Five Years Later
Part 90
While they were getting ready to leave for the release party, they were receiving tons of text messages from their friend who were already inside. Sebastian kept glancing at Blaine across their bedroom and for the first time, he couldn't necessarily read him. "I'm okay Bas, so you can stop looking at me." Blaine told him in a rather direct way. "Any anxiety I was feeling, is no longer overwhelming thanks to you."
"I do what I can." Sebastian replied with a smirk before tucking his shirt in. "Also know that my offer for a blow-job backstage is still on the table."
"I appreciate that reminder." Blaine told him as he walked towards him. "But I don't think nerves are going to be an issue."
"Who said nerves were necessary." Sebastian said as he wrapped his arms around him. "Maybe I just want to indulge my B in a bit of the groupie experience." When Blaine smiled, Sebastian tightened his hold around him. "It could be fun you know."
"At a later date, not at my debut of sorts."
"Fair enough. You ready to do this as Scott should be here any minute?"
"I think so. I'm certainly glad that Stephen is hosting as that puts me in familiar surroundings."
"I think that's why Vincent set it up this way." Sebastian then lowered his head and gave Blaine a kiss. "And while I'd rather fall back into bed with you, we better get our shoes on so we're not running around." Blaine nodded before going to grab his shoes from the closet as they didn't have much time left.
While the two of them were waiting for Scott, the rest of their friends were taking in everything happening at the club. "I don't think they're going to expect this." Hunter said to Santana who was essentially on her own that night as Jordan was working. "This anticipation is crazy!"
"Tell me about it!" Santana replied. "There are certainly quite a few familiar faces around here outside of our immediate group. And from what Jordan told me about the people she's interviewed, people can't wait to hear the single, especially with all the snippets that were played today."
"Blaine was pretty smooth during those interviews."
"I thought the same thing from the ones I heard. Did you tell Sebastian how crazy this place is?"
"I have, but I haven't heard back from him." Hunter replied before taking a sip of his drink. "No one has heard back from either of them." When Santana laughed, Hunter looked at her. "Okay, that thought crossed a few of our minds."
"If it hadn't, I'd question how well you know them."
"I know them quite well thank you." Hunter then looked around the crowd. "Blaine deserves this, so they should be enjoying themselves."
"Agreed! This is one time we don't have to worry about Hummel showing up to ruin it."
"Has he tried to get in touch with Rachel anymore?"
"No, and this has been quite the relief for everyone." Santana told him. "With her opening in a few days, the last thing she needed was dealing with him."
"Well, if he tries to mess with her, he'll have to deal with Thad who won't let anything ruin this moment for her."
"Thad is only the start." Santana added.
"Trust me; I don't discount your reaction Santana. Speaking of, where is she?"
"Talking with Quinn, while Thad's talking with Stephen and Brad. He's as concerned as the rest of us about nothing ruining tonight for Blaine. But I'm pretty certain Scott has everything under control. All of Blaine's usual security is here, minus Scott, along with some others."
"Well, Scott not being here is because he's escorting Blaine and Sebastian here."
"He really is a part of Blaine's daily life for the most part, isn't he?"
"He is, but according to Sebastian, they barely notice he's around anymore." While he was speaking, a smile crept to Hunter's face causing Santana to look behind her and see Blaine's band walking in. "I guess Blaine and Sebastian should be here any minute."
"I'd say that's a fair assumption. Do you know when the video is debuting?"
"Sebastian said Blaine was given a copy of it the other day to watch, and he was more than happy with it. As for a debut date, if I remember correctly, it's sometime next week but things could always change."
"Have you heard the single?"
"I actually got to hear a bit more of it at work today, but not the complete track."
"And?"
"Blaine's really freaking talented."
"We know that Hunter."
"Santana, once you hear the whole song you'll understand why I said what I just did. Not to mention, he takes a subtle jab at someone."
"Seriously?"
"Seriously."
Before Santana had a chance to respond, the crowd erupted as Scott escorted Blaine through the crowd. It was clear; Blaine was a bit overwhelmed, but was enjoying the moment for what it was. The two then began to look for Sebastian who didn't seem to be with him, but soon felt arms drape over their shoulders. "I don't think B was expecting this." Sebastian said loudly enough that the two could hear him over the crowd. "Hell, it was crazy outside when we pulled up."
