Five Years Later
Part 78
While the four were down the alley, the rest of their friends had made their way out of the venue and spotted Blaine's band loading their things up. The closer they got, they noticed Blaine and Sebastian were nowhere to be found. Considering the way security was set, Thad called out for Jeff to come closer so they could talk. The moment Jeff told him where Blaine was, Thad's eyes bugged out as that was the last thing he expected to hear. "How could you have left him?" Thad asked quietly before glancing back at Rachel who was talking with Quinn.
"I had no choice as Blaine asked his band to leave him as he didn't want to speak with Mr. Hummel with an audience." Jeff told him. "But you should know Sebastian, and his Mom are with him so he's not alone. This is not the ending of a day Blaine deserves Thad. I mean, the video shoot was an incredible experience and he played one hell of a show. Yet he can't seem to escape his former life."
"Ain't that the truth?" Thad replied. "I can't believe he had the nerve to show up here tonight."
"Really?" Jeff said as he tilted his head. "Nothing he does should surprise us anymore. But I wish we knew why his Dad wants to speak with Blaine."
"I guess we'll have to wait and see."
The two were still talking when they noticed a change in Hunter's demeanor. It was only a matter of moments later when Thad made his way to Rachel's side as Kurt was approaching her. "What do you want?" Rachel snapped as Kurt made his way between she and Quinn.
"We need to talk Rachel."
"No we don't, as I have nothing left to say to you."
"You heard the lady, now leave her alone." Thad stated as he wrapped his arm around Rachel.
"Stay out of his Harwood!"
"Not. Going to. Happen." Thad told him. "So, how about you go and take your Dad along with you."
"My Dad?" Kurt replied, earning Thad a look from those around him, especially Rachel.
"Thad, what's going on?" Rachel asked as he looked up at him.
"Notice how Blaine isn't with the rest of his band?" Rachel nodded. "That's because he's down the alley with Sebastian and Mrs. Smythe, speaking with Kurt's Dad."
"No!" Kurt yelled bring attention to him. "That can't be happening!"
"Afraid Daddy is going to find out who you really are?" Hunter arrogantly remarked as he'd joined them the moment he heard Thad say where Blaine was. "What you did?" Kurt was about to move when Hunter continued. "Do you really think Blaine's security team is going to let you anywhere near him?"
"Hunter is right Kurt." Rachel said to him. "You're not going to be able to stop Blaine from telling your Dad what you did. And if he doesn't believe him, I'll sure as hell tell him all about how you tried to hit Blaine on New Year's Eve. That's one incident you can't deny as there were so many witnesses. It's also the one that made everything Blaine told us slightly less shocking if that's possible."
"You wouldn't?" Kurt replied.
"I would. I might not have been able to help Blaine back when the two of you were married, but I certainly can help him now. It's about time Burt finds out who you've turned into."
"Can't you see they've turned you against me Rachel?"
"They've done no such thing, you did that yourself." Rachel told him. "You lied to me for so many years Kurt. I can't believe I was such an idiot to believe most of what you said. To even consider some of the things you said about Blaine."
"He's not a saint Rachel."
"I know he's not, but he's not the person you tried to make him out to be."
The longer this conversation went on, the others were relieved that the crowd had started to thin out when Blaine had yet to appear. Rachel was still managing to keep it together which impressed the guys as they knew how badly she was hurting. With gear needing to be dropped off before they went out to eat, the rest of the band headed off. When Blaine still hadn't appeared twenty minutes later, everyone was beginning to get anxious. The only thing stopping them from trying to get to him, was knowing Sebastian was with him. Since Jeff knew the security better than the rest of them, besides Sebastian, he went to go and speak to the two that were blocking the alleyway.
When he returned, Hunter stepped off to the side to speak to him since there was no way Thad was leaving Rachel's side. Jeff was quick to tell him that they were still down the alley talking and that Scott was there as well. That was a bit of information that helped make them feel a bit better as they knew Scott would step in if needed. "Are you really that worried about what Blaine might be telling him?" Thad asked since Kurt was still there with them and seemed quite tense.
"Why would I be worried?"
