Five Years Later

Part 91

While Blaine had looked through his schedule for this day numerous times, he never wondered why the radio interviews were being done in the order that they were. Yet after doing the two big morning shows based in the city, they made their way towards another studio for the national drop. He and Sebastian were speaking with Vincent when Sebastian nudged Blaine in the side when someone passed them in the hall. After spotting him, Blaine looked up at Sebastian who nodded before looking back at Vincent. "What is he doing here?" Blaine exclaimed quietly as to not cause a scene as his publicist was speaking with the show manager.

Vincent smiled as he looked at the shocked expressions on both of their faces. "He's in New York for a show, so he's doing his radio show here for the next couple of days." Vincent told them. "So, having the opportunity to have him launch your single is huge Blaine. People not only listen on the radio, but stream his show online."

"Wait…I'm doing his show?" Once Blaine's breathing began to pick up, Sebastian began to rub his back to help calm him. This was one case, where Sebastian completely understood Blaine freaking out. "I freaking listen to his show!"

"Then you know the reach his show has." Vincent said to him. "Everyone in your genre of music wants him to be the one to launch their new stuff because of his vast audience."

"I do. I just don't get why he'd want to help launch a new artist."

"He does it quite a bit, actually." Vincent assured him. "The thing is Blaine, often once he plays an artist; you tend to hear them everywhere. So if you didn't catch the initial launch, you heard it elsewhere soon afterwards."

"Has he heard Blaine's single yet?" Sebastian asked as Blaine was finally starting to calm down.

"He was played an extended snippet, and wanted to be the one to release the song nationally." Blaine looked up at him, surprised by what he'd heard. "I'm serious Blaine, and when he asks, record labels say yes. It's one of the reasons he gets played snippets ahead of time."

"Any reason you didn't tell him in advance?"

"Probably, so I didn't get overwhelmed any more than I am in his moment." Blaine said before glancing up at Sebastian and smiling. "I'll be okay Bas, honest. I just wasn't expecting this sort of push." He then moved closer and kissed Sebastian on the cheek. "Are there any more surprises on the agenda for today, or is this it?"

"This is it Blaine, promise. Since you're a fan of the show, you know he tapes it as well and airs interviews on his website."

"I'm well aware of that fact." Blaine replied. "At least now the need to be styled this morning makes even more sense." Vincent smiled before looking at Sebastian.

"Since his studio is pretty big, you can sit in with him and not watch from outside the glass." When Sebastian tilted his head, Vincent nodded. "We'll all be in there so you won't look out of place. Just know most are going to assume you're part of his team."

"Well, I am, just in a different sense." The laugh that escaped him once he finished mixed with both Blaine and Vincent's as well. "Are you okay with me joining you B?"

"I'm more than okay with it. Actually, it'll be just what I need to make sure my nerves don't get the better of me in such a big moment."

Before anything else could be said, they were being escorted to a green room as they'd be heading into the studio in a matter of minutes. With this new bit of information, Sebastian was quick to send a text out to their friends letting them know. While they knew the single was getting released nationally, they didn't realize it was going to be to this scale. After receiving this text, Santana looked across the table at Quinn as the two had been doing their part since they got up that day. "What did Coach Sylvester say when you spoke to her?" Quinn asked as Blaine's single played in the background.

"She was shocked, and honestly thought I was playing a joke on her till I told her to go buy the song." Santana replied. "Then once she saw it, it was proof that I wasn't. After listening to it with me on the line, she had to admit that young Burt Reynolds is actually really talented and was going to play it for the Cheerios. What about Mr. Schue's reaction?"

"He couldn't believe that he didn't know all this was happening for Blaine." Quinn told her. "He downloaded the song while we spoke. It wasn't even halfway over as he played it like Sue did, when he was raving about it. He took that enthusiasm to another level when I told him Blaine wrote it as he had no idea he was a song writer or could write music."

"No one seemed to know." Santana stated. "Kurt never mentioned it to anyone which is crazy considering how many songs Blaine has written through the years." When Quinn's eyes widened, Santana tilted her head. "What is it?"

"Kurt's going to freak when he hears it!" Quinn said point blankly to her.

"Those lyrics could be about anyone."

"Yet we know, they're about him."

"We presume they are." Santana added. "Though, I've got a good idea the parts about falling when looking into green eyes is about Sebastian. The fact that Blaine was vague enough truly covers his ass in that regard. Only those that know him will have an idea who it's about."