"How the hell did you get in here?" Santana asked as Blaine got closer to them as they were right before the stage in a VIP section.
"Back entrance." Sebastian replied before taking out his phone to snap a picture of Blaine making his way through. "B and I talked; we felt it was best if he made his entrance alone, especially with what he said on the radio. Don't want to add more fuel to the fire, especially now during his big moment. The talk should be about his single, not whether or not he's gay or if I'm his boyfriend."
"That's actually a good point." Hunter said. "Nothing should take the focus off him and his single tonight or the next few days."
"Our thoughts exactly."
The moment Blaine was within arm's reach, Jordan was beside him with camera crew in tow. "Is he playing tonight since I noticed all their gear is here?" Santana asked as she looked up at Sebastian.
"Yes, they're actually going to play the single live just before it's available for sale at midnight." Sebastian replied. "B felt that was the best way to do it, yet Vincent left the decision up to him which was a pleasant surprise."
"Considering he's sold-out every show he's played thus far, I'm not." Santana told him. "I've gotten to read a bunch of Jordan's research, especially about stuff that happened when he toured the Northeast, things were crazy." She then playfully slapped Sebastian on the arm. "Why the hell didn't you tell us?"
"It's because it was a bit overwhelming for B. Hell, it was overwhelming for all of them. They're all walking into a new world that they honestly have no control over."
"And it's worse for Blaine than the rest of them." The three turned at the sound of Jeff's voice as they hadn't seen him sneak-in. The way Hunter and Santana looked at him, Jeff glanced at Sebastian who was smirking. "It's true guys, if you don't believe me talk to any member of his band. The things Morgan told me shocked even me. I can't imagine dealing with it first-hand."
"That my friends, is why I'm glad Blaine got to choose his band and not get stuck with some random people." Sebastian said. "He's surrounded by people he trusts and knows will have his back."
Tempting as it was to talk more, they decided not to and take in what was going on around them as they had plenty of time to talk later that night. By the time Blaine was done making the rounds, one of the members of his security told Sebastian to head backstage as Blaine wanted to talk with him. When he made his way to the dressing room, Blaine was standing there waiting for him. "Please tell me it looks as crazy as it feels to me." Blaine said after wrapping his arms tightly around Sebastian.
"It's every bit as crazy as it feels." Sebastian replied before pressing a kiss to the top of his head. "When you came in we were all talking about it. They're all here for you B, enjoy it."
"I can't get over how many people heard those interviews today."
"I'm pretty certain everyone in here heard at least one of them." Sebastian told him. "Quite a few people were asking questions of everyone in the VIP section as they were curious as to how they got that sort of access. They were also asked about your special someone." When Blaine laughed, Sebastian couldn't help but smile. "Wes had to stifle a laugh when I was asked that. Once the person was gone, he laughed about how they happened to pose that question to me of all people."
"I'm sure you were ever so gracious with them."
"I was. You've got quite a few admirers Killer. Cooper would be eating this whole thing up if he was here."
"That I don't doubt." Blaine said before resting his head on Sebastian's chest. "You're going to be front and center when I play, right?"
"No place I'd rather be." The two then shared a kiss before stepping apart. "See you soon Killer."
After Sebastian left, Blaine took a few moments to himself before heading towards the stage where his band was waiting for him. During his walk down the hallway, he noticed all eyes were on him. When he reached his band, the girls quickly hugged him before the guys patted him on the back. Even with all the performances they'd done since their first, they all knew the importance of this moment. It wasn't long after that Vincent walked up to them and asked the others to head out on stage while he waited with Blaine. Considering what his moment represented, he was going to be making his entrance alone once Stephen introduced him to the crowd.
Once the introduction was made, the crowd erupted in a way Blaine didn't expect. After grabbing his guitar from the rack, he locked eyes on Sebastian who was front and center as he said he would be. The proud look on his face, and that of the rest of his friends was having more of an impact on him than he ever expected. While he more than grateful for everyone there, having his friends that he thought he'd lost back in his life for this moment was huge. Knowing this, Blaine was quick to thank everyone for coming before jumping right into the set they'd put together so his emotions didn't get the better of him.
