Five Years Later
Part 59
With everything that had happened, the Smythes were more than ready to head to the exhibit alone to let Blaine and Sebastian take care of things, but Blaine reassured them there was nothing left for them to do. That their friends were in charge of planning whatever what was going to happen and that he and Sebastian only had to show up. During the trip over Victoria and Xavier continued to ask Blaine more questions about what was going on as they were fascinated by the whole process. The more he explained, Sebastian smiled, as his parents weren't necessarily the types to take interest in things simply for pleasantries sake. So for them to be so interested, showed how much they approved of and cared about Blaine.
When Victoria had asked the name of the single, a smile crept to Blaine's face that was certainly different from the one he'd been sporting. Yet the moment he said it was a secret, Sebastian leaned over to look at him. "Are you saying even I can't know?" Sebastian asked, slowing their pace as they walked the last block.
"Yes, as you haven't heard it. Heck, except for a few songs, even you haven't heard the ones that are going on the album." Blaine told him. "They're all new and we're dying to play them for a crowd."
"But…"
"Bas, I said you hadn't heard them. That doesn't mean you haven't read some of them." Blaine replied causing Xavier to snicker a bit at Sebastian's reaction. While the boys were clearly quite different in so many ways, in others, they were quite the same. "Though, the song they chose as the first single, you haven't read."
"What type of song is it Blaine since your music tends to run quite a gamut?" Victoria asked.
"This one is quite upbeat, which they felt was perfect for the summer."
"So it's something you can sing along with."
"Yes, it's quite catchy if I do say so. I've caught myself humming it quite often."
"You mean that damn song!" Sebastian exclaimed as he looked at him.
"The very one." Blaine replied before stretching to give him a quick peck on the cheek.
"Heck, I've caught myself humming the same thing because of how often you do it. It's freaking frustrating since I don't know exactly what it is."
"Well, in about eight weeks you'll have lyrics to go with it as well as the rest of the arrangement as what I'm usually humming is the melody."
"What's it about?"
"You'll see."
"B."
"Sebastian, let him surprise you." Victoria told him. "From what we've seen, it clearly means a lot to him to want to surprise you."
"Thank you Victoria."
"You are very welcome Blaine."
"That doesn't mean I'm not going to try to get it out of him." Sebastian said as he looked down at Blaine who just smiled at him.
"I wouldn't expect anything less from you Bas." Sebastian then leaned down to kiss him as they approached the gate to enter the embassy and the exhibit.
Considering everything that was going on, Santana wanted to be there for Blaine that evening so after getting word from the others on the plans she called her boss. Thankfully since the guys had been in more than a few times, her manager understood her desire to switch shifts with one of the other girls. And it wasn't that she wanted the night off, she just wanted to work a bit earlier so she could join the others later. When she was told the time they were getting together, she was so thankful to know it was so late because the Smythes were taking Blaine and Sebastian out to celebrate. So with a name from her manager, Santana made a call to switch shifts with one of the other girls.
Once she rolled onto her side to look at Jordan, she tucked a strand of brown hair behind her ear. "At least I do not have to leave as early as I thought." Santana told her. "We'll essentially be leaving here together."
"From what I heard, she had no problems switching."
"She didn't as she understood all too well. I'm pretty certain everyone I work with has gone to hear Blaine perform at one point or another. And while I didn't tell her exactly what we were celebrating, she could tell it was big from the sound of my voice."
"That's because you Santana Lopez sound positively giddy." When Santana looked at her, Jordan smiled. "It's true and you have every right to be as it's not every day a friend gets a song released in the way Blaine's is going to get done. This isn't something quiet, their going all out from what he said. Goes to show how much faith they have in him."
"They should considering how packed the places are when he plays." Santana stated. "It's still crazy thinking about Blainers having such enthusiastic fans. But I understand it as when he performs there is something special about him that goes beyond how talented he is."
"My producer said the same thing when he watched the footage. When I get into work today I'm going to make a few calls and see if I can get another interview with him before they leave for tour."
