Five Years Later

Part 77

With as chaotic as it seemed at the shoot, it wasn't surprising that Blaine wasn't told Kurt had been in the vicinity till they were wrapping for the day. If they hadn't been in such a public setting, Sebastian was pretty certain Blaine would've started yelling about being kept in the dark from the look on his face as he and Vincent spoke. It must've been pretty noticeable since Jeff kept glancing over at Sebastian, who shook his head. "You knew this was going to be his reaction Sebastian. The only thing you can do now is help him relax once you two get home so he can get some rest." Sebastian glanced over at Jeff and it was clear he was refraining from rolling his eyes at Jeff's words. "Yea, I know you know, but still. It wasn't up to you."

"I know that." Sebastian replied while keeping an eye on Blaine. "Just as I understand Vincent's reasoning behind it. The difference is that I knew how Blaine was going to react as he hates being protected, especially from Kurt."

"You voiced your concern, that's all you could do." Jeff told him. "If you said anything else and risked upsetting Vincent, he could see to it things like this are kept more private." Sebastian sighed as he leaned his head back as he knew Jeff was right. "And while Blaine is upset right now, it'll pass as he knows Vincent was doing his job. Now, what are your plans when the two of you leave here?"

"We're actually going over to my, soon to be our place as it's closer to the venue."

"Wait, the renovations are done?"

"They are as most everything done was cosmetic." Sebastian said. "And while we were here today, my Mom went over to B's and got a bunch of the boxes he'd packed up so we don't have to worry about them."

"Nice, just make sure Blaine doesn't decide he wants to start unpacking them."

"Don't worry; I'll see to it that unpacking is the furthest thing on B's mind." When Jeff smirked, Sebastian smiled. "What are yours and Morgan's plans?"

"After getting something to eat, we'll probably relax…take a nap. Our plans aren't that different from yours and Blaine's." Jeff told him. "Looks like Blaine calmed down a bit."

"He did, but he's still frustrated. So, if you don't mind I'm going to go and check on him since it looks as though he's going to change. I'll see you tonight man."

"See you tonight." Jeff replied as Sebastian stood to walk away. Once he was gone, he took his phone from his pocket to send a text to Morgan who'd long since vanished to change.

When Sebastian walked into the closed tent Blaine was changing in, he smiled at the sight before him as Blaine was bent over wearing only a pair of boxer briefs. "You don't have to get dressed on my account." Sebastian said as he sat down in a chair. At the sound of Sebastian's voice, Blaine looked back over his shoulder once he stood. "I'm serious B."

"I'll give you a similar look once we get home if you like." Blaine told him as he reached for the jeans he'd worn that morning. "You see, I need clothes on so I don't draw attention on the way home."

"Fair enough." Sebastian replied as Blaine continued dressing. "How are you feeling about everything as Jeff and I saw how pissed you looked at Vincent?"

"I'm getting better by the moment as I know he was only doing his job. The last thing they needed was for me to get distracted. What did you think of the shoot?"

"From what we saw, I loved it. I'm curious how it's all going to be pieced together." While he spoke, Sebastian got up from his chair and walked up behind Blaine, wrapping his arms around him as he now had a shirt on. "Also, the chemistry between Brittany and the guy she was paired with was off the charts. While all the pairings worked, their chemistry was the strongest."

"Justin half-heartedly noticed the same thing." Blaine replied as he relaxed in Sebastian's arms. "I think it frustrated him a bit since he'd asked me to introduce them." He then looked back again till he could kiss Sebastian. "Do you mind if we finish talking at home as I just want to get out of here?"

"Not at all Killer." Sebastian said before pressing a kiss to his perfectly styled curls. "If you want, we can order in so we don't have to do anything till you have to leave tonight."

"That sounds perfect to me Bas as right now all I want is to curl up with you and relax."

