Pelicans," Lasky explained before Lambda stopped, causing the others to do the same, "but the reason she's here is…"
"Chief…I wanted to ask privately…but are you really the only one who got out of that Pelican alive?" she asked without turning around.
"Yes." John replied.
"…my brother was on there with you, you know." She explained, "He told me how he was going to participate in an experiment that had you come along." Johnson was starting to feel more and more like shit, and Axton placed a hand on Lambda's shoulder sympathetically before taking the lead.
"Alright," Roland called out as everyone gathered around a table map at the HQ building," just to brief our newcomers, an AI named Angel had helped Axton, Chief, Maya, and Gaige arrive here in Sanctuary, unfortunately it was a trap and she corrupted our defenses, so now we have a flying city. Angel said she never wanted to do this and is now helping us steal the Vault Key from Handsome Jack. We've already got the Hyperion upgrade for Claptrap, and now we just need to get a voice module from Opportunity and break into the Bunker located in the Highlands."
"If we're going to attack a location that you said is heavily guarded with some of the best weapons this guy can get, then we need the back up of the Infinity." Lasky said, "I gave direct orders that if we don't return within 24 hours, they should come to find us."
"In the mean time, we could get the Slabs to help us out. Their leader, the Slab King owes me a favor." Roland added.
"Very well, it's highly doubtful that taking the Vault Key will be the end of this, so we'll need to do what we can while the Infinity gets here." John explained, "We'll split into three teams, Alpha Team; Capt. Lasky, Roland, Mordecai, and Lilith will remain here until the infinity arrives. Bravo Team; Lambda, Lopez, Johnson, and Parker will head over to obtain the voice module. Charlie Team, consisting of myself, Gaige, Maya, and Axton will head to the Highlands to get the Slab's help before going into the Bunker."
"Sounds like a plan." Mordecai replied as he grabbed a half empty bottle of rum.
"Alright, any questions?" Roland asked, nobody said anything, "Alright then, let's move out."