"They've been talking for a long time." Thad told him, and as the words left his mouth Victoria appeared and began talking with the two members of Blaine's security team. "Looks like you'll be seeing them soon." All eyes were soon on the alleyway, curious about what was going to happen. Then once they spotted Scott they knew Blaine had to be close and he was. Yet he didn't even look at anyone as Scott escorted him right into his car and closed the door after him before getting into the front. "Hunter, something's not right."
"I was thinking the same thing." Hunter replied before walking towards where Victoria was standing as Blaine's car pulled away. "Mrs. Smythe, what's going on?"
"What are you doing here still Hunter?" Victoria asked before looking around and seeing that the others were still there as well.
"Jeff told us what was happening when we asked where Blaine and Sebastian were, and then shortly after Kurt appeared." When she leaned her head back and took a deep breath, Hunter knew that couldn't be good. "Where is Sebastian since he didn't leave with Blaine?"
"He's still speaking with Mr. Hummel as he had a few things he wanted to set straight with him." Victoria then took a deep breath. "And Blaine couldn't take the conversation anymore, as most of what he was saying was being dismissed. Needless to say, that didn't sit well with Sebastian as you can imagine." While she spoke, they could hear raised voices coming from down the alley. That was all it took for the two of them to quickly head down towards them.
"Are you freaking delusional?" Sebastian spat out. "What the hell does Blaine have to gain from doing this?"
"Sympathy after what he did to my boy."
"Your boy…HA! Why don't I show you just what kind of boy your son really is Mr. Hummel?"
"And what do you mean by that?"
"Oh, I've got proof of the months long affair he was having while they were married. Your boy isn't as innocent as he'd like you to think he is. He's actually…"
"Sebastian." Victoria stated as she came up behind him. "Sebastian!" Sebastian turned his head and saw his Mom along with Hunter. "Enough."
"Enough! This man flat out called Blaine a liar when he's not." Sebastian then turned his focus to Burt once more. "How could you not see how hard it is for him to talk about it?"
"Sebastian, I can see it, you don't have to convince me." Victoria told him reassuringly, as Burt seemed to be in a bit of shock by Sebastian's behavior. "You need to go home; Blaine needs you as he shouldn't be alone right now."
"Your Mom is right man; Blaine didn't look good when he left." Hunter chimed in with. "And so you know, Kurt is with everyone else."
"That's it!" Sebastian snapped before taking off down the alley with Hunter hot on his trail. Burt and Victoria took off after them as it was obvious nothing good was going to come from it. Thankfully though, Blaine's security was able to stop Sebastian before he could get near him. "Why can't you just leave him alone?" Sebastian yelled as security held him tight. "You son-of-a-bitch!" The look Sebastian had in his eyes had everyone on edge as they'd never seen him like this, that is everyone. Even Kurt was in shock by what he was seeing and was even more so when he saw his Dad behind him. Victoria and Hunter were doing what they could to try and calm Sebastian down which seemed like an impossible task as security held him back.
When Burt walked towards Kurt, Rachel moved closer to Thad as seeing Sebastian lose his composure was too much for her. "Rachel." Burt said as he looked at her in Thad's arms.
"Burt." Rachel replied before glancing over to where security was helping Victoria and Hunter get Sebastian into an awaiting car.
"Dad, what are you doing here?" Kurt asked as he looked at him.
"I decided I'd try and talk with Blaine about what his Dad said." Burt replied. "But we can talk about that back at your place. After our talk, its clear things weren't exactly how you described." When Rachel scoffed, Burt looked at her. "Have something you want to say Rachel?"
"Considering how angry Sebastian is, I have a feeling Blaine told you exactly what happened and you didn't believe him."
"Rachel, you don't know what Blaine told me." Burt said to her rather pointedly.
"I bet he told you the truth, a truth you don't want to hear."
"Rachel, stay out of this!" Kurt told her, which only seemed to raise her ire more.
"NO!" The tone of her voice was enough to let Thad know that she was close to her breaking point. "I'm not going to stand by and let you hurt Blaine anymore!"
"Rachel, Kurt's not capable of doing the things Blaine said." Burt told her.