"True and it's technically about falling in love. While you might not have realized it at first, once the moment presents itself, you grab on and don't let go." Quinn then hit pause on the player and turned on the radio so they could hear the live broadcast. "Do you know what compelled Blaine to go to Sebastian after all that time?"

"No, and I've asked plenty of times. Safe to say, that's something we're never going to be privy to."

"Whatever it was, I'm glad it happened as they're so right for one another in ways I can't explain."

"That's something we can all relate to in a way." Santana said. "Now that we're all a bit older, we realize we need someone that compliments us and not someone who is like us." She was about to say something else when Quinn hushed her as Blaine was introduced. Upon hearing that you could see the interview online as well, Quinn grabbed her laptop pull the interview up. While they could clearly hear nerves in the beginning, it didn't take long for Blaine to get comfortable. Once Blaine started to talk about what inspires him to write, it didn't surprise them to hear that life and everything around him influences him. It was only a matter of what inspires him at a given moment.

That was all the lead up that was necessary for the host to set up Blaine's single. The moment it began to play, Blaine sat back in his chair before glancing at Sebastian and Vincent who were all gauging the reactions of those in the room. Even with as many times as he'd heard it, Sebastian started to quietly sing-a-long. Finally being able to enjoy it aloud was something that he was clearly embracing. While it played his phone as well as Blaine's was going off with messages from their friends. Yet unlike Blaine, Sebastian was able to respond to them.

One of the best messages Sebastian had received had come from Wes as the boys at Dalton were certainly doing their part in promoting one of their own. Plus, one of the heads of the alumni association was now a teacher so he'd spoken with the Headmaster. All of those attending Dalton were aware of what was happening. And to quote the Warblers even though Blaine had left, once a Warbler, always a Warbler and the rest of Dalton was embracing those feelings as well.

When they left the studio this time around, Blaine was thrilled to hear they were going to grab lunch before the next set of interviews started. Unlike the others he had done, this one lasted quite a bit longer as they'd talked quite a bit both before and after the song was played. Beyond introducing Blaine's music to the audience, they got to know him a bit as well. They were just getting off the elevator when Blaine stopped in this tracks as he looked outside the doors where a crowd had gathered. "Guess you should be getting used to this Killer." Sebastian told him as he glanced down at him as Blaine looked up at him.

"Sebastian is right." Vincent replied. "Did you see the way the phones lit up during and after your song played?" Blaine nodded. "Good, and that's nothing compared to the way social media reacted. We've got quite a bit to talk about over lunch." Vincent then saw Blaine take a deep breath. "Ready to do this Blaine?" He nodded once more and soon he and Scott headed for the doors, immediately followed by Vincent, Sebastian, and his publicist. While things had been a bit crazy after his television interview, this time around things seemed crazier.

By the time Scott got Blaine into the awaiting car, he immediately relaxed against Sebastian. "Where did they all come from?" Blaine asked as he took ahold of Sebastian's hand, grounding himself in a sense. "Isn't school still in session?"

"Those were college aged kids Blaine, much like yourself and Sebastian." His publicist told him. "It's the core audience you've been playing to since you started. And while you've played some all ages shows, most have been to the twenty-one and older age group."

"She's right. But now that your music is on the radio and you'll be going on tour your appeal will expand." Vincent added.

"Also, since I know your friends are helping with the PR blitz, let them know the lyric video for the song is now available."

"Since when?" Blaine asked as he and Sebastian looked across the car as they drove through the city.

"About five minutes ago." She replied. "I've already tweeted the link from the label's account, so feel free to put it out there." She'd barely finished when Sebastian pulled his phone from his pocket to do just that. He knew he wouldn't have to say a word as all of their friends would be watching his and Blaine's accounts through the day though his was going to get more attention. "Already taken care of Sebastian?"

"Yep! You'll want to send it to Cooper, B since I know he's got a few of his high profile friends pimping you out as well." Sebastian's comment earned a look from Vincent as well as the publicist who pulled their phones out to start doing some research. While they did so, Sebastian lowered his head just as Blaine turned his allowing the two to kiss. Once the kiss broke, Blaine took his phone out and soon shook his head with all the messages he had before sending one to Cooper with the link.

"This is more than you could've asked for Blaine." His publicist exclaimed. "These are some big time stars talking about you and your song. Your brother did this?"

"He had a listening party of sorts last night with a bunch of his friends. They all loved it according to the messages he sent me and Sebastian."

"What does your brother do Blaine?"

