Five Years Later
Part 88
When it came time for Blaine and Sebastian to board a plane again the next Saturday, there were plenty of mixed emotions for each of them. While neither wanted to leave as they truly enjoyed having the private time with each other in such a perfect locale. They were also eager to get back and embrace everything that was going to happen for Blaine. And while that also meant Blaine would be leaving soon, they were ready to face it. Throughout the flight home, Sebastian kept glancing over at Blaine who hadn't let go of his hand since they'd gotten settled nor spoken much. From what Sebastian could figure, Blaine was a bit nervous about his interview even with it being with Jordan.
Wanting to be sure, he leaned in a bit closer before lifting Blaine's headphones. Once Blaine looked at him, Sebastian gave his hand a squeeze. "What is it Bas?"
"Are the others joining you tonight or is it just you?"
"It's just me, much as it will be when we are making the radio rounds." Blaine told him. "You're still coming with me tonight, right?" The look in Blaine's eyes when he spoke, confirmed Sebastian's thoughts.
"Of course I'm coming with you." Sebastian replied before kissing him on the cheek. "Care to tell me why you seem so nervous?" Blaine tilted his head slightly at Sebastian's words. "It's okay to be so B, it's a big moment and different from the last interview you did with Jordan."
"That's precisely why I'm nervous. The last one was more about getting to know us, and this one is about pre-launching the single in a sense."
"Are they playing it?"
"A snippet. What if they don't like it Bas?" Blaine then moved his head to Sebastian's shoulder as they'd scooted as close to one another as they could. Sebastian glanced down and saw Blaine had closed his eyes.
"While I want to tell you everyone will love it, that's obviously not going to happen as there are always people that dislike things. But, everyone that's heard it so far has loved it Blaine and I have a feeling that's going to be the general consensus." Blaine nodded his head slightly and gave Sebastian's hand a squeeze. "Remember how you felt before your first show B or how you felt before your trip during spring break?" Sebastian asked and heard a quiet reply. "Remember how you felt afterwards?" Blaine replied once again. "This is just another one of those situations." He then turned his head and pressed a kiss to the top of Blaine's head. "You know, after we get home I'm willing help you relax before we head to the studio." When Blaine glanced up with a smile on his face, Sebastian smiled as well. "And here I thought you'd say no as you'd gotten enough over vacation."
"Never enough when it comes to you."
"Good to hear as the feeling is definitely mutual."
Once they landed back in New York, they each got a good laugh as their phones lit up the moment they were turned back on. Considering where they were, they were going to wait to return calls till they were home. When they came walking back through customs, they saw Scott waiting for them. "Well, it looks as though the two of you had a good time." He told them upon seeing how relaxed they looked. "Welcome home!"
"Thanks!" Blaine replied as they headed towards the awaiting car. "And for your information, we had a wonderful time."
"Happy to hear it." Scott said in response. "Are you ready for everything to begin?"
"As ready as we can be." Blaine told him.
"That's all one should expect. Also, Vincent asked me to tell you he will be meeting you at the studio as he's in meetings today."
"Anything else?"
"You remember that PR is coming by as well as a stylist to help you get ready."
"I do, but I have a couple of hours to unwind though, right?" Scott nodded before handing their luggage off to their awaiting driver. Once they were situated in the backseat, Blaine looked at Sebastian. "This is really happening, isn't it?"
"It is. How many calls do you have to make once we get home?"
"Have to make, only a couple." Blaine told him. "The rest can wait till either later tonight or tomorrow. I really don't want to get into everything with everyone till tomorrow as I have too many other things going on."
"Understandable." Sebastian said while placing his hand on Blaine's thigh. "You do realize all it would take is one call to either Wes or Thad for them to drop the subject. I mean, you know those two would quickly get word out."
"I know, but I feel this is something I should address with everyone and not the others, including you. I'm slightly shocked that I have to do it at all." That was a sentiment Sebastian understood all too well as they'd thought for the most part this would've stayed quiet. Little did either of them expect Kurt to try and find Blaine, and go through Rachel of all people.