"Considering the feedback you got from your first show that sounds like an excellent idea. Plus, the more press Blaine gets the better." Santana then leaned forward and kissed Jordan who was lying on her back. "If I say something, it doesn't make me anymore of a bitch than I am, does it?"
"It would take quite a bit for that to happen." Jordan told her before tapping her nose while smiling. "What is it?"
"I wish I could be there the moment Hummel hears Blaine's song on the radio. He's going to go ballistic considering he never thought Blaine was going to make it."
"You're really reveling in that fact, aren't you?"
"I am." Santana said as she began to run her hand over Jordan's flat stomach. "Over the years he got so arrogant in ways I never imagine possible for him even considering the diva he is. It literally got to the point where all of us were most often wrong and he was always right. He took every opportunity to point out our mistakes, at least mistakes in his mind. Honestly, the more I think about it, no wonder Blaine had such a crisis of identity considering the way Hummel always nagged him."
"Well, now Blaine doesn't have to worry about him as he's got Sebastian who is so supportive of him and loves him unconditionally. The same goes for you and Rachel as he's not really a part of your lives anymore."
"Mine more than Rachel's as she's still trying to maintain their friendship while I said screw it. Though, we all have to still deal with him when he shows up to see Blaine perform."
"True. But one can only hope that in time he'll stop as he's got to realize he's never going to get that opportunity to talk with Blaine that he wants so badly."
"I wish it was that simple. When…" Santana stopped when she heard a knock on the loft door, but when it didn't stop she rolled her eyes. "See what I mean."
"How can you be so sure?"
"He's the only person that does that when they come over. Normal people knock once or twice and then give us time to get there. He, keeps knocking until someone comes to the door. The fact that we have the stereo on isn't helping matters either as he knows someone is here." Once Santana sighed, it was only moments later that Jordan watched her get off the bed and wrap a robe around herself. "While I would love to ignore it and get back to us, I can't as the knocking tends to give me a headache when it goes on for too long."
"Remember, he's going to give you lip for your lack of clothing."
"That's on him, he should be happy I put a robe on. Now don't move as I'll be right back." Upon reaching the door, Santana took a deep breath as she didn't want to let Kurt's appearance ruin the good mood she was in. After pulling it open enough so she could see him, she leaned against the frame. "May I help you?"
"I'd like to speak with Rachel." Kurt said as he looked at Santana, a look of disgust evident on his face. "So, let me in."
"While that's a nice concept, it's not going to happen…at least now, Rachel's not home." Santana then took ahold of the door as Kurt reached for it to look for himself. "She's at her boyfriend's place."
"Rachel!"
"She's not here." Santana told him. "The only one's here are me and Jordan. As I said, Rachel is spending the day with her boyfriend." When Kurt reached for his phone, Santana placed her hand on his arm. "I wouldn't do that unless you want to talk to voicemail. You see, they don't often get time to spend alone so I doubt she'd answer."
"She'll answer."
"No, she won't as she's having a nice day with him. That's not even getting into what you said last night in front of her. She was utterly appalled that you said what you did about Sebastian in front of his Dad."
"It's the truth."
"Kurt, like the rest of us, Sebastian has changed whether you want to believe it or not."
"I doubt it."
"Like I said, believe it or not that's up to you. Now, if you don't mind I'm going to go as I've only got a couple more hours with Jordan till work calls and I plan on making the most of it."
"You're disgusting!"
"And you're a liar." When Kurt's expression changed, Santana smirked. "You heard me. While the guys have neither confirmed nor denied Wes's accusation prior to last night, you did."
"Excuse me, I…I don't know what you're talking about."
"I'm talking about your reaction to what Mr. Smythe said to you after what you said about Sebastian. You cheated on Blaine during your marriage Hummel. So, don't act all innocent as for some reason I doubt in this city it was all holding hands and cuddling." Kurt just looked at her as Santana crossed her arms over her chest. "Bye Kurt." She was just reaching to close the door when he put his foot in front of it. "What?"
