Five Years Later

Part 80

With everything that was happening that week, Blaine and Sebastian ended up spending a bit more time apart than usual. Though, they made the best of it by Skyping as they went about their evenings. Sebastian was about to make a comment to Blaine who was packing when there was a knock on his door. "Do you want me to let you go B?"

"No, unless you don't want to continue this conversation with Rachel around." Blaine told him before going to get to the door. Once Rachel was inside, she gave him a hug before following him towards his bedroom. "What's with the look?" He asked before continuing his packing.

"I hadn't realized you'd packed up so much already."

"Most of the living room is already at Bas's." Blaine replied before pointing towards his laptop.

"Hi Sebastian." Rachel said as he looked up before helping Blaine fold some of his sweaters.

"Hi Rachel. Are you helping my boy pack?"

"I am. Plus, I came to talk to him about the visit I got from Burt on Sunday before he went home."

"What happened?" They both replied causing her to giggle.

"He came apologize to me for being a bit abrupt with me on Saturday night." Rachel told them. "But before that happened, he had to get passed Santana who wasn't happy that he came by unannounced. Honestly, I wasn't either."

"What did he have to say?" Sebastian asked as Blaine continued to pack.

"That he didn't have any idea what was really going on between Blaine and Kurt."

"We got that from how he reacted to what my Dad as well as Bas's said to him." Blaine told her without missing a beat. "Are you saying he now seems to believe it?"

"If I had to take a guess, yes." Rachel replied. "He certainly wasn't acting the same way he was on Saturday night."

"Yet you don't know for certain." Sebastian asked.

"No, but we didn't have a lot of time to talk as I was getting ready to leave for rehearsal. It's one of the reasons Santana was pissed as we were both getting ready to head out."

"Where was she heading?"

"She actually received a call that morning, for a commercial reshoot. It seemed that when the original was sent to the company, they hated it, especially the girl starring in it. Supposedly, the girl didn't have enough attitude."

"Well, we know Santana can easily rectify that." Blaine said with a slight laugh.

"I told her the same thing."

"Did Burt say anything else? I don't mean to push, but since you two are going to pack, I'm going to get back to studying. Yet, I can't do that till I know what else happened." Sebastian stated to them.

"Not really, but as I said, he seemed off. And for him to say what he did, he and Kurt clearly must've spoken about some of the things that happened while you two were married."

"Sounds as though Mr. Hummel got more information he didn't want to hear." Sebastian said to them. "With that, I'm going to let the two of you get to work. B, call me later so we can finish our conversation."

"Will do. I love you."

"I love you too B. Night Rachel."

"Night Sebastian." After Rachel spoke, Blaine closed the connection, and then his laptop screen. "It won't be much longer and you two won't be doing that." When Blaine looked at her, Rachel shrugged her shoulders. "What is it?"

"Rach, it's going to be the norm for most of the summer for us." Blaine replied. "And if things go the way Vincent thinks, I'll be heading out on a tour of my own possibly by late fall. Most of it stems off how well the first couple of singles are received, but Bas is pretty certain it's going to happen."

"I take it he's heard the single."

"He has." Blaine told her. "He's actually heard most of the album as I shared it with him when he whisked me away to the Hamptons for our little getaway. He loved it."

"That doesn't surprise me." Rachel told him as she reached for Blaine's hand. "And he isn't the type of person to say something he doesn't mean."

"That I know as well. So when he went on about what he was hearing, I got a little embarrassed."

"You've worked so hard on this Blaine; it doesn't surprise me that it turned out well."

"You don't know that as you haven't heard it yet. Just as I know your first single is amazing as Brittany is in love with it."

"She's not supposed to talk about it."

"She didn't, let us all know how incredible it is." Rachel said. "I can't remember the last time I saw her so excited and neither could Quinn or Santana. We can't wait to hear it."

"That's reassuring." Blaine said with a smile.

"Yet you're nervous."

"What makes you say that?" Blaine asked as he sat down beside her.

"You could hear it in your voice when you spoke about talking with Sebastian on the computer for most of the summer." Rachel told him. "It's not going to change things between you two; Sebastian loves you and supports you."