By the time they were home, Blaine was still trying to convince Scott he could leave since he and Sebastian weren't planning on going anywhere. When Blaine finally gave up, Scott smiled as he understood where Blaine was coming from, but he had a job to do as well. And while no one really expected anything to happen since no one knew he was home, Vincent didn't want to take any chances. With how Blaine was feeling in that moment, Sebastian set a mass text out to everyone letting them know they were home, but also asking to be left alone till Sunday.
After reading the text, Jeff looked across Morgan's living room at Nick who'd come into town the night before. "So much for seeing them tonight after Blaine's interview." Nick said to him without Jeff saying a word. "The fact the message came from Sebastian speaks volumes."
"My thought as well." Jeff replied. "The fact Sebastian sent it and not Blaine means we shouldn't push. Not quite the way one expected them to come back from vacation."
"Yet considering everything that happened after they left, I'm not really surprised."
"True." As Jeff spoke, Morgan came walking into the apartment as she'd just gotten her hair done. "Wow!"
"I take that to mean you approve?" She replied before taking a seat next to him and being greeted with a kiss.
"I love it!" Jeff told her before kissing her again. "What do you think Nick?"
"It looks great Morgan."
"Thank you." While she spoke, Jeff slid his arm around her. "Care to tell me what has the two of you looking so serious?"
"Blaine and Sebastian are home, but Sebastian sent a text out asking not to be bothered till tomorrow."
"That doesn't surprise me." Morgan's response caught both of them off-guard and their expressions showed it. "Come on guys, Blaine's got a big interview tonight. The last thing he's going to want to talk about is what's happening with his ex-husband. Let him enjoy this moment. Nothing should be overshadowing this time for him."
"That's actually a really good point." Jeff told her before kissing her once again. "We should probably remind everyone of that fact. While we're curious as to what's going on, we can't let it take away from what's really happening."
"True, true. Plus, as Wes told us, Hunter said he probably wouldn't say much considering lawyers and all that stuff." Nick added. "So, let's remind everyone to focus on the positive things that are going on and not the drama. Like you said, we're curious but we can't let it overshadow what truly matters."
Considering how blunt his text had been, Sebastian half expected to hear back from at least one person. Yet the silence, was welcomed as he knew those close to them would understand where he was coming from. He hadn't sent it to be malice, he sent to as his protective instincts had kicked in regarding Blaine. When he looked down in his lap where Blaine's head was, he continued to run his fingers through Blaine's curls, loving how relaxed he currently looked. Even with the conversation they'd had during their flight, Sebastian was content letting Blaine set the tone in that moment. While he'd love to get lost in one another as they did so many times during vacation, he knew Blaine knew what he needed.
By the time the member of the PR staff and the stylist arrived, Blaine was in the bathroom brushing his teeth as he and Sebastian had slightly lost track of time. After they came in, they both looked at Sebastian who showed them to the living room and told them Blaine would be out shortly. When he did come walking out, the two girls looked at one another. "I guess Vincent was right to tell me you two had gone some place warm." The stylist said as she looked at Blaine who'd gotten quite the tan during their trip. "Once I heard that I knew I had to bring a couple of looks with depending on how much color you got." Blaine smiled at her as the publicist looked at him.
"Are you good with us multi-tasking Blaine?"
"Of course." Blaine replied as the stylist started to get set up. "I take it there are a few things I need to know?"
"It's more about making sure you don't get talked into a corner about something you don't want to talk about." She told him as Sebastian sat down on the far end of the couch, out of the way. "I know you're familiar with Jordan, but this is to make sure you're prepared for Monday and Tuesday as well. Once people hear your single, there are going to be plenty of questions."
"You mean about my personal life."
"They will certainly be asked considering the nature of the song." She then looked at Sebastian. "Is it correct that you're joining Blaine on Monday and Tuesday Sebastian?"