"I didn't think so either but I was there on New Year's Eve when he tried to hit Blaine. If it wasn't for Hunter, he would've hit him. All Blaine had done in that moment was admit he was dating Sebastian. Sam saw it as well. Hell, a lot of people saw it but you only know Sam and I." Hearing that admission from Rachel certainly caught Burt's attention, as he was soon looking at Kurt.
"Is that true Kurt?" Burt asked, shocked once again by something he'd heard.
"Yes, but there is more to the story than what Rachel is telling you." Kurt told him.
"Ain't that the truth?" Thad retorted earning him a look from Burt. "It's true sir, I was there as was Jeff. Besides us, there were at least ten other people that witnessed it. While there is more to the story, your son was the instigator as Blaine and Sebastian were about to leave."
"Should we add in when he confronted Blaine when he was out with my girlfriend?" Jeff stated. "He clearly can't leave Blaine alone since his life is coming together again. Kurt could've walked right passed the two of them, but didn't. Instead he confronted them and accused them of things that weren't true."
"Stay out of this Sterling!" Kurt snapped at him.
"I don't think so. You know, I bet Wes and Nick would love to be here to be a part of all this as I know the two of them have things they'd love to say to you, especially Wes."
"Kurt, I think it's time we leave." Burt stated as he looked at his son who clearly was uncomfortable in the setting.
"We've been telling him that since he got here." Thad blurted out earning him a look from Burt. "Or any other time he's shown up at one of Blaine's shows."
"It's clear we've got a long talk ahead of us." Kurt reluctantly nodded before shooting a glare at Rachel as he never expected her to say what she did to Burt even though she said she would. Burt then said goodbye to Rachel before he and Kurt headed off in the opposite direction.
"Would someone mind filling me in on what the hell is going on?" Quinn asked as Jeff went to hail a cab as he knew the others would be waiting for them.
"While I'd love to, we can't." Rachel replied. "It's a story that's up to Blaine to share with you. Speaking of, is he going to be alright?" Her attention then went to Thad.
"I don't know Rach." Thad said before pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "But if anyone can help him, it's Sebastian."
"Even with as upset as he was?" Quinn asked before the four of them got into the cab as the others had left a few minutes prior.
"Yes, as even with as crazy as everything you witnessed just seemed, they both know what the other needs." Thad told her. "But I'd say it's pretty clear those two won't be joining the rest of us."
Thad's words were on the mark as once Hunter escorted Sebastian up to his apartment, they were met by Scott who was standing by the door. After Hunter received reassurances from Sebastian that the two would stay home, he headed off as he was going to drop Mrs. Smythe off at her hotel before going to meet the others. Sebastian tried to tell Scott he could leave, but Scott told him he wasn't going anywhere after what happened. When Sebastian made his way inside the apartment, it was relatively dark as the city lights were the only thing illuminating it. He called out for Blaine a few times, but didn't get a response making him feel a bit sick.
The moment Sebastian reached the master bedroom it disappeared as he saw Blaine sitting up in bed wearing his Columbia t-shirt and a pair of sweats while flipping through the channels. "Feeling better?" Blaine asked as he glanced over at him.
"Not really." Sebastian replied as he made his way into the room. "I'm sorry B." He said as he sat down on the edge of the bed. "I really tried to keep it together but, I couldn't take it anymore. I was half expecting you not to be here considering how I behaved."
"You don't have to apologize Bas, honest." Blaine told him as he felt Sebastian's hand on his leg. "You kept it together better than I expected you to when he started saying how incapable Kurt was of doing any of those things. As for me being here, are you really that surprised?"
"Part of me thought you might actually go home after my outburst. Hell, you might still want to once I tell you what I said to him after you left." When Blaine tilted his head to the side, Sebastian sighed. "I told Burt that we have proof of the affair and that the photos prove Kurt isn't quite so innocent."
"Bas."
"I'm sorry B, but I couldn't take it anymore." While he spoke, Sebastian began rubbing Blaine's leg. "By the way, my t-shirt looks good on you even if it's a bit big."
"I wanted something that smelt like you as it helps calm my nerves. Technically you calm my nerves but you weren't here."
