If I Were A Boy

Me:going through some of the reviews from some of my other stories and remembering what was going on back then and cracking up laughing with a smile on my face, made me realize why I enjoy getting them. They make doing all of this a hundred times more enjoyable.

Keith: so what did Karrie see?

Me: impatient are we?

Keith: yes

Summer: now THAT's a big surprise

Keith: you don't have to be so sarcastic

Ben: well?

Keith: pokelover0ash does not own Pokemon. She only owns her OCs.

Chapter 5

'Oh crap.' Karrie thought. She looked at the man and realized quickly that this man was more around Kaleb's age, so not quite a man. The boy smirked as he looked her over with his brown eyes. Karrie turned red as she realized that unlike Jewels, this guy was totally checking her out.

"Hey sweetheart, mind letting me in?" the boy asked. He had red hair too, Karrie noticed. He reached to caress her cheek bone and play with her brown hair a bit which totally freaked Karrie out.

"Eek!" Karrie exclaimed as she turned red. "W-what do you think you're doing?"

"Huh? What does it look like I'm doing?" the boy asked with a cocky looking smile. He was totally trying to flirt with Kellyn's tomboyish sister. He didn't get an answer though, not a verbal one anyways. He suddenly felt as if the wind was knocked out of him and he looked down in surprised to see that the girl had punch him in the gut, hard. He fell back a step and clutched his stomach. It hurt, a lot. "What was that for?!"

"Karrie? What's wrong?" Ashleigh asked as she came up from behind the short tomboy with Kaleb. Kaleb and the boy looked at each other in surprise.

"What are you doing here?" they both asked each other. Karrie hugged Ashleigh as if Ashleigh would protect her from the flirt.

"What's wrong?" Ashleigh asked again.

"H-He was doing weird stuff to me," Karrie replied. "So I punched him in the gut." Ashleigh couldn't help but smile and Kaleb glared at the boy.

"Keith, what did you do to Kellyn's sister? You have a girlfriend," Kaleb said and the redhead looked at him in surprise.

"Nothing! I swear! I just flirted automatically like I do whenever I see a cute or hot girl," Keith replied. "What are you doing here? And that is Kellyn's sister?! Holy crap!"

"He's just here with me while I visit some of my friends who decided to take a vacation here in Almia and Karrie decided to swing on by," Ashleigh replied and Keith grinned.

"And who might you be, my fair lady?" Keith asked and Kaleb almost literally growled at him.

"That would be MY girlfriend," Kaleb replied.

"Oh," Keith commented deciding it was totally not worth being murdered by Kaleb to pursue flirting with Ashleigh anymore.

"I'm Ashleigh, are you one of Kaleb's friends?" Ashleigh asked and Keith nodded.

"Yep, we went through Ranger School together and everything," Keith replied.

"Why are you here? Besides, to flirt," Kaleb asked and Keith pretended that Kaleb had seriously wounded his heart.

"I'm here because of a complaint of a lot of noise and reports saying that there might be a fight going down over here, Ranger duty," Keith replied.

"Oh, I guess they were making a lot of noise." Ashleigh commented. "I'm so sorry, my friends from the Trainer regions can be rather noisy at times, I'll make sure they know to be more quiet."

"I'll take your word on it, cutie," Keith replied as he winked at her. Kaleb glared at him. "Sorry man, reflex." He then looked at Karrie. "Still can't believe you're Kellyn's sister. Last time I saw you, you were this shy itty bitty thing that avoided me the whole time I was over." Karrie blushed from embarrassment. "But now, hot *beep*." Karrie turned bright red and Kaleb almost went over to hit Keith for Karrie. Almost. "Anyways..." Keith looked over at Kaleb and Ashleigh. "Never thought Kaleb would get a girlfriend, especially not one that was considered to be a celebrity." The new couple blushed. "Not bad Kal, not bad at all."

"Keith!" Rhythmi called out as she ran towards him. The redhead's eyes widen in a panic.