"That would be correct. Do you mind if I ask why?"
"I was double-checking even though Vincent had said you would be." While the publicist spoke, two shirts were being held up behind Blaine and Sebastian couldn't help but point to one causing the stylist to smile. She then gathered the rest of the outfit to give to Blaine to change into. Once Blaine walked out of the room, the publicist and stylist began to look around. "Your home is lovely Sebastian."
"Thank you. My Mom is a designer and helped combine mine and Blaine's styles." Sebastian then got up from his seat. "Do you know how long today will last?"
"I know we need to be there an hour ahead of time." The publicist told him. "But once things start, it shouldn't take too long. Tuesday is going to be the most hectic of the days."
"Vincent mentioned that to Blaine numerous times."
When Blaine came walking out of their bedroom, Sebastian couldn't help but give him a double take as he looked great. Blaine looked up at him before heading towards the stylist who gave him a once over. Looking pleased with how Blaine looked, she had him take a seat so she could work on his hair while the publicist started going over things with him. While this was happening, Sebastian's phone went off so he excused himself to take it. "Hey Dad, what can I do for you?"
"I was returning your call from earlier." Xavier replied. "How was your trip Sebastian?"
"We had a wonderful time Dad; it was exactly what we both needed." Sebastian told him. "Right now B's actually getting ready for his interview with Jordan."
"Scott's going to be accompanying him, correct?"
"Yes, he actually picked us up from the airport." Sebastian replied. "With everything that is happening, I'm pretty certainly Scott's not going to be leaving B's side except to sleep. And when he's not here, his number two will be. Did you listen to my message or only see that I called?"
"I listened to your message Sebastian. I must admit, I was slightly surprised to hear that others know. But from the brief amount of time I spent around Blaine's ex, I shouldn't be. Do you know if he tried to get in touch with Rachel again aside from the time he spoke with Thad?"
"Not that I know of, but I can speak with Thad and ask."
"Why not speak directly with Rachel?"
"Because much like B, she's preparing for a big moment and the last thing she needs is to be distracted. With as much as she cares for B, it would be just that. If Hummel tried to reach her again, Thad would know."
"That's a good reason to not speak with her directly. She debuts this week, doesn't she?"
"Thursday night." Sebastian told him. "Speaking of, what should we do if he shows up that night because as of right now I don't think Scott will be with us?"
"Call the police if he gets too close for comfort, but don't overreact. He's supposed to stay one hundred yards away from Blaine. Yet from the conversations I've had with Mr. Sullivan, I have a feeling Scott or one of the team will be with you that night." Xavier said to him. "Right now, you and Blaine need to focus on what's about to happen and let Scott and his team keep an eye out for Kurt."
"Dad."
"I know Sebastian, that's not going to stop you from being on the lookout as well. But I'd recommend focusing that energy on Blaine and not the, what ifs."
"You've got a good point, especially since for the most part Scott's going to be with us and that's his job."
"Precisely. Now, go and enjoy these moments with Blaine as they're quite special."
"You're right, thank you Dad. While I know that, it's easy to get distracted."
"No need to thank me Sebastian. Please wish Blaine the best from us, alright?"
"Will do. Bye Dad."
"Bye Sebastian."
Once Sebastian walked back out into the living room, Blaine was standing in the living room all alone. "I was hoping you'd come back soon." Blaine said to him as he reached a hand out. "We've only got a few minutes till we leave and I wanted to enjoy them with you."
"Where are they?"
"Out in the hall with Scott. Do I look alright?"
"I wouldn't use the word alright to describe how you look B." Sebastian told him as he took ahold of Blaine's hand. "In any other situation, I'd be picking you up and taking you to bed."
"You can always do that once we get home." Blaine said with a smile. "We'll just have to make sure we take our time taking these clothes off since they aren't mine." A soft laugh escaped from the both of them. "I'm really glad you're coming with me."
