#40 Blast From the Past

"Derek I'm home!" Casey called as she hung up her coat and took off her shoes. "In the bedroom." Derek called back. Casey unpacked the groceries she had picked up on the way home. Derek came whistling into the kitchen a moment later, walking over to Casey and pressing a kiss to her cheek. "How was your day, I thought you were going to be home a lot earlier since you had the day off." Derek asked as he sat down on a kitchen stool by their island counter. "It was really good! I was going to be home before you were done but I ran into an old friend and got sidetracked.

"Oh nice, who did you run into?" Derek asked as he watched Casey unload the food. "Truman French." She replied casually, "I was at the library returning a book I had checked out and I just bumped into him. We got talking and he asked if I wanted to grab something to eat, and it was really nice. What did you do to-" Casey started to ask before she was interrupted by Derek, who was starting to stand up. "So you guys went out somewhere?" Derek asked, leaning against the counter near Casey casually. "Yeah, that cute little Italian restaurant across the street from the library." She replied. "Oh?" He asked, his voice rising a little. "Yeah, so how was your day?" She asked as she grabbed a drink and headed to the living room. "It was fine, but let's forget about me for a second. I want to know what happened at the library and at lunch." Derek said, trying to stay casual.

"Derek are you jealous?" Casey asked with a smirk spreading across her face. "No, not at all. We're married, I trust you, besides you would never go for that guy again." Derek said, as if trying to reassure himself. "Good, to know that you won't mind tomorrow then." Casey said, nuzzling against him, and turning on the television. "What do you mean tomorrow?" Derek asked, flipping off the television. "We were just going to go out for dinner. He just moved to the Toronto area and wanted to know some good food places." She said easily. "No. Just tell him the place to go and he can go. You don't need to accompany him." Derek said. "I want to go." Casey replied. "Well I forbid you to go." Derek stood up, crossing his arms. Casey stood up too and crossed her arms, "You forbid me?" She asked feeling herself get angry.

Derek nodded smugly, "Excuse me? We've known each other for a long time and I thought you knew me. You should know that I am an independent woman and I will not be bossed around by you," She poked him in the chest, "And I'm going to dinner with him tomorrow night." Casey finished. She picked up her bag and headed out the door, slamming the front door violently behind her.

Casey didn't come home that night, and Derek suspected she was just staying at Emily's apartment. Derek was not going to apologize, he knew he was right. Why would she want to go out with that doofus. What made him so special that she wanted to hang out with him. Truman was never as handsome as Derek, he wasn't athletic, he couldn't compare.

However when it turned 4 o'clock the next day and there was still no sign of Casey, Derek was starting to get worried. He knew he had to see what was going on between those two.

He drove to the restaurant where he knew Casey and Truman would be and stormed in. Derek quickly found the table where they were sitting at, and headed over. Casey spotted him, and her face turned to surprise. "Derek what are you doing here?" She asked. "Oh nothing, I just figured I'd still be able to catch you two." He said casually, sitting down next to Casey and wrapping her arm around her protectively. "Nice to see you again Truman my buddy." He reached his hand out towards the other man. "Yeah you too." He said fakely. "I'm going to use the ladies restroom, if you'll just excuse me." Casey said standing up.

As soon as Casey was out of earshot Derek had to speak up, "So what's your deal with my wife?" Derek asked bluntly. Truman smirked, "Forward I see. Look I just ran into her, wanted to know good places to eat, here we are." He said. "Well why don't you just buy a map or use the internet, instead of flirting with my wife and taking her out places." Derek said, crossing his arms angrily. Truman started to respond, "Derek it's no-" when he was interrupted by a female's voice. "Truman!" The woman called, and both Derek and Truman looked up. At this point Casey was returning from the restroom. Truman's face lifted into a smile, and he stood up, pecking the woman on the cheek. Casey, Derek, I'd like to introduce you to my wife Anne." Truman said, looking at her lovingly. Casey reached out her hand, "So nice to meet you! Truman is so fond of you, it's great to finally meet you." Casey replied warmly. Anne smiled back, "You too, Truman's told me a lot about you two, thank you for your help with the list of restaurants." The two sat down and the four ate their meal happily, Derek feeling extremely awkward the entire night.

The two couples eventually parted ways, Truman smirking at Derek.

When Casey and Derek reached the parking lot, Derek walked Casey to her car, and before she walked in, she kissed Derek on the cheek. "Feel better now?" She asked with a smirk, and Derek just looked back innocently. He then asked, "Why didn't you tell me he was married?" She looked up at him, "Because I shouldn't have to. I'm your wife, you should just trust me. Besides I love you and would never do anything like this. You're a Venturi and I am one lucky girl." She said with a smile, grabbing a fistful of his t-shirt and pulling him into a passionate kiss.