When the two finally were ready to head home, the crew was still in the process of breaking down the last of the gear. It wasn't much of a surprise when Vincent walked up to them with Scott looking on. Nor was the fact that he wanted to make sure Blaine was alright after how he'd reacted. Blaine was quick to explain that it was more about being kept in the dark than about what he was told. And from what he knew of Blaine, that didn't surprise him in the slightest. So once he knew that Blaine was alright, he called Scott over to escort the duo home.

By the time they reached Sebastian's building, it couldn't have been soon enough as Blaine had begun to doze off against Sebastian's shoulder. After being handed Blaine's guitar which was in the trunk, Scott watched as the two made their way inside. While he might've gone in previously, security had recently changed in the building so they reassured him they'd be alright, even text once they got inside Knowing Blaine was going to be living in such a secure building, certainly put a lot of peoples' minds at ease with what was about to happen.

Considering they were going to be seeing the renovations for the first time, Blaine texted Scott before they even walked inside knowing they were probably going to be distracted once they were inside. "Ready to do this Killer?" Sebastian asked with his hand on the handle. Blaine smiled up at him as he nodded prompting Sebastian to turn the handle and open the door. The first thing they noticed was the paint color as it was so different from the taupe that had been there. "I like it." Sebastian said as he closed the door behind them before locking it.

"Me too." Blaine replied as Sebastian took his hand as they walked further in. Once they reached the end of the hall, they both stopped, taking in the sight before them. "The pictures didn't do it justice Bas." Blaine said as he continued to look around. "Wait…look at the shelves!" Sebastian looked towards what was once an unused space and saw full bookshelves. While that might not seem shocking, they were filled with a combination of both their belongings. "Your Mom unpacked those boxes."

"She certainly did along with mine." Sebastian said as they walked closer. "You're not upset, are you?"

"Not in the slightest." Blaine told him. "I wasn't looking forward to unpacking them. Plus, it's not as though there was anything in those boxes she shouldn't have seen." It was a moment later that Sebastian felt Blaine let go of his hand as he walked towards a piece of art on the wall.

"What is it B?" Sebastian had to ask as Blaine kept tilting his head back and forth.

"Take a good look Bas." Those words caused Sebastian to walk closer as they were in the area that had been set up for Blaine's music. "It's not only there for decoration." Sebastian looked at him and as he did, Blaine opened up his guitar case and soon held his guitar in hand. "It's a guitar rack." Blaine then slipped his guitar from Sebastian onto one of the holders. "That's incredible!"

"When she said she had a creative idea in mind of how to store your guitars, I never imagined something like this." Sebastian then kissed Blaine on the cheek as he had a huge smile on his face. "I take it you approve?" Blaine nodded enthusiastically before sliding his arm around Sebastian and leaning against him. "It certainly makes the place more us, doesn't it?"

"It does. I can't wait to thank her Bas."

"Well, you can do that tonight Killer since she wasn't going to miss seeing you perform at least once while she was in town. How about we go check out the rest of the place before we get you down for a nap?" When Blaine looked up at him, Sebastian smiled. "I'm serious B, you started to fall asleep in the car on the way here. We have to make sure you're good and rested for your show tonight."

"Any other reason I need to be good and rested?"

"Let's just say watching you perform all day had quite the impact on me and once we get home again later tonight, I plan on showing you."

"I guess we better finish looking as I've got a nap to take."

While this was happening, across in Brooklyn, Kurt got quite the surprise when he opened his apartment door to find his Dad standing before him. "What are you doing here?" He asked in shock upon setting eyes on him. "Come in." Kurt continued as he opened the door wider so his Dad could come in. "It's good to see you, but why didn't you call and tell me you were coming?"

"I didn't tell you as it was a rather last minute decision." Burt told him. "It had been some time since we saw one another."

"And let me guess, you want to talk about what Mr. Anderson had to say to you." Kurt retorted as he leaned back in the chair. "I don't know why as you never really got along with the Andersons while Blaine and I were married."

"I do actually as what he said hit a chord with me." Burt replied. "While we didn't necessarily get along, there isn't really a reason for him to say what he did."

"Are you saying you believe him?"

