She felt the pit settle deep into her stomach, as if she had just been punched, hard. She took a deep breath and stood up. She grabbed her bag, and flung on her coat.

She gave him one last look before heading out of his apartment door. She walked slowly outside, feeling like she was in a calm parallel universe. Her relationship of a year was officially over. And despite the fact that she was sad, she smiled. She walked with a bounce in her step.

She saw this weight fall off of her shoulders. She was free to do whatever she wanted. She could date, she could be single, she could travel, she could go home.

She knew she would be okay, because at least she had two older brothers to take care of her and her heartbreak.
