#50 Renewal
One week away. Casey would finally turn old, or at least old in her eyes, in one week. Seven days and Casey Venturi would turn 50. Casey was in the denial phase currently, but as she looked in the mirror everyday, she felt older.
She felt the wrinkles stretching across her face, she plucked the few grey hairs that sprouted, and she heard the quiet cracks her joints made as she got up in the morning. She felt gross, but was comforted to know that at least her husband was going through the same thing, even more because he already was 50. Though she felt old, to Derek she just grew more and more beautiful every single day.
Derek had a slightly different approach and feelings towards getting old and turning the big 5-0. Though he felt the stiffness, he ignored it and instead just worked out more often, whether it be going on a walk with Casey, or going to the gym to lift with their oldest son, 23 year old Trent. Derek was taking aging with ease, and was remaining just as handsome as he had ever been; wise light wrinkles, and after retiring his signature 'bed head' hairdo, he now sported a sleeker, more mature hairdo.
When the day finally came, Casey was a little bummed, but Derek, had something up his sleeve that he thought would cheer her up.
"C'mon Casey, get up!" Derek demanded, pulling her up from her spot on the couch. "Why?" She whined, trying to sit back down, but Derek kept her up. "Because I've got a surprise. Now go get changed into something nice!" He ordered playfully, slapping her butt as she turned.
While Casey was in the bathroom getting ready, Derek quickly made a phone call to his daughter. "Hey Jessica, is everything coming together?" He asked quietly, making sure that Casey couldn't hear him. "Yes, everything looks wonderful! Trent is helping set up the aisle and talking with the managers and I have just received the flowers from the florist. Also I am about to get in my car and go pick up your tux from the dry cleaners, so I'd say everything is running smooth." She replied, and Derek smiled, "Wonderful. Thank you, and your brother for all your help. We have the best children. Bye princess." He replied hanging up, conveniently before Casey re-entered the living room.
When he looked up from his phone, he saw Casey standing there patiently, and she looked incredible. Casey had curled her now medium length brunette hair into soft large curls, and applied light, romantic makeup. She finished off her look by putting on a pink, knee length dress and cream-colored pumps. After drooling over his drop dead gorgeous wife for a minute, he was finally able to speak again. "Wow, Casey. You look absolutely beautiful." He said, completely in awe of her. She blushed and looked down at her feet shyly, "Thank you." She replied. Derek was still the joker he had always been, which made compliments like that all the more special. "Okay, are you ready?" Derek asked, and Casey just nodded.
Derek had taken Casey on a long drive though the large city of Los Angeles, where they had moved and resided in about ten years ago due to a job offer Derek had received. They drove throughout the whole city just together, listening to Casey's favorite music and just enjoying each other's company. Finally Derek knew that it was time for Casey's surprise, so he drove the two down to Laguna Beach and drove them to one of Casey's favorite places, Orange County Country Club: Laguna Beach Place, and pulled into the parking lot.
Casey had loved the place since their move to California and lit up once she saw where they were. "Derek!" She cried in delight, looking around at the beautiful area around them. Derek smiled at his wife's adorable, childlike glee and chuckled, "Happy?" He asked, and she nodded her head up and down furiously. "Well the surprise isn't over yet." He said mischievously and she just smiled brighter and kissed him on the cheek lovingly.
The two entered the fancy facility and then Casey saw Trent and Jessica waiting for them in the check in area. "My babies!" She squealed running over to them, gathering both in a huge hug in her tiny arms. She kissed them both and continued hugging them tightly. Derek went to "check in" while Casey was in the middle of her lovefest with her children.
Derek then returned to his wife and three children. "They said it should only be a few minutes before we get seated." He informed the three and Casey replied, "That sounds good. I just can't get over how wonderful this all is; the club, the lunch, my husband, my children. Thank you everyone." She said graciously. "I'm just going to use the restroom, I'll be right back." Derek informed, and both Trent and Jessica knew what that meant.
Like clockwork the hostess, who was in on the surprise, called the Venturi family up and assured them that they would show Derek where they were. The hostess led Casey, Trent and Jessica through the restaurant and all the way to the back in a separate room.
When they entered the room, Casey completely froze. The room was huge and was dimly litted with twinkly lights that were hung from the ceilings. There was a light white aisle in the middle of the floor which led to a beautifully decorated altar. The front of the rrom had a couple of chairs where Trent and Jessica went and sat down on to join an elderly Nora and George, Edwin, Lizzie, and Marti. As Casey took in the room, her family, and everything else, Derek suddenly appeared in front of her, dressed in a classic black tuxedo.
Before Casey could say anything, Derek got down on one knee. "Casey today my life started 50 years ago. The day you were born. We have been together 35 years, thirty five," He started before being interrupted, "Derek, we've been married for twenty five years." she corrected. Derek just shook his head, "Well we met when we were fifteen. And even then we both knew that this is how it was going to end. We knew that we were meant to be. So in my head, it's been thirty five years together. Casey I love you, plain and simple. I know I usually have a tough time talking about fff-feelings, but today here they are. You are beautiful, smart, funny, kind, sexy, stubborn, headstrong, clever, and perfect for me. I love being in love with you and everyday I thank my lucky stars that somehow, for some reason, you chose to love me too. I remember when we first moved out here you said how much you loved it here and would have definitely gotten married here had we lived here then, so I figured why not now. With all that being said, I have one question. Cassandra McDonald-Venturi, would you do me the honor of marrying me again?" He finished, looking up at his wife, who was sobbing happy tears.
"Yes of course." She managed to wobble out happily. Derek smiled and popped back up, grabbing Casey's face and kissing her deeply.
He then linked his arms with hers and they walked down the aisle again, promising each other to love each other forever, promising another 50 years of pure and complete bliss.