"I know that he does, on both counts." Blaine replied. "The thing is, Bas and I both know things are going to change. It's just a matter of how we handle the things thrown at us."

"That's understandable. At least you're both aware of it. And according to Thad, Sebastian plans on coming to see you as often as he can." When the last part came out, Rachel noticed a smile creep to Blaine's face. "You like hearing that, don't you?"

"I do. Everything this time around is so different Rach, it feels right."

"That's because you each make the other a priority." Rachel told him while giving his hand a squeeze. "It almost makes loving each other easier."

"Are you speaking from experience?"

"I am." Rachel replied. "Being in a relationship with Thad has really opened up my eyes about a lot of things." Blaine was pretty quick to quirk an eyebrow at her response. "Don't look at me like that Blaine, it's true. With as crazy as Thad's study schedule is, I know that when he clears time for me, it's because he wants to be with me. He's not doing it because I'm forcing his hand, it's because he wants to."

"Are you saying you've learned that others' lives are as important?"

"I have. I know I could bitch and moan about not seeing him enough, but I know that some things are out of his control. Just as he knows that there are times when he's free, yet I'm in rehearsals."

"Yet it'll get easier for you once you actually start the show."

"True, that's something I'll be looking forward to for numerous reasons." Rachel said with a smile. "So, what I was saying is I now have a better idea of the give and take that is necessary for an adult relationship to work. It's something I start to see glimpses of before he and I were together, by watching you and Sebastian."

"Really?"

"Yes. With you both already having rather established lives, you found a way to make them work without giving up who you are. Yet at the same time, you embrace everything that's going on in the other's life." When Blaine looked at her, Rachel started to laugh. "It's true. The fact that you don't even realize it proves how well you the guys understand one another. While you had to work a bit to figure things out, it wasn't a burden for you. All the changes you and Sebastian made, you made them because you wanted to."

"Since when did you become so insightful?" Blaine asked as he wrapped an arm around her, causing her to lean against him. "Huh?"

"I wish I knew. Things just seem to be making more sense to me nowadays." Rachel told him. "And part of being in a healthy relationship, is not giving up who you are to make things work."

"That is very true, and I learned that the hard way." Blaine said to her. "The only thing Bas expects from me is for me to be myself and that's all I expect from him. I don't have to try and be who he wants me to be, if that makes sense."

"It does actually. He takes you the way you are, which is the way it should be." Rachel replied. "Amazing how when we were younger, we thought we needed to become someone else to be loved. Yet being loved, means not having to change who you are to make the other happy, they love you for you."

"Precisely. Also, it means someone accepts who you are completely, flaws and all. And people, are flawed individuals."

"Seeing how happy you are now, I'm so sorry I reacted the way I did when I first saw you and Sebastian together."

"It's okay, as it was honestly expected."

"But that doesn't make it right Blaine. Sebastian clearly changed over the years, yet one thing didn't, how much he cares about you. And I had no right to judge him based on things in his past. I should've been able to see what Santana saw from the get go and that was how happy you were. A happiness that has only grown since the two of you have been together. I'm so happy for you Blaine."

"Thank you. You should know, neither Bas nor I hold how you first reacted against you." Rachel nodded. "Like I said, it was expected considering the history between everyone involved. I'm just glad you gave him a chance."

"I'm glad I did as well, as now I know why you love him the way you do."

"How are things going with you and Thad?"

"Really well." Rachel replied. "I'm so happy Blaine."

"I'm glad to hear it as you deserve it. Was it awkward for the two of you on Saturday night?"

"Not really. The hardest part of it was not going off on him and telling him what I really think of him."

"Are you sure?" Blaine asked her.

"I'm positive. If you wanted to see awkward, it would've been when he came over after his Dad called him about everything and found Thad at the loft wearing only his pants from the night before." Blaine couldn't stop a laugh from escaping him. "I know, quite the sight, huh."

"He had to be shocked."

"He was." Rachel told him. "But the best reaction, came when Santana told him to leave because she was going to go have sex with Jordan." The fact that Blaine laughed again, didn't surprise her. "It gets better. After Kurt called her rude because Thad and I were there, Santana told him that it wouldn't bother us because we were probably going to do the same thing." By this point, Blaine was lying back on his bed laughing. "Let me also add, that we'd be too pre-occupied because and I quote, Thad rocks my world."