"Oh crap," Keith said before looking at them with pleading eyes. "Please don't tell her about me flirting with your chick or Kel's sis, got it Kal?"

"Huh? Why are you running from Rhyth?" Kaleb asked.

"Because she's sometimes a real witch and real annoying too," Keith replied. "Please, I owe you big time." Kaleb rolled his eyes.

"Fine, as long as you write off the noise disturbance just as a misunderstanding," Kaleb replied.

"Deal." Keith said before running off into the forest. Kaleb sighed.

"So that's Keith?" Ashleigh asked. "I thought you mentioned that he never had one girlfriend very long."

"That was the case before he made the mistake *cough* I mean choice, err decision, of going out with Rhythmi," Kaleb replied. "The two have been together ever since."

"Why does it sound as if you don't like the two of them together?" Karrie asked.

"It's not like I mind, in fact it's kind of amusing at times," Kaleb replied. "Other times can be...well...let's just say sometimes their romance makes me want to run off and puke."

"Oh, so they can be THAT kind of couple," Ashleigh commented and Kaleb nodded.

"I have no idea what you mean nor do I think I want to know," Karrie commented. Rhythmi ran up with to them and Ashleigh smiled kindly at her as Kaleb and Karrie were kind of terrified that the blonde puffball decided to come interrogate-I mean, talk to, them.

"Hello, I don't think we've met," Ashleigh said as she went to shake her hand. "I believe you must be Rhythmi, Kaleb has told me about you." Rhythmi was a bit taken aback and Kaleb smiled. His girlfriend sure knew how to roll with the punches and she seemed to be an automatic pro at handling Rhythmi. Kaleb put his hand on Ashleigh's shoulder and smiled slightly. No need for Rhythmi to get freaked out and send him to hospital because he wasn't frowning.

"This is Ashleigh, my girlfriend," Kaleb said and he had to admit, he liked saying that, a lot. Rhythmi automatically clasped onto Ashleigh's hand.

"No way! So this is the girl who unfroze the Ranger with the heart of ice!" Rhythmi exclaimed. "It's a pleasure to meet you!" Rhythmi then looked at Karrie. "And you must be Kellyn's sister, you resemble him so much." Karrie nodded as she wasn't quite sure what to do with the blonde teenager. "I will be your mentor, I'm a Top Operator and a friend, so no worries, okay? Heard you're a bit a tomboy and troublemaker from Kellyn, but I'll watch after you, promise. I'll make sure those felines in there don't tear you to pieces." Karrie nodded though she was pretty sure she could handle herself in a fight, I mean she just almost did knock Keith out with one punch.

"So what brings you out over here, Rhyth?" Kaleb asked. "And running too, in heels." Rhythmi blushed slightly.

"Oh, um, well, I was running after Keith," Rhythmi replied and then she turned from sweet angel to a dark angry malicious looking she-devil. "That idiot!"

"What did he do this time?" Kaleb asked.

"This time?" Karrie and Ashleigh exclaimed. They heard that Keith was a bit of a prankster, troublemaker, and whatnot, but it still surprised them that the redheaded flirt was able to make such a nice girl into a demon enough times in which it was considered normal to Kaleb.

"The paparazzi just released photos of him flirting with other girls to the point in which it looks like he's cheating on me and to make things worse Linda told me he has a date with some other girl," Rhythmi replied. "We were just fine around lunch time before everything got leaked out to the public and now he's avoiding me AGAIN!"

"Knowing Keith, it wouldn't be surprising if he was just caught flirting with a few girls and nothing but flirting happened," Kaleb commented. "The date thing you'd have to ask Keith about, but it just might have something to do with the project he's been working on."

"You're right, I may be overreacting," Rhythmi said before sighing.

"Of course I'm right, though at this point I think how you are reacting to it is acceptable," Kaleb replied.

"Does this happen often?" Ashleigh asked with concern evident in her eyes. Rhythmi sighed and nodded.