"No, I just want to know from you why he might've said what he did. Carole felt I wasn't going to be able to put everything in context till I spoke with you, in person."

"He's probably having a hard time believing that their supposedly, perfect little boy isn't so perfect. I think it's is rather hypocritical since they never seemed to really give a damn about him." Kurt told him. "And since Blaine is having a bit of success, his ego has grown if that's even possible." Once he finished, Kurt noticed his Dad tilt is head. "What, are you really surprised to hear me talk about him that way?"

"Not really considering the things you said about him while the two of you were divorcing. And well, I can understand some of it, I don't understand why you treated Mr. Smythe in the manner you did as you don't know him."

"He's Sebastian's Dad, that's all one has to know." Kurt replied. "Talk about being full of himself, no wonder Sebastian is such a pompous ass."

"Kurt."

"I know you don't like it when I talk about people that way, but it's true." When Kurt saw his Dad look at him, he smiled. "See, you think Mr. Smythe is arrogant as well. Is his Mom the same?"

"I'm not quite sure, but at one point later in the night Carole heard her out in the lobby on the phone rambling in some foreign language." Burt told him. "But enough about that, we need to talk Kurt as I want to know if something happened that I don't know about. I mean, when I called to speak with Rachel after what was said, she refused to talk about it."

"That's because she's now chummy with Blaine and that entire Dalton crew." Kurt told him. "I mean, she's even dating one of them. If I had to rate those boys, the only one more arrogant than the one she's dating, is Smythe."

"That doesn't seem like the type of boy Rachel would date considering her relationship with Finn."

"I know. But she doesn't want to listen to me about the type of person Thad Harwood really is." Kurt said in response before reaching for his remote and turning on his television. "Sorry Dad, but I want to see if there is any news about something that was going on at one of the parks today."

"That's fine." Burt replied. "Now, about Blaine."

Good Evening New York! Welcome back to your up to the minute news about the music scene in our fine city. If any of you were out enjoying this beautiful spring day, you might've caught a glimpse of our very own Blaine Anderson recording the video for his soon to be released single on the High Line. From the snippet I got to hear, he's going to blow us all away in his debut that is only weeks away. The closer we get to the release I will be giving out information as to how you can win tickets to the release party.

Jordan was still speaking when Kurt got up and began pacing his living room. Kurt watched as the segment continued including giving out where you could hear certain artists that evening. It didn't go unnoticed by Burt when Kurt snapped his head at the television upon hearing Blaine had a show that night. "It's hard for you seeing him having all this success, isn't it?"

"Why would you say that?" Kurt replied sharply.

"Considering he was struggling musically when the two of you were together and he was considering teaching from what you told me." Burt replied. "Yet now, he's performing all over the Northeast and is soon releasing an album."

"I don't understand how it happened." Kurt told his Dad as he continued to pace the room. "He was about to give up….I…it was so close." Burt looked at his son when he stammered but knew it happened once in a while when Kurt got emotional. "But now, everyone is fawning over him once again."

"He must've figured something out to be talked about on the news."

"That's Santana's girlfriend hosting that segment." Kurt said in a tone trying to diminish the impact of the segment.

"Still, she probably has a boss to report to. Now Kurt, please sit down again so we can talk." Kurt had to refrain from rolling his eyes before sitting down. After he was settled, the two looked at each other. "Were things worse between you and Blaine than what you told me?"

"At times." Kurt replied rather expressionlessly as he didn't want to give anything away. "We argued way more than I told you about. Why?"

"Curious, you know you could've told me."

"And if I had, I could've pictured you trying to fix things if I told you any sooner with as much as you liked him. But clearly I didn't think things were as bad as Blaine did. Afterall, he's the one that left me or did you forget that."

"From what Patrick said, Blaine saw everything very differently." Burt told him as he took his hat off his head in frustration.

"Of course he did as Blaine never accepts responsibility for what he does wrong. It's always someone else's fault."

"If you have such a strong dislike of him, why have you gone to see him perform?"