"She didn't?"

"She did, and then proceeded to push Kurt out the door so we could close it." Rachel then turned to look at Blaine who'd propped himself up on his elbows. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"How does Santana know that Thad presumably rocks your world?" The light, playful tone of his voice stopped Rachel's walls from going up. "Rachel."

"She might've come home one night and…" When Blaine started to laugh again, she started to playfully swat at his leg. "It's not funny Blaine."

"Yes it is. Did she happen to catch you two or did she only happen to hear you?"

"She heard us." Rachel said quickly. "I can't believe I just told you that."

"Me either." Blaine replied. "Were Santana's words truthful?"

"I plead the fifth."

"Thad rocks your world." The laughter that escaped him, earned him quite the look from Rachel, but she couldn't hide the smile she had on her face. "Good for you!" Blaine said before sitting up once again. "You deserve to be happy Rachel. Speaking of, do you have the day you debut yet?" When her smile grew, Blaine realized she did. The next thing he saw was her handing him her phone with a page opened. "Seriously?" Rachel nodded as Blaine looked at the page once more. "You realize that means I'll get to see you before I leave."

"I know, but it's cutting it close." Rachel told him. "Derek had told me, my debut depended on how quickly I learned the show. So, I'd been working extra hard as I really wanted you to be there for it Blaine."

"While you didn't have too, I appreciate it." Blaine replied while giving her a hug. "It'll be a nice way to spend one of my last nights in the city before I leave."

"Thad figured the same thing once I told him. He felt you and Sebastian could use a night out that doesn't pertain to everything that's going on with you. I mean, your schedule before then is pretty crazy."

"That is something Bas and I know all too well." Blaine said to her. "It's one of the reasons we're going on vacation beforehand. Not only will we be celebrating my graduation, but enjoying our time together."

"Did you know, at first when you and Sebastian said you were going away, I was a bit jealous?" Blaine shook his head in response. "It's true. I wanted to be able to get to spend time with you before you leave as well. But Santana was quick to remind me that while you leaving is going to be hard on us, it's even harder on you and Sebastian."

"Well, I guess you're not the only one with insight nowadays. I take it Santana's relationship with Jordan has brought out her soft-side more often than not."

"It has. She's really happy, and Jordan doesn't necessarily put up with her crap when she gets bitchy. Yet, she understands why it happens. She's the type of girl, Santana deserved. One that understands she can be moody, but can also see what a big heart she has."

"That's very true." Blaine then stood up and walked over to his closet. "So, should I take this willingness to help me pack is about spending more time with me?"

"It is, but I would've helped even if you weren't leaving. It seemed so strange to walk in here and see how empty it already is."

"Yea, when his Mom was in town, she arranged to have the boxes I'd already packed brought over. All that's left right now is essentially the kitchen, my bedroom, and what's left of my recording equipment. The rest is already there."

"What's happening with your furniture?" Rachel asked as Blaine brought over another pile of sweaters from his closet.

"A couple of pieces are going over; the rest is going into storage, why?"

"I was curious considering Sebastian's place was furnished."

"Victoria figured out which pieces would best work together. Since his Mom is a designer, it has made this transition easier for us both. Just wait till you see how his place looks."

"You won't be calling it his, much longer." Rachel told him with a giggle before setting another sweater into the box.

"Bas said the same thing, but it's a change I'll get used to pretty quickly."

By the time they were about done, Rachel asked if he wanted anymore help before she headed home for the night. While it was tempting, Blaine declined considering there wasn't much clothing left. Not to mention, there were a few things he had in drawers he didn't want Rachel to chance coming across. So after walking her to the door, Blaine made her promise to text once she got home so he knew she'd made it safely before she called Thad. Once she was gone, Blaine looked around his apartment and could see why coming over was strange, his apartment truly was quite empty. Yet for him seeing it this way, it was quite soothing knowing he was about to move forward with his life once again. While his walls were empty for the most part, Blaine looked to the side table when he sat down on the couch and saw the picture of him and Sebastian from after New Year's. Even though they'd taken quite a few pictures together before then and since, there was something special about that one to Blaine.