"It's like a vicious cycle of us fighting, making up, making out, and so on," Rhythmi replied. "But I have tried so hard to make it work, but he just can't help himself it seems. Whenever a girl that is at least moderately cute or good looking or even dressing indecent, it seems as though he can't help but have his eyes wander, even when he's with me."

"Rhyth, you knew he was like this before you started to date him," Kaleb said.

"I know, but I thought it would be different, that it would change," Rhythmi replied.

"Then dump him, you deserve better," Karrie bluntly stated and Rhythmi shook her head.

"But I love him," Rhythmi said as she stared at the ground. Her cheeks were painted red and she nervously played with her hair."Maybe I am making mountains out of molehills." She then looked up at them and smiled. "Thank you for listening! I hope we all run into each other more often! Now do you know where Keith went?" All three of them pointed to the woods. "Thanks."

"That was weird," Karrie commented as she put her hands behind her head.

"I can't help but feel bad for her," Ashleigh commented.

"She's a strong woman, but just like every other girl in these regions, she has these certain rules and limitations that keep her from being the best woman she can be," Kaleb replied before glancing at Karrie. "Kare could end up helping her a lot without really trying much. Though seriously Kare, you need her help so don't make her hate you." Karrie put her hands up in defense.

"I wouldn't dare," Karrie replied.

"So, who was at the door?" Jewels asked as he popped up behind them.

"Originally, a Ranger because you people are too loud," Kaleb replied.

"Who was this dude who thought he was all that and tried to flirt with me," Karrie added. "And checked me out." Jewels looked surprised.

"And just who was this 'dude' and what happened?" Jewels asked.

"Keith, a Top Ranger," Ashleigh replied.

"Considered to be ranked in the Top 5 Hottest Guys in the Ranger Regions," Kaleb added and Jewels's jaw dropped.

"That kind of guy flirted with her?" Jewels asked before giving Karrie a look over. "I guess I can sort of see why he might, if he overlooked her barbaric appearance."

"Barbaric?" Karrie asked as she raised a fist and Jewels flinched.

"Karrie punched him and we came over, talked a bit, and then he ran away when he saw that his girlfriend was coming after him," Ashleigh explained to Jewels. Jewels nodded.

"Very unladylike, but still, good job," Jewels told Karrie who put her fists down. She didn't quite know how to react to Jewels insult/compliment. "Oh, and unfortunately for the both of us, we are both stuck together through Operator School. Dark went off to find Nathan and Moon."

"Who?" Karrie asked. "And I don't think I ever caught your name." Jewels bowed slightly.

"Jewels Davenport, m'lady," Jewels replied. "Nathan and Moon are friends of mine. What would your name be?"

"Karrie Chandler," Karrie replied as she took a step back from the prissy purple haired boy.

"So Nathan is going to help out with Ranger School?" Ashleigh asked and Jewels nodded.

"That's the plan, though he's probably going to try to get someone else to do it," Jewels replied. "Which won't work well for him." Kaleb sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.

"Tomorrow's going to be a long day, I can tell," Kaleb said. "I just hope that Sum gets placed in my group or Kellyn's."

"But you might give it away and Kellyn might figure it out," Ashleigh replied and Kaleb groaned as he realized that Ashleigh was right.

"Just make sure that you guys aren't late," Kaleb said. "Karrie, you should get going home and so should we. SAM! Come here! We're leaving!" He sighed. "This is going to take getting used to." Summer ran over and they left Jewels to the mercy of the rest of the trainers. They then walked back to Chicole Village. Karrie spent her last day not being an Operator or in Operator School with her family as Summer spent her last day before Ranger School started for her as Sam with her mother, brother, and brother's girlfriend.