"I guess it's a good thing we put comfortable clothes on after your video shoot." Blaine nodded before settling back into the pillows. "Do you mind if I join you?" Blaine said no, and then told him he'd been hoping that he would. "Hunter is going to let everyone know you changed your mind."
"That's good; I also called Justin to let him know as well." Blaine replied as he watched Sebastian change. "I feel bad about it since Brittany is with them, but I wouldn't be the best company. So, we're doing brunch tomorrow with everyone."
"That works for me." Sebastian replied before getting onto the bed beside Blaine. "Care to tell me why your laptop is in here as you tend to only bring it in here when you're working."
"I Skyped my parents, or more precisely my Dad, shortly after I got here." Blaine told him. "My Mom was sound asleep so the phone didn't wake her so my Dad decided against waking her. A decision he felt stronger about once we spoke."
"Did you tell him Burt didn't believe you?"
"I did, and that only pissed him off more. I don't envy him telling my Mom in the morning. After everything that's happened, he's calling a lawyer in the morning to see if there is anything we can do to keep Kurt away from me." When Sebastian cocked his eyebrow, Blaine leaned against him. "He doesn't want to take advantage of your Dad's offer to help."
"He wouldn't be taking advantage of him B, trust me." While he spoke, Sebastian wrapped his arm around him, pulling him closer. "Not to mention I'm pretty sure he's going to get a call in the morning as my Mom was going to call my Dad once she got back to her hotel. She's pissed B. She can understand him being hesitant about believing you, but seeing how broken you were while speaking he had to know it's true."
"One would think so, but I guess he doesn't want to believe it's possible that it's true." Blaine then glanced up at Sebastian. "Do you see me as broken Bas?" Sebastian sighed softly, before sitting upright, letting Blaine settle back into the pillows once again.
"You're not broken B." Sebastian told him while caressing his cheek. "That was a poor choice of words on my part. It would've been better for me to say how hard it was for you to talk about it. You believe me, don't you?"
"I do, but I do feel broken when I talk about it." When Blaine looked into Sebastian's eyes, the hazel eyes Sebastian loved seemed less vibrant than usual. "Hell, it took a part of me Bas…he took a part of me that I'm not sure I'll ever get back." Sebastian had to blink back tears as he hated seeing Blaine like this.
"B, you got back what you needed. Your belief in yourself along with the fact that you weren't the person he said." Sebastian told him as he scooted closer. "If I ask you something, promise me you won't get upset?" Blaine nodded. "When was the last time you saw your therapist?"
"A few weeks ago." Blaine replied. "I should probably make an appointment with everything that's going on."
"That would probably be a good idea B, especially with what recently happened. Who knows what's going to happen now that you and Burt have spoken." Blaine then ran his fingers through his hair. "Remember, your divorce decree protects you."
"I'm sick of having to be protected Bas. I want to be able to live my life without looking over my shoulder."
"I know. Hopefully it's only for a little bit longer, at least with most of it revolving around your ex. I mean, you do know if everything happens as we hope you're going to be protected."
"That I do know. Here I thought divorcing him would get him out of my life."
"It did B. You becoming successful is what brought him back as he can't handle it."
"Him not being able to handle it shouldn't be my problem yet it is." Blaine said to him clearly frustrated. "Hell, it's your problem along with a lot of other peoples as well." While Blaine spoke, Sebastian moved so he was straddling Blaine's lap. "That's the last thing I wanted Bas."
"I know B." Sebastian told him as he caressed his cheek. "This isn't your fault, none of it."
"But this wouldn't be happening to any of you if it wasn't for me."
"B, do you remember what my Mom said to you, do you?" Blaine nodded. "It's true as I will gladly deal with his crap if it means you're a part of my life. I love you Blaine and nothing he does or says will change that."
"But you shouldn't have to."
"And neither should you." Blaine sighed softly as Sebastian ran his thumb over his cheek bone. "We'll get through this B…together." Sebastian then leaned in and kissed him. "And while I'd love to handle this on our own, we're clearly going to need some help."
"I know, that's why I called my Dad."
"And why I had no problem with my Mom calling my Dad. We'll figure this out B."
"I sure hope so Bas as I want to focus on the positive things that are happening."