"I'm glad you wanted me to." Sebastian then caressed Blaine's cheek with his other hand. "You look more relaxed now than earlier."
"I took what you said earlier to heart, plus you helped in other ways."
"Glad to be of service." When Blaine laughed again, Sebastian waited for a moment before leaning down to kiss him gently. "We should probably get going so they don't have to knock."
"That's probably a good idea. Let's do this!"
The trip to the studio seemed to fly by, which was a bit of a relief as traffic certainly wasn't light that evening. Once they made their way up to the studio, they were met by Vincent before even walking through the doors. After a brief conversation, they made their way inside and were soon led to the green room. Since this wasn't the first time Blaine had been there, he already had a good idea of how things were going to go. They'd barely been there for ten minutes when Jordan came walking into the room with a big smile on her face.
"This is certainly one way to come back from vacation, isn't it?" She said to Blaine after giving him a hug.
"It is." Blaine replied. "Are things still on schedule?"
"They are." Jordan told him. "Now, have you been brought up to speed about what we're going to talk about?"
"I have." Blaine said before glancing over at his publicist. "So, we're good to go."
"Excellent. You should know, others in the studio have heard the snippet we're going to play and can't wait to hear the complete track." When Blaine got a smile shy on his face, Jordan smiled. "You need to get used to this Blaine."
"As often as people tell me that, I don't know if it's ever going to happen."
"Modesty isn't a bad thing in your line of work; quite a few artists out there could use a dose of it." Jordan only said a few more things to him as she needed to get going but told him someone would come and get him in about a half hour.
Once she was gone, Blaine's publicist went to make a few calls leaving Blaine and Sebastian in the room along with Vincent as Scott was just outside the door. "Do you have any questions Blaine?" Vincent asked as he looked across at him on the couch.
"Not at this time, but should any come to mind, I'll mention it." After he replied, Blaine noticed Vincent was still looking at him. "What is it?"
"Vacation was good for you, both of you." Vincent told them. "I can't recall ever seeing you both this relaxed."
"The wonders of hours on the beach and no real schedule besides the one we set for ourselves." Sebastian replied.
"I have one of those tentatively set for the fall. Everyone needs to recharge their batteries once in awhile." Blaine and Sebastian each nodded as they were in full agreement with Vincent's comment. "Did you look at the updated schedule I sent you?"
"I did." Blaine told him. "I was a bit surprised to see more added for Monday considering I told you I have an appointment on Monday morning that I can't miss or reschedule."
"I know, but it won't interfere with your appointment Blaine." Vincent reassured him. "Just remember to dress appropriately." Blaine glanced at Sebastian after he finished and felt Sebastian take ahold of his hand. "Is there something going on that I don't know about Blaine?"
"My appointment Monday morning is with my therapist." Blaine replied before a soft sigh escaped his lips. "So, I don't know what sort of mood I'm going to be in when I leave. The last appointment I had was very…emotionally draining."
"But you did unload a lot B." Sebastian reassured him. "You hadn't been like that in a long time."
"With this new little bit of information, I'll see what I can do to push the first interview back a bit more even though it'll be cutting things close."
"I'm so sorry Vincent." Blaine told him.
"Don't be, just next time tell me ahead of time so we can schedule appropriately." When Blaine looked down, Vincent leaned forward. "Blaine, you have nothing to be embarrassed about as plenty of people see therapists."
"While I know that's the case, can this stay between us?"
"Of course, no one else needs to know." Vincent said before standing. "I'm going to give the two of you a bit of privacy as it's clear you need a moment."
"Thank you." After Blaine spoke, it was only a matter of moments and Vincent was out the door. While Blaine wanted nothing more than to rest his head on Sebastian's shoulder, he knew he couldn't. "You're right you know."
"About?" Sebastian asked as he'd let go of Blaine's hand and slipped his arm around him.
"That I hadn't been that worked up in quite some time." Blaine said as he looked into Sebastian's eyes. "I just can't get how drained I was after my last appointment out of my mind."