"He's an actor. Have you ever seen those free credit rating commercials?" She nodded. "That's my brother Cooper. He's also done some spots on some television shows. He's got the type of personality that everyone that meets him, adores him because he's so laidback."

"Regardless of the reason, he's given you a push that I wouldn't have been able of pulling off."

Once they finally arrived at lunch, Blaine was thankful for a back table as it allowed him to return a few messages without looking like one of those people he can't stand. Yet, he wouldn't have looked that out of place considering everyone at the table was on their phone at one point. But after a bit, he leaned back in his seat and began to listen as Vincent began to talk. Even though things had only begun, Blaine was surprised by all the information Vincent was getting. Considering the traffic they'd driven through, Vincent had already been informed of a boost in song sales. "I know you said you liked how the video turned out Blaine, but was it what you imagined?" Vincent asked.

"It was honestly better than what I could've imagined." Blaine replied. "I loved how it played out with the three couples while interfusing clips of us playing. And while I might be bias, Brittany was great!"

"You should know the editor was quite smitten with her."

"Which one was Brittany?" His publicist asked.

"The tall blonde, with the bubbly disposition." Blaine replied.

"How do you know her?"

"I went to high school with her." Blaine told her. "By the way, thank you for arranging wardrobe the way you did Vincent."

"You're welcome, though you should know wardrobe gave me a few looks when I gave them your request. Grey isn't a color they would've probably gone with." Vincent said to him. "They hoped you didn't object to the fact that the skirt was plaid."

"Not in the slightest since it was grey, black, and white." While Blaine spoke, Sebastian laughed softly under his breath hearing them talk about it. He still couldn't believe it took him watching the video to see something that was in front of him throughout filming."

"Something funny Sebastian?"

"That depends on your point of view."

"So, there is more to Blaine's request than I know."

"There is." Blaine told him as Sebastian set his hand on Blaine's thigh beneath the table. "If you care to know, I'll tell you."

"That's not necessary; it's just nice knowing you had a reason for your request and you didn't ask only to see if it would happen."

By the time Blaine was done with interviews for the day, he couldn't wait to get home and relax as he'd essentially been on the go since they'd gotten up that morning. Once they did arrive home, the two quickly kicked their shoes off before changing their clothes and curling up in bed together. With his head on Sebastian's chest, Blaine took a deep cleansing breath as Sebastian ran his fingers through his curls. "I don't know how I'm going to get back to everyone Bas."

"Don't push yourself B, especially in regards to those here in the city as you'll be seeing them tonight." Sebastian told him. "Plus, I'm pretty certain they're all aware of how crazy things have been for you today. So if you don't get back to them till tomorrow, it's okay. And if it's not…" Sebastian didn't finish his thought as Blaine tilted his head to look up at him. "I'll help you get it all sorted Killer, but only after we eat and sleep."

"I'm not hungry."

"You need to eat B."

"I know, and I will, just later." Blaine told him. "I'd much prefer to cuddle now."

"What about sleep as we both need it?"

"We can fall asleep as we cuddle." Blaine said with a smile. "Did you set an alarm?"

"Give me a sec and I'll do so." Sebastian replied before reaching for his phone on the nightstand. "I'll make sure we don't sleep too long since we need to eat."

"That works for me." After Blaine spoke, it wasn't long after that he felt Sebastian's arms wrap back around him. Even though he'd been the one doing the interviews, Blaine could see the day had taken a toll on Sebastian as well. So having this quiet time to themselves, was exactly what was needed before the show that evening.

While the two were curled up in bed, Santana was stretched out on the couch in the loft waiting for Jordan to call as she'd been at the studio most of the day. With all the footage she'd gotten the night before and with as late a night as it was, she needed help putting the footage together she wanted to use. She was about to grab her laptop off the table when there was a knock at the loft door. Since Rachel was expected home soon, Santana got up as she knew Thad was coming over for dinner. When she opened the door, a smile crept to her face as she stepped aside to let Thad in. "Why do you smile each time you open the door?" Thad asked after kissing her on the cheek once she closed the door.

"After everything that happened, I'm thankful that it's not Hummel on the other side." Santana replied. "What's in the bags, dinner?"

"Yes, dinner." Thad told her as they headed for the couch. "Rachel asked me to pick something up as she didn't want to go out and didn't want to cook as she's exhausted." He said as he set the bags on the coffee table. "And yes, I brought food for you too." The next thing he felt was a kiss on his cheek. "You're welcome."