"As do I B, as do I."
While the two of them were talking, Hunter finally arrived at the diner they were all meeting at. It wasn't much of a surprise that all eyes were on him when he walked in. "How are they?" Rachel asked as Hunter took a seat.
"I don't know as I left Sebastian at the door and Blaine was already inside as Scott was standing out front of the apartment."
"According to Blaine, the reason he wasn't coming is that he wouldn't be the best company." Justin said. "What the hell happened after we left Hunter?"
"Blaine's ex-husband's father wanted to speak with him about some things he found out that occurred while the two were married." Hunter told them before ordering some coffee. "And, he didn't believe what Blaine told him, he essentially called Blaine a liar."
"That would explain why Sebastian was so angry." Jeff said before glancing at Morgan. "But Rachel might've helped in that regard."
"How?" Hunter asked as he doctored up his coffee.
"Burt said that Kurt was incapable of doing the things Blaine accused him of." Rachel said. "So, I couldn't help but tell him about what happened on New Year's Eve."
"What happened to Blaine on New Year's Eve?" Brittany asked from her spot between Justin and Talia. Rachel looked at the guys who all nodded.
"Kurt tried to hit him Britt after finding out that he was dating Sebastian." Rachel told her. "I was shocked."
"I know Kurt doesn't like Sebastian, but that doesn't give him the right to hit Blaine because he's dating him now."
"We agree Britt." Quinn told her. "Kurt's also not happy that since they got divorced, Blaine's career has taken off."
"That's not Blaine's fault."
"We know." Thad said. "But that hasn't stopped him from becoming a nuisance in Blaine's life. And the fact that he's with Sebastian only adds to it."
"Since they are divorced, why does Kurt care?"
"Because he's a control freak." Rachel stated, surprising those around them. "Ever since Blaine started to make a name for himself, Kurt's tried to get close to him."
"That doesn't make sense."
"No, it doesn't." Morgan told her. "That's why the rest of us have stopped trying to make sense of it. The only thing we can do, is try and keep him away from Blaine. And his label is doing what they can in that regard. But there is only so much they can do."
"Well, after what just happened I have a feeling more is going to happen." Hunter said to them.
"Why?" Todd asked.
"Sebastian's Mom was calling his Dad after she got back to the hotel and Sebastian's Dad is a lawyer, a very good one. So if someone can find a way to keep Kurt away, it's Mr. Smythe."
The next morning when Blaine and Sebastian awoke, neither was surprised to find messages from their parents. Yet neither was quite ready to start dealing with the situation once again as they curled up together. While they knew they had to start getting ready to meet everyone for brunch, there was so much more going through their minds. Not only did they know they had to speak with their parents, but Blaine was going to be talking with Sam later that day. Timing clearly could've been better but they'd made plans for this conversation over a week in advance.
By the time they came back into the bedroom from their shower, Blaine sat on the edge of the bed as his phone was blinking once again. "This is what I was talking about Bas; it's starting to overshadow everything." Blaine stated before tossing his phone aside. "I'm about to graduate and release my first single yet I have to deal with my ex-husband." While he spoke, Sebastian stepped before him and secured his towel around his waist, and then lifted Blaine's head so he was looking at him.
"I thought a bit about all this and after losing my cool last night, we can't let him take our focus B."
"Yet we have to deal with this."
"True, but it can't be our focus. Our focus needs to be us and your career, not on the annoyance Hummel has become." Sebastian told him. "In a matter of weeks B, your life is going to change in the most amazing way. That needs to be the focus. If we focus on Hummel, we're giving him the control he wants."
"I hate that this is happening Bas. I thought that once we were divorced, I was done with him. That I would no longer have to deal with what he did to me. Yet now, that seems to be all I'm doing."
"But now the truth is out there B, he can't play all innocent as too many people know the truth. Even Rachel sees him for the person he's become. And while I know you didn't want her ending her friendship with him, it was good for her. You can't deny it as you know he never would've stood by and let her be with Thad who makes her happy."
"That's true." Blaine replied while taking Sebastian's hands in his. "I only hope that he doesn't try to ruin things for her now that she cut him from her life."
"You're talking about her upcoming debut."
