AN: I don't own LWD

Loosely Inspired by one of my favorite songs, "How to Be a Heartbreaker" by Marina and The Diamonds, which I don't own! Look it up though, it's a great song!

#30 They Like a Little Danger

Derek Venturi knew girls. He knew how they acted when they were with friends, and when they were with him. He knew how they ticked, he could read them like a book, and most importantly, he knew how to get the girl.

This confidence all shifted the day he started to pursue Casey McDonald.

Living in the same house for all those years made Derek believe that he knew Casey very well. Derek had seen Casey in all her past relationships and interactions with guys; she was giggly, girly, mushy/lovey, and well sometimes, clingy. Derek knew all this and thought that when Casey and him started talking during their sophomore year of college that she would be the same way towards him eventually. Boy was Derek wrong.

Flashback…

"So Casey I was thinking we finally take the plunge." Derek stated one night while the two were studying for a Literature test together. Casey looked up from her notes with a confused look, "What do you mean?" She asked. Derek smirked and replied, "I mean a date. I think we should finally go on a real date." Casey's face became unreadable, and a few moments later she finally replied, "Sure, just text me whenever. I should probably get going, early class tomorrow. See ya Der." Casey said nonchalantly, gathering up her books and bag and heading out the coffee shop. Derek scratched his head in confusion, Casey reacted way differently than he had thought she would.

The next day he headed to his Literature class, running late as usual. When he entered the classroom, he found that some guy already occupied his usual spot next to Casey. Casey was laughing, and listening intently to whatever the guy was saying, and she hadn't even acknowledged Derek yet. Derek could feel the jealousy pumping through his veins. He was about to interrupt the two when the Professor loudly cleared his throat, "Mr. Venturi, late once again. Well we have a test today as if you weren't aware. Now hurry up and get your ass to that empty seat in the back." Derek sighed and headed to the seat in the back.

When Derek walked out of that class, he knew he had failed that test. The whole time all he could concentrate on was that asshole talking and sitting next to Casey, and trying to resist the urge to get up and punch that guy square in the face. He couldn't catch up to Casey either, as she headed off to her next class with friends. Since he was unsure of what her next class was, Derek decided he would have to wait and catch her at dorm room.

That night, Derek finally went to Casey's dorm to see what was going on. He knocked on the door, and Casey immediately opened up. "Hey Derek, I wasn't expecting you over tonight." Derek scratched his head, and without trying to sound jealous or crazy and asked, "Is something wrong? Like are we okay?" Casey's face once again became unreadable before she simply replied, "Nothing's wrong, and of course we are okay. Why do you ask?" She said sitting on her bed, motioning him to join her. "Well last night when I talked about going on a date you kinda got weird and bolted out the door, and today you were sitting with that dude instead of me and you didn't even acknowledge me." Derek said nervously. "Casey gave him a half smile and replied, "I'm sorry Derek I didn't mean to come off weird or hurt your feelings. I do want to go on a date with you, I just had to get going, and today that guy just sat down himself, and I was so worried about the test that I kind of zoned out so I didn't see you come in. I'm really sorry." She said sincerely, touching his arm gently. Derek leaned over and kissed her cheek softly and she smiled. "So maybe tomorrow, we could go on a dinner date? I could pick you up here around 7?" Derek asked. "Sounds lovely." She smiled, and the two stood up, and Casey walked him to the door.

The next night Derek nervously walked to her dorm room, all dressed up in a black suit. He knocked on her door, and a minute later Casey careful opened her door, and Derek became speechless. Casey looked beautiful in light pink dress with black heels and her hair down and curled. Casey noticed his silent staring, "What?" She asked self-consciously, looking down at her appearance. "Nothing, you just look gorgeous." Derek said quietly, and Casey blushed.

The two had a wonderful dinner and then returned to Derek's dorm room, which was luckily just him for the night, as his roommate went home for the weekend. Casey was very nervous and sat on his bed lightly. Derek loosened his tie, and took off his jacket before joining her on the bed. "I had fun tonight." He said honestly turning to Casey. "Me too." She agreed. The two silently stared at each other for a moment, and when Derek noticed Casey biting her lip and looking at his, he took a chance and reach over and kissed her on the lips. He was delighted to find her kiss back. Derek grabbed her and pulled her closer, and they deepened the kiss. Casey grabbed a handful of his hair and kissed him hard, catching Derek by surprise. He didn't know she could kiss like this, but he liked it. They eventually laid down on the bed, continuing to kiss, but going no further, and eventually the two were just holding each other. Derek eventually dozed off and Casey took this opportunity and she quickly slipped out of his embrace and left his room and returned to her own room.

The next morning Derek woke to find just himself in the bed. He looked around and there was no sign of Casey, he found himself a little hurt that she left, not even leaving a note or sending him a text. He wanted to make sure she was okay, so he quickly got up, got dressed, and headed to her dorm room. When he knocked on her door, Casey's very tired roommate opened the door and to his dismay, informed him Casey was not there and she wasn't sure where she was.

At this point Derek was a little concerned. He tried calling and texting her but his efforts were fruitless. He sighed, and decided to give it a break and decided to go for a walk to take a break. As he walked down the path, he found a familiar girl sitting on a bench alone. As he got closer, he found the girl was Casey, he jogged the rest of the way up to her. "Casey!" He called, and she looked up at him. He soon reached the bench and plopped down next to her. "Where have you been? I've been trying to find you all day! I was getting really worried." Casey's face remained blank while she replied, "Derek I don't think we should do this." Derek was completely caught off guard, "W-what do you mean?" He asked, hoping he had just misheard her. Reading his mind she replied, "You heard me. I don't think we should date or talk anymore." Derek was very confused, "Why?" Casey remained silent and wouldn't look up at him. Derek took two fingers under her chin and pulled her face to look up at him. "Casey. Talk to me." He said gently, and to his surprise he found that her eyes had grown glassy, tears threatening to spill over. "I just don't want to get hurt. I don't think I can be like your past girls." She whispered, her voice barely audible. "What are you talking about? You know I would never hurt you." Derek said, now completely confused. "Well you're dangerous. You like new, exciting, dangerous, mysterious, sexy girls. Well I've been trying that and it's not working for me. I'm really falling for you and I know if we get more involved and you break my heart, it's going to take a long time for me to recover, if I even do recover." She said in a quiet voice. Derek smiled, suddenly understanding her attitude and actions the past few days. "Case, I don't want any other girl, just you. I don't want to be dangerous, I want to be yours, I would never break your heart. And trust me you are plenty of those things you listed." He said sincerely. "Especially the sexy." He added with a smirk.

Casey smiled and covered her face with her hands. Derek slowly removed her hands from her face, but kept a hold of them. "I'm serious. Do you trust me?" He asked seriously, and Casey nodded slowly, a smile growing on her face. Derek smiled back and pulled her into a deep kiss which she quickly kissed back with a smile.

End of Flashback

Today Derek knew that he was quite a lucky guy, his beautiful girlfriend was quirky, mysterious, sexy to name a few things.

Casey was Derek's own little danger.