"That's because you had plenty to get off your chest B as everything that's happened has brought up a lot of feelings you thought you'd fully dealt with." Sebastian told him. "All your anger and frustration is understandable Blaine."
"I know it is. I just hate that…"
"That it brought up those feelings of not being worth being loved." Blaine nodded, and then Sebastian pressed a kiss to the top of his head. "I can tell you for a fact Blaine, you are more than worthy of being loved. So many people love you, besides me."
"I know that most of the time, it's just those other moments that are difficult."
"Well if you want, I'll be happy to remind you once we get home tonight."
"Is that so?" Sebastian nodded before leaning down to kiss him. "That would've lasted longer but you don't need swollen lips before going on the air."
"Good idea." As Blaine answered, there was a knock on the door which caused Sebastian to move his arm from around him. "You're going to come watch, right?"
"Absolutely."
Once Blaine headed off with the production assistant, Vincent had Sebastian follow him to where they were going to watch the interview take place. By the time they were settled in the room, Blaine was taking a seat on a stool across from Jordan and the two were laughing. "Is everything alright Sebastian?" Vincent asked noticing the way Sebastian was watching them.
"Yes." He replied. "Having Jordan interviewing him was the right move. Just as it is to have her hosting his release party."
"I'd have to agree. She's not only very good at what she does, but she and Blaine have an excellent rapport with one another." Vincent said to him. "It really helps having him so comfortable in situations like these. It's allowed him to ease into things." Sebastian was about to respond when they noticed the cameras moving into position and Blaine and Jordan composing themselves as they'd gotten a case of the giggles.
Once the segment began, Sebastian's eyes never left the scene before him as Blaine seemed to be completely at ease. Jordan covered all that Blaine had done since his previous appearance, before beginning to hype up his single. Hearing Blaine talk about it, brought a smile to Sebastian's face as Blaine spoke about embracing love and enjoying everything that it brings to your life. That was all the lead-in Jordan needed as they played a snippet from the single. While it played, Blaine looked around and could see Jordan wasn't kidding about how people felt about it.
After it ended, Jordan had a big smile on her face and tried to convince Blaine into letting hear a bit more. Once he told her she had to wait a couple more days, Jordan then led into commercial telling everyone that once they came back she'd let them know how they could get tickets to the release party on Monday night. The moment they did, Blaine and Jordan began to talk, and while they did Blaine's publicist walked into the room and handed Vincent her tablet bringing a smile to his face. The two didn't say anything which earned them quite the look from Sebastian who was curious as to what was going on.
Soon his own phone went off in his pocket with a message from Jeff. From what he read, Morgan had Jordan's webpage open and everyone commenting was already raving about the single. He then received a few more texts which told him the same thing from different sources. By the time Jordan was back on the air, Sebastian was searching different music sources and was reading the same things. Sebastian got so caught up in what he was reading that he didn't even notice others walking in and out of the room.
The moment the segment ended, Jordan escorted Blaine off stage as she needed to get back to work but told him she'd see him on Monday. Once she left his side, it wasn't long till Vincent and Sebastian were walking up to him. Considering the setting Sebastian refrained from giving Blaine a hug, but his smile spoke volumes. "I think you'll be happy with how things went." Vincent told him as before motioning towards the doors, letting Scott led the way.
"Why do you say that?" Blaine asked as they headed down the hall.
"Jordan's segment has enough of a following that you started to trend." Vincent told him. "You also caused an increase of traffic to her website." Blaine looked at him in surprise and Vincent was quick to reassure him. When Blaine looked at Sebastian he did the same as he'd seen it with his own eyes as well. "The only reason your publicist isn't here is she headed over to meet with Stephen to double check his club's capacity."
"She could've called." Blaine said to him before they stepped into the elevator.
"True, but there are other things she wants to go over with him."
"Speaking of, Jordan asked me during the commercial break if I was playing on Monday night or if we're only playing a recording of the single." While he spoke, he and Sebastian each slid their arms around one another and gave the other a squeeze.