"I am, as I could so see him playing mind games with her."
"Well, you should know she's well aware of that, as is Thad. That's why she hasn't told him which show she is doing."
"But it won't be long as the marquee is going to change." Blaine said to him.
"They know, but you should also remember that Thad is going to keep an eye on her B. She's got plenty of people that are looking out for her."
"She shouldn't need people looking out for her."
"Just as you shouldn't, but it is happening. And while I would love to spend the day, looking out for you, we should probably get dressed before I lose what little self-control I have right now."
"How about you let go of that control once we come home after brunch?"
"I just might Anderson. Now get dressed." Once Sebastian spoke, Blaine nodded but couldn't stop himself from pulling off Sebastian's towel one they released their hands. "Really B?"
"Yes, as depending when we get back you might have to behave a bit longer as I have to talk with Sam."
"So you pulled off my towel, that's not the best way of getting me to behave B."
"I know since I'm quite the fan of you misbehaving."
"Remember that because once we return, the gloves are off."
"Don't make promises you don't plan on keeping Bas."
"Oh, this is a promise I plan on keeping B, trust me."
When they finally reached the restaurant for brunch with everyone, Blaine was a bit surprised to see a few more faces than he expected. Not only were Santana and Jordan present, but Nick and Wes had come into town as well. Seeing them all present brought a smile to Sebastian's face upon seeing how happy Blaine was. It was further proof that he truly wasn't in this all alone and that his friends weren't going to run because things were getting crazy. If anything, this was bringing them all closer together.
Since they hadn't gone out with everyone the night before, Sebastian wasn't surprised when Blaine headed straight for Brittany who was speaking with the girls. As he stood back and watched, he wasn't too surprised when he felt a tap on the shoulder and saw Wes beside him. "Should I bother asking who called you and Nick?"
"Probably not, as there really are only two probable people it could be." Wes replied. "But so you stop wondering, it was Jeff. How are the two of you doing?"
"We're a bit overwhelmed if I'm being honest." Sebastian told him. "B hates that all of this is happening and we've been drawn into it. And I hate that there really isn't anything I can do to stop it. Hell, for the first time since he told me, I lost it last night."
"So I heard. That's why Jeff called us. After everything that's happened Sebastian, you shouldn't be beating yourself up over it, you're only human." Wes said to him. "You've handled this better than anyone could've expected, but everyone reaches their breaking point at some moment. With as much as you love Blaine, it's a miracle that it didn't happen sooner."
"But me losing it, seemed to only hurt Blaine more."
"Blaine was hurting because he loves you and hates seeing how his problems affect you." Sebastian looked at Wes and nodded as he knew Wes was right. "Is it true that Mr. Hummel didn't believe him?"
"Yes, and that's what set me off." Sebastian replied. "All it takes is only look at Blaine when he talks about it to know it's true."
"I know, as my heart broke when he told me. One doesn't only need to look at him, but you can hear it in his voice when he speaks." Wes said. "But, I can understand how Mr. Hummel refuses to see it. No one wants to admit their child is capable of doing what Kurt did to Blaine."
"I get that, but he didn't have to be so adamant about it. That's what pissed me off the most Wes. Hell, even my Mom was pissed about how everything was playing out and she doesn't get pissed often."
"Did she say anything?"
"Yes, she went into Momma Bear mode protecting Blaine which was a bit of a shock. She told Burt that his refusal to even concede the fact this could be true, was going to make it hurt all the more when he finds out that it is." When Wes looked at him, Sebastian smiled. "Okay, she used a bit more colorful language but I'm not going to use it since we're in public. She also might've gone off on him in French at one point which confused the bejesus out of him. B was shocked considering it seemed completely out of character for her."
"It sounds as though your Mom is quite fond of Blaine already."
"She is, as is my Dad. At least this time around, B knows he's not alone in having to deal with Hummel."
"That's very true. And while Nick and I aren't around as much as we'd like to be, if you guys need anything, remember we're only a call away."
"We know that, thank you. Seeing you both here today is exactly what B needed. He needed a reminder that people aren't going to go running when things get tough."
"The only place we're going to go running is to each other, to support one another."