When they finally reached the end of the week, Blaine was surprised to see Jeff and Nick waiting for him outside his building when he got home that day. "And he's returned." Nick said with a laugh once Blaine was in front of them. "We were beginning to think we were going to have to go looking for you."

"Well, if I knew I had someone waiting for me, I might've walked a bit quicker." Blaine told them as they headed for the front door. "So, what brings the two of you by?"

"Sebastian mentioned when I spoke to him that you were bringing some stuff over today." Jeff said to him. "So, since we were both in town already for your show tonight, we thought we'd offer to help."

"I appreciate that since Bas is a bit busy."

"So he mentioned." Nick added as they headed up the stairs. "He's rather frustrated at the moment with all the studying he has to do. And from talking with Thad, Hunter is in the same state. Sebastian feels as though he's letting you down with as busy as he is."

"We felt that you'd appreciate it as well because we're rather certain you can't wait to make this move complete." Jeff added. "So, here we are."

"Wait, he feels he's letting me down?" Blaine asked as they walked into his apartment and they both nodded. "But I understand he's got studying to do. The last thing I'd want is him putting off his studies to help me pack."

"Part of him understands that Blaine, truly." Jeff said as he took in how empty the apartment was. "But you can't tell me you haven't felt the same way when you've been in rehearsals and he's needed a hand." When Blaine looked at him, they laughed. "That's what we thought."

"Now, are all the boxes in here or are there more?" Nick asked as he looked at the stack of boxes near the wall.

"There is one more in the kitchen, plus one in my bedroom." Blaine replied before setting his bag on the couch. "You guys really didn't need to do this, but thank you."

"It's as we said, we knew you'd appreciate it." Nick told him. "Not to mention, this is an easy move since Thad mentioned you guys were going to hire someone to move the furniture."

"Yes, we're hiring someone because of how crazy everyone's schedule is." Blaine told them. "Would you guys like anything to drink?" They both said yes, so Blaine headed for the kitchen to get them something. When he returned, he noticed the two talking by the window. "What is it?"

"Is this where you and Sebastian were standing when Santana gave him his ever so fitting nickname?" Jeff asked as Blaine handed them each a beer.

"That would be correct." Blaine replied. "How are the two of you handling your upcoming finals?"

"I'd say Jeff here has the easiest of us all, but not by much." Nick told him as Blaine sat down on the arm of the chair. "Wes is hoping to finish up in the lab in time to catch the train into the city for tonight's show."

"Is that only him, or is he bringing Chloe with him?"

"She's coming with." Jeff told him. "I take it you approve of her?"

"I do." Blaine replied. "I actually like everyone's girlfriends."

"That's good, as they adore you." When Blaine smiled, the guys laughed. "It's true, though you had to know mine does." Jeff then shot him a wink. "Speaking of the girlfriends though, did Kimberly or whoever it is she works with that deals with that stuff, talk with Vincent?"

"Yes."

"So…" Nick asked. "Are you going to do it?"

"Yes, I'm actually doing it on the Saturday before I leave for tour."

"What? When did you plan on telling us?"

"Tonight actually, though you won't be surprised to know that Bas already knows this information. Hunter does as well actually as he was there when I signed everything." Blaine replied. "It's actually why I was running a bit late as I wasn't coming from school, but from my lawyer's office. I had contracts to sign. Now, Bas does know you guys are here?"

"Yes, he knows." Jeff told him. "We called him to make sure we wouldn't be intruding should we offer our help. By the way, we're all able to come to your concert next week, right?"

"Yes, but don't feel obligated to be there. Heck, I even told Bas he doesn't need to come since he has studying to do."

"Blaine, you have to know telling him that was pointless." Nick told him.

"I do, and he said the same thing as he wouldn't miss it. He was actually a bit offended that I even mentioned it. Also, know my parents are going to be here as well for it as they said they wouldn't miss it either."

"The fact that Sebastian was slightly offend, isn't surprisingly in the slightest." Jeff said to him. "He loves you Blaine, so he wouldn't miss it."

