#49 Drop

"That was nice wasn't it?" Casey McDonald asked her boyfriend Tim Hayes as they walked into her apartment that night. The couple had just come home from a McDonald-Venturi family barbeque, and everyone was there, including a certain auburn headed, cocky boy. "Yeah it was just awesome." Tim grumbled, kicking his shoes off aggressively.

"Is something wrong hon?" She asked, notice his tone. "Nope," He said sharply, 'not for you anyway." He mumbled so quietly she almost didn't hear him. Now she knew something was up, she turned to face him, "Okay Tim cut the crap, what is your problem?" She asked, sick of his passive aggressive attitude. He scoffed, "You want me to cut the crap? Me? What about you?" He said, now she was completely puzzled. "What are you talking about?" She asked. "Derek." He gritted angrily. "And?" She asked, pressing for more. "You and him are in love with each other! You were flirting with each other and basically drooling all over each other! And now that I'm thinking about it, this is how it's always been!" He boomed, getting closer to her.

She was completely taken aback, this was not at all what she was expecting. "W-what?' She stammered quietly, backing slightly away from him. Noticing her surprise, Tim's expression and tone softened, "You're in love with him Case. I think you always have been." Casey looked down, suddenly unable to look him in the eye. "And he loves you too, which makes me really want to kick his ass." He added. She was suddenly worried at where this conversation was heading, "Tim, I'm not. I'm with you." She tried to tell him and he just shook his head. "That's bullshit Casey. You're trying to tell me that if Derek finally gathered the balls to tell you out front that he loves you and wants to be with you that you would turn him down?" He said, and Casey didn't reply and he continued, "That's what I thought. If he did that you would just drop me and flee to him. I know that and you do too." He looked at her dead in the eye.

A tear slowly escaped from her eye, "I'm so sorry Tim. I never meant to hurt you." She apologized quietly, and though he was jealous and angry from his own heartbreak, he couldn't be mad at her. "I know you are, and that's why this hurts more. You're such a damn good person Casey, and that's part of why I fell for you. I need to go now, there's nothing left for me here." He said, kissing Casey tenderly on the forehead.

He turned to leave, and as he opened the door he paused and added, "Derek is a very lucky man." and he headed out the door and out of her life forever.