"You're so good to me Thaddeus." Santana told him as she helped him begin to unpack the bags. "When will your girl be home?"

"A matter of minutes." Thad replied. "Did you and Quinn have a productive day?"

"We did, but nothing can compare to the support Wes got started. Even the official Dalton page was hyping Blaine." Santana said to him and saw him smile. "You know?"

"The Dalton page shows up in my feed. Plus, I kept tabs on things today as well. But I know what you mean, Wes contacting Dalton was huge. While the school got the information out there, the Warblers were crazy in their support and they're still going."

"Bunch of over-achievers." Santana replied playfully. "Quinn and I did what we could. Quinn spoke with Mr. Schuester and I spoke with Coach Sylvester. They were both shocked to hear the news. By the way, did you hear any of Blaine's interviews today?"

"Not live, but I replayed a few once I got home. The video of his one interview shocked me, much as Sebastian's text about it did."

"Did you see Sebastian in the background?"

"I did. This whole day has to feel like a dream to them both, albeit a very tiring one as they've been on the go all day." While Thad was replying, Rachel came walking into the loft and was quick to collapse on the couch beside Thad. "Are you going to make it to Blaine's show tonight?"

"Yes, but after a nap." Rachel said before kissing him and saying hello to Santana. "I can't wait to see the crowd after everything. I'm curious if they're going to be any different."

"If the updates throughout the day from Sebastian mean anything, tonight could be a whole new experience." Thad told her as Santana got up to get plates. "Will Jordan be at Blaine's show tonight Santana?"

"Yes, she will be. Speaking of, can you turn on the television as the news should be on soon?" Santana didn't need to ask twice as Thad leaned over and grabbed the remote and turned it on. By the time she returned, it didn't take them long to begin dishing up their plates. "When are your Dads coming into town Rach?"

"Tomorrow and that reminds me…they want to come to Blaine's show." When Thad and Santana looked at her, Rachel gave them a knowing look. "Trust me, I told them it's not a place they'd typically go to. Yet they remembered me telling them both the Andersons and the Smythes have attended."

"You do realize, last time Blaine's parents were in town, they watched from the wings." Thad reminded her before taking a bite.

"I know and I told them. Do you think the others would mind if they are there, I mean…they're not Blaine or Sebastian's parents?"

"Why would they mind?" Santana asked as she looked across at her. "The situation is more awkward for them than us."

"It's just; Blaine's parents, as well as Sebastian's parents had more of a reason to be there."

"No, I don't think anyone would mind." Thad told her. "If it makes you feel any better, my parents plan on attending Blaine's show in Ohio and it's not their scene but they want to support him. They would've taken in a show here when they come to see you, but Blaine's going to be gone."

"Your parents are coming to see Rachel?" Santana mumble with a mouth full of food which was very unlike her. She then looked at Rachel who was blushing slightly. "Very cool." She said after swallowing. "And Thad, your parents won't be alone as my parents plan on going to see Blaine as well."

"Well, I knew that wouldn't necessarily be the case as the rest of the guys' parents plan on attending as well. I guess all of our parents are going to get a chance to meet one another." The words were still leaving Thad's mouth when there was a knock on their door. The three all exchanged looks, when it happened again. "You've got to be fucking kidding me!" Before the girls had much of a chance to react, Thad was on his feet heading towards the door.

"Aren't you going to stop him?" Santana asked as she set her plate down while looking at Rachel.

"Nope!"

By the time Thad opened the door, Santana was kneeling on the couch looking at the door. "What the hell do you want?" Thad demanded once he set eyes on Kurt.

"Why am I not surprised you're here?" Kurt replied. "I want to talk with Rachel."

"That's nice, but she doesn't want to talk with you." Thad told him. "Haven't we gone through this already a few times already?" He then cocked his head to the side. "What would make you think anything has changed?"

"Maybe now that she realizes her supposedly innocent Blaine is a spiteful asshole, just like the rest of you Dalton boys."

"Excuse me?" Thad replied, and by this point both girls were watching the exchange. "But Blaine is not a spiteful asshole."

"Not going to defend his innocence?"

"We're adults Hummel, none of us are innocent." The look on Thad's face when he spoke had Kurt rolling his eyes. "What has Blaine done now to get you riled up?"

"You know exactly what he's done!"

"If I knew, I wouldn't be asking." Thad replied, even though he knew darn well why Kurt was there. Even though Blaine hadn't confirmed it, they all knew Blaine's single was about his relationship with Sebastian. "Not to mention, Blaine's been a bit busy since he got back to town so I don't know what he could've possibly done."