While Blaine always seemed to come to life on stage, there seemed to be something special going on in this moment. He truly couldn't have put together a better set list as he was certainly playing the favorites that night. Hearing so many people singing along to originals even had his friends exchanging looks, seeing the impact Blaine had on them. It also reaffirmed what they all thought that there were more than a few familiar faces in the house that night. They'd been playing for more than a half hour, when Jordan made her way onto the stage once he finished their current number.
"I bet you all didn't expect this little treat you received so far tonight, did you?" Jordan said, hyping the crowd up even more if that was possible as she slid her arm around Blaine who'd moved his guitar to the side. "But now, it's almost time for Blaine to grace us with his first official single." Blaine glanced over at her and smiled before she continued. "Are you ready for that?" The crowd erupted once again. "Come now, we can do better than that. Are you ready?" When they managed to get even louder, Blaine glanced down at Sebastian who was smiling up at him. "That's more like it! I'm proud to introduce once again, our boy, Blaine Anderson playing Our Moment, Our Time! And in case any of you are curious, he wrote it!" Jordan then hopped off the stage and made her way to Santana so Blaine could start once again.
From the moment it started, Sebastian couldn't take his eyes off of Blaine even though he knew their friends were looking at him sporadically when they weren't looking at Blaine. The song was everything Sebastian and Jeff had described, along with what Brittany had told them. It was certainly pop with a rock edge, while being catchy as hell. When Sebastian started singing along, he got nudged by Santana who smiled up at him. The fact that he knew every word proved how many times he'd had the privilege of hearing it before anyone else.
By the time the song came to a finish, the crowd had caught on to the chorus and had been singing along as well. The way the crowd was reacting Blaine couldn't wipe the smile off his face if he tried. Once Jordan was standing beside him again, he was still in quite the daze. After handing his guitar over to Justin to put in the rack, Blaine thanked the crowd once again before getting them to calm down so Jordan could speak. While it took some time, Blaine glanced down at his friends who looked so proud of him in that moment. "Okay, okay, settle down everyone!" Jordan called out to them as Blaine and his band continued to try and hush them. "What did you all think?" When they erupted, Jordan laughed as she looked at Blaine who was shaking his head. "Nice to see we're all on the same page. Now, in a few minutes time that amazing tune goes on sale. Does everyone here plan on purchasing it?"
Having the crowd cheer once again, had Blaine starting to blush which Santana called him out on. Sebastian looked at her, but she had a big smile on her face. Only in a moment like this would Blaine get shy. "Good, as I've been told by a reliable source they already have the second single chosen. So, the better this one sells, the sooner we get the next. We all want that, don't we?" The way she was riling up the crowd, had Blaine looking back at his band who was now standing behind him. "Now, get your phones at the ready because it's available in the next two minutes!"
Blaine watched in shock as essentially everyone he could see took their phones out, including Jordan who was beside him. Being in the spotlight like this was new, even with everything that'd already been through. Once the song went live, Jordan showed her phone to Blaine as they watched the download happen. After it was done, they looked out to the crowd again as people were downloading it. Sebastian proceeded to call out to Blaine and with the help of Hunter and Nick were able to get his attention. They all watched as Sebastian tossed his phone to Blaine who didn't have his on stage. When Blaine looked at the screen, it was a text message from Cooper along with a screen shot of him having downloaded the single. He then went on to read how great Blaine was as he'd watched the whole performance on live stream with friends, who all purchased the song as well.
When he was done reading the messages from Cooper, Blaine had to wipe his eyes. He knew Cooper was proud of him, but his message reinforced it. Blaine mouthed a thank you to Sebastian before tossing him back his phone which he caught with a big smile on his face. "Does everybody have it?" Jordan called out curious to the reaction she was going to get as this was all new to her as well. But from the look she got from Vincent in the wings, he approved of how he was handling things. "Since everyone seems to have it, maybe Blaine and his band will grace us with some more music." Blaine looked at her, and Jordan had a big smile on her face. "What do you say Blaine?"