"That's essentially what he told me as well. But he said it didn't surprise him a bit later on, as he knows I know how busy he is." Blaine then took another swig of his beer. "Since we got that all out of the way, how about we get started as I'd like to have some downtime before show time?"

With Jeff and Nick there to help, they were able to get all of the boxes down and loaded into a cab. During their trip over to Sebastian's, Nick and Jeff got caught up on everything else that had been going on. While they'd all had brunch the last weekend, they knew everything wasn't talked about considering Blaine's band was there, as were Quinn and Brittany. So to find out what Burt wanted to talk about, obviously upset them. Yet, they were shocked to hear he went to see Rachel the next day. "Are you sure he didn't say anything else to Rachel?" Nick asked as they neared Sebastian's.

"Positive, as she was on her way out. All Rachel told me was that Burt apologized for acting the way he did towards her. Plus he said, he didn't know. But obviously, I don't know what he was referring to since so much did happen." Blaine replied. "A part of me thinks Kurt wouldn't tell him, yet another part thinks he'd tell him just enough that Burt wouldn't push for more."

"So, he'd know some of what happened, but not the extent of what you went through." Jeff said.

"Precisely, and Burt accepting part of it would be huge considering how he reacted to me and my parents. He was flat out in denial that any of it happened and I was making it all up."

"Don't take this the wrong way Blaine, but considering how you flinched that night, it was clear it had happened too many times."

"Why didn't you say anything?" Blaine asked as he glanced at Jeff.

"Because I didn't want to push, plus I didn't want to be right. Not to mention, seeing the way Sebastian reacted the last thing I wanted to deal with, was his wrath should I upset you. I can't recall ever seeing him that way before."

"Yet once we knew everything, it made sense." Nick added. "And we all probably would've acted the way Sebastian did. Hell, he held it together better than the rest of us probably would have."

"Don't underestimate yourselves, you never know." Blaine said to them. "One never knows how they'll behave in a given setting, till they're put in it. I'm only hoping that I don't have to address it again as I want to focus on the future."

"Is that musically or personally?" Jeff asked with a smile.

"Both." Luckily for Blaine, in that moment they pulled up in front of the building. The moment they got out, the doorman went for one of the carts just inside. While their cabbie opened the trunk, Blaine tried to ignore the way Jeff and Nick were looking at him. Once they had the boxes loaded up, they made their way inside. During the trip up, Blaine had texted Sebastian so he knew they were on their way so he wasn't startled when they came walking in. After exiting the elevator, they turned and spotted Sebastian leaning against the doorframe. Upon reaching the apartment, the two shared a quick kiss before making their way inside.

"Damn! Wes wasn't kidding when he said this place looked different." Nick exclaimed once they made their way to the living room. "It looks great!"

"Thank you." Sebastian replied as he wrapped his arms around Blaine. "And thank you for helping B bring this stuff over."

"You're welcome." Jeff told them. "Where do you guys want everything?"

"It's going into the guest room so that it's out of sight till I get around to unpacking it." Blaine told them. "So, let's get this unloaded." When Sebastian went to turn, Blaine placed his hands over Sebastian's. "You're going to get back to studying Bas." Sebastian then leaned his head over Blaine's shoulder. "I'm serious." He then kissed Sebastian on the cheek who proceeded to let him go.

It wasn't long after Sebastian was seated, did the three begin bringing the boxes into the guest room. When they entered the room, Jeff and Nick were surprised to see no other boxes. Blaine was quick to tell them that anything else he'd brought over had already been put away. He then told them that the most of the boxes Victoria had brought over for them, she'd put away as they were items for the bookshelves. By the time they had everything in the guest room, Blaine went to take the cart down to the lobby, leaving Jeff and Nick with Sebastian.

"From the looks of Blaine's place, it won't be much longer till you two are living together." Nick said as he looked at Sebastian who was sitting on the floor in front of an open laptop. "Getting excited?"

"I'm looking forward to it." Sebastian replied. "It'll be nice, being in the same place. That is until he leaves. Yet the sooner he moves in here, the more time we have."