"Right, like you haven't listened to his song that is all over the freaking airwaves."

"Oh, I've listened to the song quite a bit since I was at the release party last night. And I downloaded it as soon as it was available for purchase."

"You're a jackass Harwood!"

"Why the hell are you fucking pissed?"

"He's flaunting his freaking relationship with Sebastian

"Actually, it could be anyone." Santana chimed in from the couch. "With green eyes at least, or if you change the eye color, anyone."

"Santana's got a good point." Rachel added. "The song is about finding love and embracing it regardless of what others might think."

"I can't believe you're supporting him Rachel!"

"I can't believe you're making a fool out of yourself over a song that could be about anyone!"

"Rachel!" Kurt said as he tried to take a step closer but was instantly pushed back by Thad. "Don't you dare touch me!"

"You're not welcome in their home! Not to mention, you're the last person to tell someone else not to touch them." Thad spouted back as there was no way he was going to let Kurt enter the loft. "You would think by now you would realize actions have consequences! Your treatment of Blaine has cost you your relationship with Rachel! Now leave and don't come back!" Kurt tried to step forward again, but Thad shoved him even harder causing him to stumble back. As he slammed the door shut, they heard a thud which they could only presume was Kurt falling. "Sorry about that." Thad said as he came walking back towards them.

"Don't be as you were nicer than I would've been." Santana told him prior to him sitting back down on the couch. "Personally, I thought he was going to be pissed that Blaine took a jab at an ex in the song and not that it was about him and Sebastian."

"I don't get it either, but I am going to talk to Blaine once I'm done eating so he's aware of it."

"While I don't want him to leave, it might be the best for him to get out of the city for awhile." Rachel said as she tucked her feet beneath her.

"Don't say that to Sebastian." Santana told her.

"I don't plan on it as I know he's not looking forward to Blaine leaving. But Blaine should be enjoying this and not worrying about Kurt."

"Yet Kurt can't get near him." Thad reminded her. "If he comes near him, Blaine can have him arrested. Not to mention, according to Sebastian, Blaine is protected from him in other ways as well." When the girls looked at him, Thad shrugged his shoulders. "I can't tell you more, as I don't know more. We all have to accept that there is plenty going on around Blaine that none of us are ever going to be privy to. And it's not because he doesn't necessarily want to, but legally it's probably for the best."

"You clearly spend a lot of time with Sebastian and Hunter." Santana said to him. "But it all makes sense. When too many people get involved, things get crazy, and we've proven that. Everything seemed easier for Blaine to handle when everyone didn't know."

"That's something I've spoken with Hunter about numerous times. Yet, Kurt really didn't give Blaine much of a choice in regards to telling everyone." When Santana looked at him, Thad smiled. "I try not to bring the subject up to Sebastian since it's a touchy one. One is better off talking with Hunter in that regard."

"Understandable considering how Sebastian feels about Blaine." Rachel added. "No need for either of them to have to talk about the past more than necessary. It's as we all talked after the fact, Blaine's come to terms with it, so he shouldn't have to relive it because we're still doing so."

"Exactly! Thad told her before kissing her forehead. "And the less we all have to deal with them, the easier it'll become. I mean, each time I see him; I still want to go off because of what he did. But the less I see him; those feelings won't bubble up to the surface as often and it'll become easier to deal with."

"I'm pretty certain Kurt thought you were going to punch him." Santana stated as she looked across at him. "Hell, I thought you were going to."

"Tempting as it is, I won't allow myself to do so as it makes me no better than him." Thad replied. "But it did feel good to shove him out and presumably onto his ass."

"He unquestionably was bitching at you even once the door was closed.

"I don't care, he can bitch all he wants." While he spoke, Thad set his plate down before wrapping his arm around Rachel. "Now, let's focus on something a bit more enjoyable."

"Such as?" Rachel asked as she looked up at him as she'd curled up beside him.

"I don't know, maybe your debut in a couple of days. Or the fact that Santana's commercial went over big with the company and she's only waiting for a release date. Or that Blaine's song is dominating the airwaves since its release this morning." The entire time Thad spoke, he had a big smile on his face. And the girls knew he had a point, it was best to focus on the positive as Kurt's opinion and or attitude, really had no impact on their lives. All his little fit proved, is that he can't seem to accept the fact that Blaine's becoming a success, as well as being upset that he's not part of it.