"Does Rachel know?"
"No, as I don't have the heart to tell her considering the way you treated Blaine. But, I can't help but feel your time is limited as it's only a matter of time till she finds out. And when that happens, watch out!" Santana then pushed his foot from in front of the door before pulling it shut and locking it once more. Once it was, she leaned back against it as she honestly surprised herself by saying what she did. While she'd believed deep down between Mr. Smythe's words and Kurt's reaction it was true, she still wasn't sure. Yet now, she knew the truth and more of the façade of Blaine's marriage was crumbling down, affecting her in ways she hadn't expected.
Santana didn't realize she'd gotten lost in her thoughts till she felt a hand on her shoulder causing her to look up to see Jordan before her. She wasn't quite sure why, but Santana wrapped her arms tightly around Jordan without saying a word and only beginning to relax upon feeling Jordan's arms around her. Even though she was concerned considering what she'd heard and how Santana acted once she closed the door, seeing her like this worried her even more as she'd never seen Santana like this since they'd gotten together. "Do you want to talk?" Jordan asked after some time as she'd loosened her hold a bit.
"Have you ever gotten confirmation about something that you hoped you'd be wrong about?"
"Considering my career choice, sadly yes. What's this about?"
"Can we go sit down?"
"Of course, you choose where." It wasn't long till they made it back to Santana's room and curled up in bed. Once Santana placed her head against Jordan's shoulder, she felt Jordan take her hand. "So, what's going on?"
"Hummel did cheat on Blaine during their marriage." Santana said softly. "Talk about a hypocrite as he gave Blaine absolute hell when he had a lone hook up in high school when they were together. Hell, Blaine admitted to him it happened as he felt so guilty about what he'd done."
"That speaks volumes as most are found out by others." Jordan replied. "Rarely does one admit to it."
"Agreed. That's not to mention that throughout their marriage Kurt constantly accused Blaine of cheating once again. Yet, knowing the guilt Blaine felt the first time around neither Rachel nor I believed he was doing so. Little did we know the accusations were essentially a cover for what Kurt was doing behind Blaine's back. I just wish I knew why Blaine didn't tell us, yet the guys seem to know."
"From what I can see, Blaine didn't want to drag you and Rachel into the mess that went on between them. I take it Kurt confirmed it as you said Blaine hasn't it."
"That would be correct as I called him out on his reaction to Mr. Smythe last night." Santana told her. "This is going to kill Rachel to know this is all true. It now makes sense why Thad won't say anything as it's not up to him to tell Rachel, it's up to Blaine."
"This further proves the type of person Blaine is that he never dragged the two of you into things as they were happening."
"It certainly does. One can only imagine how Sebastian reacted when he found out."
"That is something you're going to have to ask Blaine or Sebastian about. Now, are you going to be okay?"
"Yea, it's just going to take some time to process everything. Goes to show you never really know someone as well as you might think. It's as Rachel said, she never expected to see Kurt try and hit Blaine either. He really isn't the person she and I thought at all."
With such a change in Santana, Jordan decided to give Todd a call on her way to work knowing he might be able to give her a bit of insight into things. While she'd met Blaine on numerous times before the party at Thad's, she didn't know him nearly as well as Todd did. So when he'd answered his phone, he was a bit surprised to have her asking if he knew that Kurt had cheated on Blaine when they were married. The fact that said no only got Jordan to think more as Santana had been doing in wondering what else had happened to Blaine while he was married. But before she got to ask anything else, Todd flat out told her to drop it as his marriage wasn't something Blaine liked talking about to anyone.
When she protested, Todd told her he knew that tone of voice with her too well as that's when her reporter instincts tended to kick in. So he told her to concentrate on all the good things that are happening to Blaine, as Sebastian was taking good care of Blaine. "How can you sit back after all the things you guys witnessed while they were married through the divorce?"