"If the looks of his place is any clue, he feels the same way." Jeff told him. "There isn't much left for him to pack up."

"He's been spending all his free time packing." Sebastian said to them. "Though, there really hasn't been much of it. But, a couple of nights ago Rachel helped him with some of it. B's goal is to be able to move in by next week. And from what I saw and you just told me, it's going to happen." When the words left his mouth, Jeff and Nick noticed a smile creep to Sebastian's face, when they only ever saw when it came to Blaine. "From that point, he can let his parents know when they can have the cleaners come in and take care of all the deep cleaning."

"His concert, right?" Nick asked.

"Yes, that's the goal. That when we leave there that night, we'll be coming home…together." Nick glanced over at Jeff who was smiling, because it was clear how much Sebastian was looking forward to this.

"Does that mean we shouldn't be expecting to go out that night?" Jeff asked, earning him a look from Sebastian. "I'm serious."

"A lot of that will depend on how much studying I need to do." Sebastian replied as Blaine came walking back into the room. "Why?"

"Curious."

"Sterling, you had a look on your face that wasn't curiosity it had more behind it."

"He's got a point." Nick said as Blaine sat down in the chair behind Sebastian, who quickly leaned back between his legs. "What is it?"

"I was only asking since I plan on being in town since Morgan is playing that night as well." When even Blaine snickered, Jeff looked at him. "Why don't any of you believe me?"

"Because we know you." Nick told him. "So, just tell us what else was going through that head of yours."

"That's okay, as it was a really stupid thought." Jeff said before grabbing one of Sebastian's books off the table. Yet once he was about to ask another question, Nick took the book from his hand as Blaine and Sebastian looked at him. "No."

"Just tell us." Blaine replied. "I doubt it's anything we haven't heard."

"Guys, can we just drop it?"

"No." Sebastian told him. "Now, just tell us before I start to really push because I've got studying to do before B and I take our usual pre-performance nap." When Jeff chuckled, Sebastian looked back over his shoulder at Blaine. "You've got a dirty mind."

"Excuse me?"

"He's right, you do." Nick told him. "Though, you try to come off as innocent. You just don't pull it off as well as Blaine does." When Blaine looked at him, Nick laughed. "Sorry, but it's true."

"What did I walk in on?"

"Jeff was asking if we were going to go out after your concert next week. I told him I wasn't sure as it depends on how much studying I have to do. Yet when he asked, he had this weird look on his face. Now we're here." Sebastian told him. "Yet after the way he reacted, I think I know what he was implying since I mentioned we'd hoped we'd be coming home together afterwards."

"You did not." Blaine said as he wrapped his arms around Sebastian's neck. "Yet, I can totally believe it."

"See, it wasn't that crazy of a question."

"It's more the point you implied it." Nick said as he figured things out. "But, as Blaine said, I can believe it. Sebastian?"

"That's true as it does sort of fit our personalities. Not to mention, we're not the shiest group about certain aspects of our lives." Sebastian replied. "So, if you were subtly asking if now that it'll be our place if we're going to christen it…that's none of your damn business. Right Killer?"

"That would be correct." Blaine said. "Speaking of, you're not going to be christening the tour bus."

"No, Morgan and I will leave that to the two of you." When Jeff replied, Nick looked at Blaine and Sebastian hadn't reacted.

"Are you three always like this?"

"For the most part, yes." Blaine told him. "Don't feel left out because we're not like this with anyone else really. And by that, I mean so open. But with Morgan being not only my friend, but a part of my band, we spend a lot of time together."

"Let's not forget that B's the one that went lingerie shopping with her for Valentine's Day so that she made certain she bought something Jeff would like." Sebastian added seeing the confused look on Nick's face.

"That's a good point that I hadn't really thought about." Nick said. "Now, do you two want us to leave or are we good to hang for a bit?"

"We're good, but after dinner you're going to need to go so I can get my nap in." Blaine told them and Sebastian agreed. "And Jeff, make sure you're quiet when you get back to Morgan's since I know she naps before shows as well."

"Fear not, I will be quiet when I join her." Once Jeff winked, Nick shook his head as moments like this highlighted things he and the others not in the city missed out on.