~the next day~

Summer, dressed as a boy, was assigned a walking group that had Jack Walker leading it. She was disappointed to find out that her brother would not be escorting her, but she was happy to see Nathan in her group, because that meant that she would have one person on the inside of the school to turn to, even if he was a stranger technically still. From the walk, she could definitely say that Jackie was a flirt and probably a pervert too. He also seemed to be sexist. Nathan and her sat through orientation and then were shown to were they would be staying for the rest of the year as well as their schedule. They would share a dorm room together, but unfortunately, Summer noticed that it was not just them who would be sharing the room together. Granted there was a full bathroom attached to the room, but the other boys might end up being a problem.

Nathan didn't talk that much, but as he placed a picture of him with what seemed to be his friends, Summer could tell he was nice guy. She took the top bunk and after they finished up unpacking, they waited and stared at each other. Nathan investigating the bathroom and the door to the bathroom before finally speaking.

"It locks so figure out changing and washing in relation to it," Nathan said and Summer nodded. "I'll help if I can, or if necessary, but that's about it." Summer nodded again as Nathan definitely reminded her of Kaleb. The door swung open. A boy with gravity defying brown hair stepped through with a boy with navy blue hair.

"Hey! Our roommates are here finally!" the boy with gravity defying hair exclaimed and the boy with navy blue hair nodded. "I'm Benjamin Kennedy, but you can call me Ben! And this here is Lunick Arlington!"

"Nathan Steele," Nathan replied stiffly.

"Sam Layton," Summer replied with a goofy grin.

"Layton? Isn't there a Top Ranger with that name?" Lunick asked.

"Yep, that would be my cousin, Kaleb," Summer replied.

"Lunick's dad is a bigshot on the council so we get the best room!" Ben exclaimed and Lunick elbowed him hard in the side. "OW!"

"Don't need to announce it to the world," Lunick replied. "Depending on whether I like you or not, you should worry quite a bit about breaking rules." Summer and Nathan shot each other a look. Well, that was one person they planned on never telling about Summer's secret.

~with Karrie~

Karrie was surprised to see Jewels dressed with a bow in his hair and in the Operator School uniform, which was a uniform Karrie absolutely hated. She was currently wearing black strap on dress shoes, white knee high socks, a blue short skirt, a white button up shirt, a yellow bow for a necktie that was obnoxious looking, and a green overcoat. She silently cursed her brother for doing this to her. Jewels and her made an interesting pair. Jewels looked like a rebel to operators with the short hair and the grumpy look on his face and Karrie looked as if she could be persuade to the ways of an operator except for the fact that she looked as though she was ready to murder someone.

After orientation, Rhythmi took the two...erm...girls?...to their room that just the two of them were to share. You see, people have discovered that putting more than two girls in a room together, unless all of them consent to it, can potentially be a very bad thing. So to lower the rate of drama a bit, they didn't typically assign more than two a room, unlike in Ranger School.

This was great, because Karrie didn't want to have to deal with the girls in Operator School anymore than she had to and Jewels could worry less about his gender being revealed, that and he brought a lot of stuff with him. Rhythmi let them be and Karrie let out a sigh as she fell on top of her bed, which was surprisingly much comfier than she had expected.

"Do we have to wear skirts everyday?" Karrie asked.

"Apparently, for the most part, yes," Jewels replied. "Though I wish they picked a better uniform or color palette, it's horrendous."

"For once, we agree," Karrie commented.

~end of chapter~

Keith: why did I get punched in the gut?

Karrie: 'cause you flirted with the wrong girl

Keith: that hurt though!

Summer: so I do get Nathan!

Me: yeah, but trust me, he won't be very helpful. He's not too important to the story. I just decided to throw him in after I got this awesome idea to make Jewels into a girl and stick him with Karrie, because that just amused me.

Jewels: gee thanks

Nathan: T.T

Me: no problem, besides, Karrie's going to need someone other than Rhythmi to be her friend when it comes to Operator School

Ben: I got some more screen time! YAY!

Ashleigh: what happened to girl power performances?

Me: that will still happen, don't worry, haven't forgotten about it

Ashleigh: okay =D

Me: anyways, please review! I love hearing from you readers!