"Easy, Blaine asked us not to ask questions about that time in his life." Todd told her. "And if you saw his face when he asked, you'd honor that request. Why do you ask though?"
"Santana."
"I should've guessed. Just tell her, to leave things be as it would be best. There is no reason for Blaine to have to relive those memories with all the good things happening for him."
"That's very true, so I will mention that to her. While certain information is new for so many, Blaine's already dealt with it and moved on."
"Precisely. And while I understand their desire to know, that really needs to be up to Blaine if he wants to tell them. Now, are you coming to the party this evening?"
"Yes, I take that to mean you'll be there."
"Of course, we all will be as this is huge. While we're happy as we're a part of this, this is Blaine's big moment and we're going to help him celebrate it."
"Are you going to share the song with everyone?"
"No as Blaine wants that kept a secret till it drops." When he heard Jordan sigh, Todd laughed. "Dear, even Sebastian doesn't know so you're not going to get it out of him. Just know, I'm pretty certainly you're going to love it."
"Are you sure about that?"
"Positive, as it's the perfect choice for his first single. And while I'd love to talk more, I need to get going as I need to go meet with Vincent as I'm getting a new kit for tour."
"Alright, I'll talk to you later. And Todd, thank you."
"You are very welcome. I'll see you tonight."
Considering what he said, it really did make a lot of sense to Jordan. While she understood how Santana felt and how Rachel felt being in the dark, everything really was up to Blaine. It also showed that those of his friends that he'd opened up to respected him enough not to share what he'd told them.
By the time Blaine and Sebastian finished up dinner with his parents that night, Blaine glanced up at Sebastian before they got into their awaiting car. Once they were settled, Sebastian noticed Blaine was still looking at him. "Care to tell me what's on your mind?"
"I'm in a food coma." Blaine replied with a smile causing Sebastian to wrap his arm around him. "I don't think I've ever eaten such delectable food in my life."
"I know the feeling Killer. No one can say my parents don't have exquisite taste when it comes to food. They weren't kidding when they said they were going to spoil you tonight." Sebastian then leaned over and kissed the top of Blaine's head. "Though, I never expected that."
"So, they don't do that all the time?"
"No. The last time we went out for dinner like that, was when I graduated from Columbia. They only do things like this for special occasions and your first single getting a release date, is most certainly special." When Blaine went to speak, Sebastian shook his head. "No protesting, this is big B."
"I…I'm just not used to people making a fuss over me like this outside of my parents."
"Well B, my parents care about you too. And while people might think it's a bit much, when it comes to celebrating my parents tend to only do things big. I hope you weren't uncomfortable because if you were, I'm sorry."
"No, I wasn't uncomfortable in the slightest Bas. I was truly touched." Blaine told him. "Honest."
"Okay. So, are you going to be good to celebrate with everyone?"
"I should be."
"Should be?"
"Yes, as I wouldn't have minded if we went home after dinner and had a more personal celebration. I mean, I was a bit distracted when we got home Friday night."
"I didn't notice." Sebastian told him and soon felt Blaine place his hand on his thigh. "Are you saying our night would've been different?"
"Slightly."
"How about I make it up to you next weekend?"
"You mean during our getaway in which you're still not telling me where we're going."
"Yes, during our getaway. And you'll find out when we get there. Just know, it's exactly what we both need as it'll be complete, uninterrupted time for the two of us before things start to get crazy. And, I'll make sure to bring along some champagne so we can keep on celebrating."
"True, things are going to get crazy. I wish your spring break was the same time as mine so you could come with."
"Me too Killer. I guess we're going to get a glimpse into how things are going to be for us during the summer."
"That's true. It doesn't mean I don't want you with me though."
"That's what I like to hear. Just as that doesn't mean I don't want to be with you. We're just going to be calling, texting, and Skyping a lot."
"Yes and your schedule is pretty set so finding time to do so won't be that bad. Just as this summer you'll be working during the day. So, we'll just find times that work for us." Blaine said before glancing out the window to see close they were. "You know one of the things I'm going to miss most Bas." Sebastian shook his head. "Coming home to you after a performance."