"I can't help it if my friends have been sucked into the bubble that is Blaine's talent. So, if I want to go out with them, I end up showing up at performances." And while Kurt knew that wasn't completely true, he wasn't going to tell his Dad. "That's why I reacted earlier as I'm going out tonight and had no idea Blaine is playing the bar we're intending on going to. But now that you're in town, I have a good excuse not to go."

"Go out with your friends Kurt. I came to town without letting you know, no reason you should change your plans."

"Please tell me you didn't book a hotel room, and that you're going to stay with me."

"I was hoping to, but I wasn't sure if I'd interrupt anything." Kurt had to admit he was a bit shocked by what his Dad said to him. "I mean, you did say you were dating."

"I appreciate the consideration Dad, but the relationship is still pretty new so you're safe. Now, how about we get you settled in my room." With everything that he'd been told along with Kurt's tone, Burt decided that he needed to see Blaine for himself since his own son had been avoiding his questions. And since no one seemed to have Blaine's current address, knowing Blaine was performing that night was all he needed.

Considering how things had gone during the video shoot after Blaine had introduce Justin to Brittany, he wasn't surprised in the slightest to get a text from Sebastian telling him that Brittany had arrived with Quinn that evening. Normally Sebastian liked to be backstage before shows now that the venues were getting bigger, but with his Mom in attendance, he decided to wait with everyone else. Sebastian was quick to make introductions as there were a few new faces in attendance that evening. "When are you heading back to Ohio Mrs. Smythe?" Quinn asked.

"I'm leaving tomorrow evening." Victoria replied. "I hadn't booked my return till I knew Sebastian and Blaine were happy with what was done."

"Happy doesn't even begin to describe how we feel." Sebastian stated before kissing his Mom on her cheek. "We love it Mom, we truly do. You especially blew us both away with your design for Blaine's guitars."

"I'm so happy you boys love it as I felt you needed something special."

"What does it look like?" Rachel asked causing Victoria to glance at her son. "Sebastian?"

"It's a giant music staff with strategically placed notes." Sebastian told her. "Yet each note is actually a grip for one of Blaine's guitars to hang from. Once we get settled, we'll have you all over to see everything. Though, it might be a while as we have more of B's stuff to bring over."

"Just let us know when you need our help." Hunter chimed in with. "We all know the two of you are pretty anxious to stop the commute."

"That we are." When he spoke, Sebastian was a bit surprised to get nudged by his Mom. "It's okay Mom, if I tried to deny it, they'd all call me out on it. As for an actual date, I'm going to have to check with B. Though, I do know he wants to get it done before we all start that last study push for finales."

By the time Blaine took the stage, everyone had let Brittany know she was in for quite a treat that evening. It was something Brittany had been looking forward to all day after taking part in the video shoot. The show was about halfway over, when Sebastian slid his phone out of his pocket after feeling it vibrate. Upon reading a text from Scott that Kurt was in the building, he sighed before shaking his head. He only hoped that with everything that had happened, he was going to keep his distance even if he was there. After they finished their encore, Brittany was looking at everyone wide-eyed with the biggest smile on her face. "I take that look to mean you liked it Brittany?" Sebastian asked.

"Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!" Brittany replied enthusiastically. "Will we get to see him soon?"

"He actually asked me to bring you backstage when Jeff and I go back there." Sebastian told her.

"Aren't you taking your Mom too?"

"Yes, I'm taking my Mom too." Sebastian replied with a smile. "As for the rest of you, we will text you with the plan for the evening as usual." He then took a deep breath. "Also, Scott let me know that our least favorite person is also in attendance this evening so be on the lookout."

"You've got to be kidding me!" Rachel blurted out causing Thad to slide his arm around her.

"Rach, he's not something I joke about. Hell, I'd prefer to never talk about him again. So, since this is the first time most of you are seeing him since being told…remember what we talked about."

"What's going on?" Quinn asked as she looked at everyone as it was clear she wasn't the only one confused, Brittany was as well.

"I'll give you a cliff-note version of it later." Sebastian replied. "But first, I need to speak with B. So, Jeff…ladies, are you ready?"

