During "Hunter's Heart", Arthur finds Gwen's ring. He turns away from Mithian. Meantime, Merlin pays closer attention to her. His secrets come to light. They discover that he and Balinor had links to Nemeth. Agravaine and Morgana plot to kidnap Mithian as well. The resulting adventure turns everything on its head.

The consequences of some events knock on the door at the least opportune moments, the idea that a human's worth doesn't depend on who he was born sprouts green leaves, and readers learn things they didn't learn from the show.