"I'll miss that too. Guess we'll have to make sure when you come home, we're not disturbed for awhile as we'll have some catching up to do."
"I like the sound of that." Blaine replied as he ran his hand over Sebastian's thigh. "And as much as I'm going to want to see everyone, they better realize that you'll be my first priority."
"I have a feeling they'll know, especially Jeff as I have a feeling he's going to feel the same in regards to Morgan. And I know Hunter will understand considering all the travel Kimberly does. It's one of the benefits of us not being younger, a better grasp of what's going on around us. Also, the guys said we just need to let them know when we're going to need help." When Blaine looked at him, Sebastian smiled. "Moving your stuff Killer."
"And here I thought I'd have to pull teeth to get them to help."
"All they ask is that we feed them." Sebastian told them. "The fact that we're not doing it all at once is also appealing to them."
"Understandable, since I wasn't looking forward to moving it all at once either. We're really doing this, aren't we Bas?"
"That we are Killer, that is if it's still what you want."
"It is, you?"
"The same. I rather like the idea of you coming home to me after a show or being on the road if I'm not there."
"Me too. "
Before they could get any deeper into their conversation, they felt their car come to a stop. Once the rear door opened, they made their way out and towards the VIP entrance where they were quickly ushered in. Sebastian couldn't help but tease Blaine as there was quite a bit of talk as they made their way inside. Seeing Blaine walking in, while not being on the schedule to perform certainly got those waiting to get in talking. They barely were through the door when Brad came walking up to them. After a brief conversation, they headed up the stairs to the upper level as Stephen had felt it was best to put them upstairs so they could have some privacy while celebrating.
Once the rounded the corner, they heard an eruption of applause and cheers as all of their friends were there along with a few unexpected surprises. "What are you doing here?" Blaine asked after giving David a hug. "Not that I'm not thrilled."
"Did you really think the rest of us wouldn't come for such an occasion?" Beat chimed in with as he put an arm around Blaine's shoulders. "I'd barely gotten off the phone with Thad once he told me what was going on, and was packing a bag and heading to catch the train."
"You guys really didn't need too, but thank you. It means a lot to me!"
"That's more like it!" David replied with a smile. "I've got to tell you, tons of my friends are coming to your shows in Cambridge and Boston."
"The same goes for mine in Providence." Beat added. "It goes to show that your fans here in the city talk about you quite a bit. I mean, once word got out you we're playing there was a mad dash for tickets."
"Well, if they were sold-out before you got yours, know you've got an in." Blaine said with a laugh as Sebastian watched Blaine catch up with some of the guys he hadn't seen in awhile. "I would've made sure you got in."
"I appreciate that." Beat told him. "But I got mine. I'll be seeing you twice."
"Twice?"
"He's coming to the Boston show as well." David added. "We thought it would be a fun night together. Not to mention, we'd get to hear more since everyone talks about how you change up your sets from show to show."
"That we do." Blaine replied before glancing over at Sebastian and smiling. "Helps keep things fresh, though there will be a few songs you'll hear at each show."
"So, what is the name of the single?" Trent asked as he joined them.
"He's not telling." Nick called out from near the bar. "Asking is futile as we've all tried."
"Come on Blaine, you can trust us." Trent told him. "You know that."
"I know I can, but I'm still not telling. Right Bas?"
"That would be correct B."
"Wait, even Sebastian doesn't know?" Beat asked.
"Even Bas doesn't know." Blaine replied. "I want it to be a surprise for everyone."
"Jeff?" David asked as he turned to look at him.
"I don't either, Morgan's lips are sealed. So we'll have to wait through these next eight weeks for our first listen."
"If you pay attention to B, you might get a glimpse as he's admitted to humming the melody quite often." Sebastian added. "But that's about it. Yet, I can tell you from listening to him, it's damn catchy."