"Do you have a preference Blaine?"
"I prefer to play it live." Blaine told him while also watching the elevator numbers decrease. "Once we do, a recording can be played after that. But the first time people hear it, I'd prefer it to be live."
"Then that's what will happen." Vincent said to him before handing him a sealed envelope earning him a look from both Blaine and Sebastian. "That's the presumable final cut of your video, I thought you'd like to see it and let us know if you have any thoughts."
"Really?"
"Yes, really Blaine as if you don't like it, it can be tweaked. Though, I have a feeling you're going to be more than pleased." Vincent finished speaking as the elevator doors opened causing them all to separate. They don't know how it happened, but in the amount of time since Blaine had gone on the air and now, there were people outside waiting for him. "Now you can see for yourself that we weren't kidding." Blaine looked at Vincent before getting a nudge from Sebastian who he handed the envelope, before heading through the doors with Scott right beside him. The moment he began to sign and take pictures, Vincent looked at Sebastian who was standing beside him looking rather proud. "He's already developed quite the fan base."
"I know." Sebastian replied. "He deserves it as he's worked so hard for this. From the first time I heard him sing in high school, I knew he'd make it." Vincent proceeded to raise his eyebrow at Sebastian's comment. "Yes, we've known each other since then. Others spoke of him in a way that I didn't think it was possible to be true, yet they were spot on."
"Are you telling me that tight group of friends that are around, are all from high school?"
"Mostly, yes though there are clearly a couple of exceptions." Sebastian replied while keeping an eye on what was happening. "I'm sure you wouldn't be surprise to hear Jeff is one of them."
"I'm not, as now seeing the bond you all have makes even more sense. Did you all sing?"
"We did, but not all together as by the time I got to Dalton, Blaine had transferred out for stupid reasons."
"I'm sure he wouldn't be happy to hear you call them stupid."
"Oh, he knows I think they were stupid and well, now that he's had time to think about it, he agrees." Sebastian told him rather confidently. "And just because Blaine didn't graduate from Dalton, he's still a Dalton boy, through and through."
By the time they were all in the car, Blaine looked at Sebastian who still had a smile on his face. "What are you thinking about?"
"You looked so shocked while signing and taking pictures, it was adorable." Sebastian told him before kissing him on the cheek. "Not to mention, it's cute hearing all those girls tell you they love you."
"One asked him to marry her." Scott added from across the car as he sat beside Vincent earning quite the look from Sebastian. "Blaine's face was priceless when she asked."
"How else was I supposed to react?"
"She could've at least asked if you were seeing someone first." Sebastian playfully replied.
"For your information Bas, I politely declined." Blaine told him as he took his hand. "Once I did, others began to talk trying to figure out if I just wasn't interested or if I'm in a relationship." Sebastian looked across at Scott who smiled. "They were coming up with some interesting ideas, yet none even said aloud that I might be gay."
"Probably because they weren't sure how you'd react if you'd heard them." Vincent said to them. "I know we've talked about it once before, but we really need to get a plan in place. Especially since Sebastian will be joining you at times this summer and there is a good chance someone will see the two of you together when you might not see them."
"That's fine with me, as I know I'm going to have to address it at some point."
"Sebastian, you do realize that should someone snap a picture of the two of you together you're going to get brought into this."
"I know, and that's fine." Sebastian told him. "I've never been shy about who I am, plus Blaine and I have talked about it in depth quite a few times already."
"He's right, we have Vincent." Blaine added. "We're not ashamed of who we are, we're just trying to keep my private life private for the most part. But we know at some point parts of it are going to get out."
"I was certain you were both aware of it, but I wouldn't be doing my job if I wasn't keeping Blaine aware of what could happen."
"I appreciate that." Blaine replied. "While I would love for a fuss to not be made about it, I know that's not the case so it's best we're all aware of what could possibly happen."