"Let's do this!" Even Blaine's own band cheered from behind him. When he turned his head, Talia was handing him his guitar so he didn't have to move. "I guess we're going to have to wing it, since we have nothing planned."
"We'll manage." Morgan told him before going to get her bass and the others went to take their places.
"I'm going to get you for this." Blaine said to Jordan once they moved away from the microphone.
"No you won't, you love this! Plus, Sebastian will protect me." Once she shot him a wink, she made her way off the stage towards Vincent so Blaine could start playing again.
It wasn't too big of a surprise that Blaine played his new single once more that evening before finishing out his second impromptu set which ended up going for about an hour. Since they had nothing planned, they ended up taking requests from the audience which covered the gamut of things Blaine had played through the months. By the time they left the stage, the adrenaline was flowing more than usual. While they all wanted to enjoy the moment, Vincent asked the band to go mingle while he spoke with Blaine who'd be joining them shortly.
Even though the single hadn't been on sale long, they were already getting some preliminary numbers in which were impressive. Vincent then told him, that the next spike would be after the national debut. But they were pleased with what they were seeing considered the limited pre-promotion. "May I ask you something?" Blaine asked once Vincent was done speaking. After he nodded, Blaine continued. "I know a video feed was getting set up, but my brother said he watched the performance via live stream."
"That's because this night was streamed on the label's website." When Blaine looked at him, Vincent smiled. "We sent the link to your parents as well as brother."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. You should know, the web traffic to the live stream was higher than expected. People that haven't had the pleasure of hearing you live are commenting up a storm hoping you'll be coming to their area."
"Is that going to happen?"
"Some are going to have the chance this summer, and the rest will be discussed. But you know a lot depends on how things go these next few weeks." Blaine acknowledged that, as he knew it to be true. "Now go enjoy this a bit because you're going to have to head home soon as you've got another long day tomorrow and it starts early."
"That's something I'm well aware of."
Once Blaine made his way out into the bar, the crowd went a bit crazy once again. With the help of his security, he made his way into the VIP section to join his friends who were quick to embrace him. "We're so proud of you Blaine!" Wes told him after releasing him from a hug. That was a sentiment that seemed to be coming from each and every one of them.
"Thank you, all of you!" Blaine replied as he looked at all of them. Having so many of his friends there for his moment was huge for him. And those that weren't in attendance had all sent him congratulatory texts throughout the day. "I feel like I should be saying more, but right now I'm at a loss for words."
"If there was ever a time to be at a loss for words Blaine, this is it!" Thad told him and the others all quickly agreed. "Your single, is amazing!"
"He's right, now we know why Brittany was so in love with it!" Santana added. "She told us all we'd love it, and she's right."
"I told you that you'd love it too!" Sebastian said from his spot beside Blaine, doing his best to refrain from wrapping him up on his arms.
"Yes, you did too!" Rachel told him before giving Sebastian's hand a squeeze. "I now know why you were listening to it all the time."
"And now I can listen to it freely, without headphones."
"When are we going to see the video?" Nick asked as he poked his head around Jeff.
"Next week, so you'll have to text me your thoughts on it."
"Have you seen it yet Sebastian?" Quinn asked as she looked at him.
"We watched it on Sunday, and you're all in for quite the treat." Sebastian replied. "Even though Jeff and I were there when it was being filmed, I didn't notice something completely obvious when it was happening."
"What is it?"
"You'll have to watch and see." Blaine told them. "But if you listen to the song, it tells a bit of a story that gets referenced throughout."
"Is Brittany part of it?" Morgan asked as now her curiosity was getting the better of her.
"Brittany's a big part of it." Blaine replied just as Scott began making his way towards them. "Looks as though I need to get going as I've got an early start ahead of me and need to get some sleep. Thank you all so much for coming tonight! I really can't describe what this all means to me."
"I think we've got a good idea." Wes said to him. "We'll all be listening, right guys?" Once they all answered, Scott tapped Blaine on the shoulder. "We'll see you at your show, technically tonight."
"I'll see you guys then." Blaine then looked up at Sebastian. "Ready to go Bas?"
"Yea. You guys keep this party going, okay?"
"We can do that." Jeff told him. "Don't keep your private party going too long."