Blaine smiled at Sebastian and then took a good look around the room, slightly overwhelmed to see everyone on such short notice. To see his friends so happy for him, and to hear what they said about his upcoming shows made him happier than he could imagine. As he'd be lying if he said he wasn't worried about playing outside of the New York metro area, and only Sebastian knew that. Yet knowing there was a buzz about his shows, helped lighten some of those reservations.
When he turned his head after getting a drink he smiled when he stopped Stephen and Quinn joining the festivities. "Thank you." Blaine told him after giving them each a hug.
"I should be thanking you." Stephen replied. "And once Rachel called Quinn there was no way I wasn't going to help out celebrating this moment for you. You should also know, quite a few people spotted you and Sebastian come in."
"So we heard." Blaine said as Sebastian slid an arm around him. "It was a bit weird hearing people calling out for me."
"I can only imagine. And while I'd love to stay up here, I need to go as I've got a bar to run. But should you guys need anything, let me know." Blaine smiled then watched as Stephen leaned over to give Quinn a kiss before heading back downstairs.
Once he was gone, they all began to mingle once again and when Blaine was over talking with some of the guys, Santana walked up to Sebastian. "Something I can do for you Miss Lopez as I could see you waiting for Blaine to leave my side?"
"I know."
"I'm sure you know lots of things."
"Sebastian."
"What is it that you think you know?"
"Kurt cheated on Blaine." Sebastian cocked an eyebrow at her before taking a sip of his drink. "Don't look at me like that Sebastian. From the way he reacted to what your Dad said, I had a good feeling Wes wasn't just playing mind games with him. And well, Hummel admitted it to me today when he came over looking for Rachel."
"What do you want to hear from me as you now know?"
"I want to say I'm sorry."
"For?"
"Not seeing what was going on while they were married, no wonder Blaine was so unhappy." After she finished, Sebastian downed the rest of his drink before looking at her. "Sebastian."
"It's not your fault, okay. And there was nothing you or Rachel could've done as that marriage was more of a mess than anyone knew."
"Still."
"Santana." Sebastian then took a deep breath. "Now is neither the time nor place to talk about this. Not to mention, it's not my story to tell. Honestly…forget it." Sebastian looked at her before turning and walking away as he was frustrated and didn't want to say anything he might regret. Once he walked away, Blaine came walking up to her as he'd see it happen.
"What happened Santana?"
"I…I'm not sure. We were talking and then the next moment, he walked away. Normally I'd be pissed, but I have a feeling he did it for a reason."
"What were you talking about?"
"You." Santana said before looking down at the ground. "I told him I knew that Kurt cheated on you and…I wanted to say I was sorry."
"For?"
"If I had known Blaine, I would've had a few choice words with him given the crap he gave you way back when."
"Santana, there is plenty that went on during my marriage to Kurt that nobody knows. I didn't believe it was right to drag anyone else into our problems, as they were ours not yours."
"When did it start if you don't mind me asking?"
"Shortly after he went back to working for Isabelle. He had an entire other life that didn't include me."
"How'd you cope?"
"I didn't find out until after New Years' of this year. But once I knew, it confirmed how off things were aside from all the fighting we were doing." When Santana was about to ask how, Blaine continued. "Don't ask how I found out, I just did. Does Rachel know?"
"After what Wes said, neither of us knew if it was true or not. But his reaction last night confirmed to me it was true. Yet, I didn't say anything to her about it knowing how it's going to hit her."
"First off, thank you as I feel the same way. Secondly, she's going to find out as she keeps asking Thad about things the guys have said and it's getting harder for him to not tell her."
"So they all know?"
"Yes, but everyone doesn't know. Sam doesn't know either. But with everything that has been going on as of late, Bas and I have talked and I'm going to let you guys know what happened so I don't have this hanging over my head anymore."
"Blaine, I…"
"Santana, it was only a matter of time considering how Kurt's been behaving. And it's causing the one thing I never wanted, getting my friends involved."
