It had been over a month since their little trip to the future, and things were a little better on some fronts. The girls never complained about how much demon hunts Chris sent them on, and even looked for leads on their own. He hadn't heard a peep out of any of them about their personal lives, or how they want to lead as normal a life as possible. He had started calling them 'Aunt' a couple of weeks back, but refused to tell them anything about the future that wasn't related to saving Wyatt. 'Future consequences' he always said, and it was starting to get on their nerves.
He was still avoiding Prue like she was the plague, and it was eating her up on the inside, he barely even looked her in the eye. He still refused to explain why he was avoiding her, or who his father was for the matter. Anything that wasn't related to Wyatt or his turning was off limits to talk about.
Phoebe's relationship with Jason was steadily moving forward and she was still trying to think of a way to tell him 'the big secret'; and Piper was still avoiding talking about what she saw in the future. Even Prue refused to tell her sisters what they saw in the future, and they all knew that Chris was a dead end.
The only question that he had answered truthfully, was how the Phoenix, whose name turned out to be Bianca, knew Andie. He told them that he and Andie had built up a resistance against Wyatt and his demons, and that Andie was notorious in her hunting and that apparently Wyatt had been trying to capture her, and Bianca was one of the people who tried repeatedly. Prue's face had paled when she heard how Wyatt was out for her baby's head, but Chris assured her that she was more than capable of holding her own, and that he wouldn't have come back if he thought she couldn't handle it. When they asked why he was the one to come back and not Andie, he said that Andie was closer to Wyatt in age, and had grew up with him so she knew him better than anybody else, that they had been close before Wyatt turned, and so it made more sense to leave her behind and send him back. The fact that his family wouldn't recognize him was apparently an added bonus, since he knew they would freak out if they knew who he was and would not let him do some of the things he did. The last part was now true though, all five of them fought him tooth and nail about some of the ideas that he had and tried to talk him out of it, or suggested that they do it themselves. But he told them that he can't risk anything happening to any of them, otherwise it could mess up the future even more and that he was the only expandable one. Of course Prue nearly bit his head off at the expandable remark, but he reminded her that he wasn't even born yet, and that if he gets hurt, not much will change about the future, and that whatever gets messed up now, they can still fix it with baby him.
"I need to know who to make baby you with in the first place" Prue had snapped incredulously, and after Chris gagged at the thought, he changed the subject and agreed to take one of his aunts with him for protection. But he still refused to even acknowledge her existence, let alone call her 'mom' or anything for that matter.
She was sitting in a chair with the Book of Shadows in her lap, as she surfed through the book, and scribbled on a notepad. She was so focused on what she was doing that she didn't hear the soft shuffling of feet, nor did she hear her name being called. She jerked slightly in her place, when a hand was placed on her shoulder. She looked up and if it wasn't for the lighter shade of Chris's hair, she would've thought that she was looking into a mirror.
"Chris?" she said surprised, "what are you doing up?" she asked in concern.
"I could ask you the same thing" he said softly, and her heart fluttered. Not only was he actually talking to her, but he was also worried about her.
"I was looking through the book trying to identify some of the demons that Piper and I saw with Wyatt, maybe one of them was responsible; and if they weren't, taking them out now certainly won't harm" she explained gently, subconsciously reaching over and brushing some of his hair out of his eyes, smiling when he didn't shy away from her touch.
"That's actually a very good idea" he stated thoughtfully, "it didn't occur to me" he added, and she smiled sympathetically at him.
"You can't think of everything sweetie, that's why we're here" she soothed, and he smiled shyly at her before he noticed the look in her eyes, one that he couldn't decipher.
"What?" he chuckled nervously under her scrutinizing gaze.
"I guess I'm just savoring this" she almost whispered.
"Savoring what?"
"Well, you've barely said two sentences to me since we found out that you were my son" she started, "you call Piper, Phoebe and Paige 'aunt' but you barely even look at me" she continued, and he was surprised at the lack of anger or resentment in her voice, just hurt.
"I know, but…" he trailed off, and avoided her gaze to look at a random spot on the floor.
"I know it's not easy being around me when you've come from a future where I haven't existed in a very long time; and I know that you are scared of getting close because you think that you will go back to a future without me…." She said softly.
"I don't think, I know" he cut her off.
"How can you be so sure? How do you know that you haven't already changed my future?" she asked, and he finally looked up to meet her gaze, shattering her heart in the process when she saw the fear and pain in his eyes.
"Because I never saw who did it; no one did. You were home alone and I came back early and found you in a pool of blood. I didn't even get a chance to call for Leo or Aunt Paige, or anyone who could heal you because you were already dead" he cried in pain.
Prue abandoned her seat on the couch and crouched down in front of him, "Chris listen to me; the future will be different, we killed many demons that you said were still roaming around when you were born, and the more we kill the more chances that we will get the one who killed me" she soothed, but he shook his head defiantly at her, and she couldn't help the proud smirk, "you're so much like me; I am surprised they never caught on to the family resemblance"
Her heart fluttered, and she chuckled when he released a tearful laugh, "sweetie, I know it's hard and I know that you're scared of getting hurt if you didn't find me when you go back, and I understand how you feel; I was there once. But don't you think you should view this as a second chance? Maybe instead of running away, you should make the most of it?" she suggested softly, smiling reassuringly at him when he stared at her.
He was about to move closer to her, when he caught a demon shimmering in out of the corner of his eye, "demon" he yelled, as he pushed her out of the way of an oncoming fireball.
Prue rolled over and turned around to face the demon, both her fighting and mother modes kicking in. The demon hurled two energy balls followed by two fireballs towards Chris –who had positioned himself in front of her- and she was able to deflect two of them while Chris threw the other two back at the demon, who managed to dodge both, and hurled yet another slew of energy and fireballs in their direction.
They were both so focused on battling the demon that they didn't notice the warlock that blinked in, in time to see Chris vanquish the demon he was battling, and his screams masked the smashing sounds of a potion bottle at Prue's feet.
"What the hell was that?" Chris exclaimed, baffled by the completely random attack; especially that the demon wasn't all that powerful so it didn't make any sense that he would attack two of the most powerful witches alive. When he didn't receive a response, he turned around and his eyes nearly bugged out of his skull. He found shattered potion vile, but not Prue. He stood up and looked around the room, thinking that maybe she ducked behind one of the couches, but found no trace of her.
"Mom?" he called worriedly, only to receive no response.
I know that this is nearly two months later, but like I said before this story is proving very difficult to write. I know what will happen and in what order, but actually putting it into words is a near impossibility which is why I write the paragraphs as they come.
I know that this is short, but this is all I have so far and I didn't want you guys to wait any longer. I appreciate your patience very much, and I am humbled by your support. I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for all of you.
To ; thank you :) and thank you very much for your continuous support. I am sorry you had to wait this long :)
To Darquesse16; thank you :) sorry for the long wait.
To lizardmomma; yes she can :) thank you for the review and sorry for the review.
To Mony19; well staying in the future had been handled too many times in other fics and I don't like repeating what other people did. I mainly had them go to the future to help them understand what they have to stop and so Piper would stop fighting Chris and denying what is happening. In this story, all three Halliwell kids are equally powerful, each in their own way and each due to different reasons. Like I explained before, both Andie and Wyatt are prophecies, and both are either the first born or the first male born so they are equally powerful, and same for Chris, which is why neither can defeat the other. The apology to Chris was long overdue, and in my opinion it was never really approached on the show. Sorry for the long wait and thank you for your support.
To ObsessedwReading; thank you :)
To Guest, glad to hear that. Thank you :)