"We won't." Sebastian smiled before they all said their goodbyes and headed down the back hallway once again. Once they were in private, Sebastian scooped Blaine up in his arms and the two kissed. "Do you realize how long I've wanted to do that?" Sebastian said to him once they started to walk again.
"Probably as long as I've wanted to do it." Blaine replied before looking at Scott. "How are we getting out of here?"
"The car is already down the alley which was blocked off so the two of you could leave together." Scott told him. After the looks he earned, Scott laughed. "Vincent felt it was only right since the two of you couldn't share tonight together. And since the others aren't leaving with you, Sebastian would be rather noticeable." They each nodded as they knew he was right as Sebastian leaving when he left with the rest of the band wasn't an issue. "Now, get in as we need to get you home, only to get started again in a few hours."
Once they were gone, the others were doing their part to keep the party going even without Blaine present. With the single available, it got played numerous times due to crowd request which had Blaine's friends savoring the moment. "Are you looking forward to playing highlights from tonight on your show tonight?" Quinn asked Jordan, as she was well aware of the time.
"I am, this moment was more than I could've imagined so I can only wonder how it all feels for Blaine."
"He's overwhelmed; you can see it in his eyes." Jeff stated. "While he's enjoying it, you can see he's stunned by all of this."
"Are the rest of you shocked?" Santana asked as Blaine's whole band was with them.
"I know I am." Justin replied. "Blaine's fans have always been energetic, but this reaction wasn't something any of us expected."
"Justin is right." Talia added. "Everyone that is here tonight came to hear the single, that's it. They had no idea we were going to be performing. Vincent was set to play the studio recording, but Blaine wanted to play it live."
"It's the performer in Blaine." Nick stated.
"True, but he felt if people were coming to hear it, he wanted them to hear it live." Todd said to them.
"That doesn't surprise me." Thad replied. "It completely fits his personality." Thad then looked at Rachel who was looking up at him. "What are you thinking Rach?"
"I'm just really happy for him, that's all."
"That's a feeling we're all sharing in his moment." Wes said. "For everything he's been through, he deserves all the good things that are coming to him."
"Do you guys know when Blaine's first interview is later today?" Quinn asked as she looked around.
"Eight." Morgan told her. "That why they got him out of here, it's so he can get some sleep before his big day. While some might think he's schedule leading up to tonight was crazy, tomor…today is even fuller."
"Not to mention we've got a gig at the end of it as well." Todd added. "So, he'll essentially be on the go from the moment he gets up. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if they scheduled some downtime into his schedule for a nap."
"One would hope." Santana stated. "Otherwise he'd be running on fumes by the time the show is to start."
"Vincent isn't going to let anything happen to Blaine, so you can all relax." Jordan told everyone. "He knows how important this all is for Blaine so he's not going to do anything to jeopardize it. The one thing you should all know, is once Blaine's single plays on the radio, the best thing we can all do is request it. The more requests the more airplay it gets, plus hype it every way you can on social media."
"Doesn't Blaine have a PR firm to do that?" Rachel asked.
"Yes, but PR driven hype can get old pretty quick. It's up to those close to him and his fan base to help drive things."
"So, the fact that we let his alma mater know was a good thing." Wes said as he looked at Jordan.
"Absolutely. The more word of mouth, the better. While I have no doubt it's going to hit big, that doesn't mean one should assume. And I know you all want this to hit big for him."
"You're right, we do." Nick told her. "We should do everything we can to give Blaine that extra push. While we all know a lot of the same people, our social circles grew in college, so we can reach even more people."
"Sounds good to me." Jeff said which didn't surprise anyone since it came from Nick, but he had a good point. "Wes, you take the lead when it comes to Dalton alumni and the rest of us will do what we can from our end." Jeff then looked at Rachel, Santana, and Quinn. "Ladies, you need to see what you can do to get McKinley on board. While we use social media a ton, we all know teenagers are crazy. All it'll take is something from the right source to get the ball rolling."
"Rachel, since you have rehearsal tomorrow, Quinn and I will take care of things on our end." Santana told her. "And I think I know exactly how to get things rolling. Fabray, you in?"
"Absolutely."