"Yes." Jeff told him as Brittany nodded and his Mom looked up at him.

Once the four of them headed for the stage door, the mood at their tables took a serious turn. While they all knew it was only a matter of time till they saw him, they knew it wasn't going to be easy. "It's going to be okay Rach." Thad said softly before kissing her temple. Even though the words came out of his mouth, Thad himself wasn't sure if he believed what he said knowing how Rachel felt about the situation. Having the two come face to face at one of Blaine's shows was not how he wanted it to happen knowing Rachel's emotions would be a bit more raw.

While those in the venue kept an eye out for Kurt, Blaine was packing up his gear a bit quicker than usual since Scott had told him the instant he was off stage that Kurt was in attendance. His actions weren't going unnoticed by any member of his band who seemed to be moving a bit quicker as well. "Did you like the show Britt?" Blaine asked after closing one of his guitar cases.

"I really did! You sang some old Warbler songs."

"I certainly did." Blaine replied. "I added those songs to my repertoire shortly after I reconnected with the guys."

"You also sang to Sebastian."

"Did I?" Blaine responded with a smile before winking at Sebastian.

"Yes, and he got this big smile every time you did."

"Busted!" Justin said with a smile earning him a glance from Sebastian, but unlike the look he expected, Sebastian was smiling.

"And here I thought those looks went unnoticed." Sebastian replied.

"They don't dear." Victoria told him. "Everyone can see how in love you are with Blaine when he sings, especially when it's directed at you." Sebastian shook his head at his Mom before wrapping his arms around Blaine from behind and leaning over his shoulder for a kiss.

"What can I say, it's true." Sebastian said softly. "Is everyone still up for grabbing a bite to eat?"

"Sounds good to me." Talia replied before the others answered in the same manner. "Will you be joining us Brittany?"

"Everyone else is going, right Blaine?"

"Yes, everyone else is going." Blaine told her. "Plus, I know someone in this room in particular would like you to join us even if the others weren't." Considering what Justin had said to Sebastian, Blaine turning the tables on him was to be expected. "Isn't that right Justin?"

"Yes, you're right Blaine." His response brought a smile to Brittany's face as she looked over at him.

Once they were finally packed up, it wasn't much longer till they were heading on their way. "You okay B?" Sebastian asked quietly as they made their way down the alley with Victoria beside them. Blaine didn't speak, only gave Sebastian's hand a squeeze. "Scott, are you sure the car can't fit down here?"

"I'm positive, sorry guys." After he spoke, Sebastian sighed before glancing over at his Mom who gave him a reassuring smile. "Blaine, you should know there are quite a few people waiting for you." Blaine nodded once again before taking a deep breath. Considering this was a setting similar to one of the last times he saw Kurt, he was feeling more uneasy than he was letting on. Once he took his next step, he was stopped by Scott who was walking ahead of them. "There is an older gentleman that wants to speak with you Blaine." Blaine tilted his head, but remembered that part of the team was already waiting at the car.

"Do you have the name of this gentleman?" Blaine asked upon noticing Scott had his ear bud in.

"Burt Hummel." Scott replied after a moment as he had to ask. "Is that any relation to your ex?"

"It's his Dad." That was all Blaine needed to say for Sebastian to move in front of him and take ahold of both of his hands. "What is he doing here Bas? Why is this happening?"

"I…I don't know B. You don't have to talk to him if you don't want to."

"Sebastian is right Blaine, you don't have to." Scott reassured him.

"Would you like me to speak with him Blaine?" Victoria asked as she placed a hand on his shoulder. "I wouldn't mind."

"Why don't the rest of you go ahead, okay?" Blaine said as he looked back at his band.

"Blaine." Jeff said with a bit of hesitation. "You don't need to do this, Sebastian is right."

"I know, but I'm curious as to what he wants to talk to me about." Blaine replied. "It must be something for him to have come all the way from Ohio."

"We can stay Blaine." Todd told him.

