#51 Grief
The funeral was a month ago. The flowers of sympathy and love were wilting and curling up. The relatives and loved ones were all back to their homes and had returned to their normal lives, except her.
She found herself stuck. She couldn't even bring herself to return to her apartment in Toronto, she remained in London, bunking in her old room. She just laid in bed all day, crying and mourning. Everyone was scared and didn't know what to do.
It was funny, George wasn't even her biological father, but the death of him struck her harder than the death of Dennis, her biological father, had several years earlier. George had become a Dad to her, something she had never had before.
He supported her in all her crazy environmental protests. He coached her and helped her succeed in soccer, hell, if it wasn't for George there was no way she would have earned that soccer scholarship to university, or follow in George's footsteps and major in Law.
George was the single most important man in her life, aside from Edwin of course. She was stuck and no one knew what to do.
One day, in the middle of her grief session, there was a knock at her door. Suddenly the door creaked open, "Liz?" Casey called, and let herself in. Lizzie didn't stir, which alarmed Casey. She walked over to the bed and sat down next to Lizzie.
"Please talk to me." Casey begged, and a moment later she heard a sniffle. "I don't know what to say." She replied, slowly sitting up to face Casey. "I'm just devastated." Lizzie admitted, tears now falling freely down her face. "I know Dennis was your father and dad, but to me he was just a father. George was my dad. He always listened to me, supported me and loved me. I don't know what I'm going to do without him." She said sadly. "Well Lizzie, we're all sad. You can't grieve alone, to really get through this, we need to be together in this. And George loved you Liz, you two always had a special bond, and I know that you both had an impact on each others lives." Casey said gently.
Lizzie grabbed Casey and hugged her, just crying until she couldn't anymore. She was heartbroken, but knowing she had family to lean on and love her, she started to feel just a little bit better.