"I appreciate that, but this is something I need to do mostly on my own. Go, have fun as you all deserve it with as hard as you worked today." Blaine then turned his head towards Justin who was next to Brittany. "I trust the rest of you will look out for Britt till everyone else arrives."

"Of course." Justin told him. "Let's get a move on guys, as the sooner Blaine talks to this gentleman, the sooner they join us." It was clear the rest of Blaine's band didn't want to leave him, but they relented. Before doing so, each of the girls kissed Blaine on the cheek before heading down the alley.

"Could you go get him for me Scott as this is something I'd prefer to do without a lot of people around?"

"I'll have them send him down this way Blaine." After Scott responded, Sebastian released his hold on Blaine's hands and pulled him into a hug since they were far enough out of sight.

"You know he's going to ask about what your Dad said B." Sebastian whispered into Blaine's hair.

"I know." Blaine replied before resting his head against Sebastian's chest. "What I don't know, is what I'm going to say." He then glanced up at Sebastian who pressed a kiss to his forehead before looking at Victoria. "You must hate that I got Bas caught up in all this."

"Blaine dear, I hate that this is happening to both of you." Victoria told him. "This is something that is out of your control. And if I asked Sebastian, if he had to choose dealing with this or not being with you, there would be no choice."

"She's right Killer." While the words were leaving his mouth, Scott cleared his throat as they now had company. "You can do this." Sebastian told him before kissing him once more, prior to moving beside him, holding him securely around his waist."

"It's been a long time Blaine." Burt said as Scott stepped back a bit to give them some privacy.

"That it has." Blaine replied. "What brings you to New York Mr. Hummel?"

"You can still call me Burt, you know."

"It doesn't feel appropriate anymore." Blaine told him. "Now, what can I do for you?"

"The two of us need to talk Blaine, in private."

"Anything you want to say to me, you can say in front of Sebastian and his Mom." Blaine then noticed a change in Burt's expression. "Oh, how rude of me. Mr. Hummel, this is my boyfriend, Sebastian Smythe, and his Mom, Victoria. But, the two of you have already met." Victoria and Burt nodded in acknowledgement. "What is it you would like to talk about, or do I already know?"

"Your parents told you about what happened?" Burt replied, slightly shocked.

"Of course they did, as did my brother along with Bas's parents. Is that really so surprising?"

"A bit, if I'm being honest. I don't remember you being too close to your parents when you and Kurt were married."

"I was closer to my parents than Kurt believed I was. While we've clearly butted heads over the years, those times are past us. Yet since Kurt didn't like them, he didn't acknowledge our relationship had changed."

"I didn't know that."

"How would you?"

"What is it you want to speak with Blaine about Mr. Hummel?" Sebastian asked as he looked at him.

"It's something I'd prefer to speak to him in private about Sebastian."

"If you want to discuss what my Dad said to you at the benefit, there is no need for Bas or Victoria to leave as they know all about what occurred while I was married to Kurt."

"Blaine, do you really want to do this in front of them?"

"Do what?" Blaine replied. "I have nothing to hide anymore."

"Fine, why did you lie to your parents about what happened while you and Kurt were married?"

"I didn't."

"Blaine, there is no way Kurt would've done those things to you."

"Excuse me?" Sebastian blurted out, shocked by what he heard. "You clearly don't know your son Mr. Hummel. Not to mention, you weren't there."

"Why don't you stay out of this Sebastian as it doesn't concern you?"

"It concerns me, because it concerns Blaine." Sebastian snapped causing his Mom to place her hand on his back. "And you clearly don't know your son."

"Bas, I've got this." Blaine told him rather confidently as he looked up at him. "But Bas is correct Mr. Hummel…" He said as he focused his attention back on Burt. "You don't know Kurt as well as you may think. He's not the same person anymore."

"Blaine, I'm sorry but I know my boy and he's not that type of person or capable of that sort of behavior."

"Well, you weren't there when it was happening. Kurt has changed in quite a few ways."

"He'd never change that much Blaine."
