AN: I don't own LWD or the ESPY Awards

#53 Achievement

"Casey hurry up! We have to leave like now!" Derek Venturi yelled to his wife, looking at his watch. "Coming!" She called back, running out to the living room. "Well that was worth the wait." Derek smirked, eyeing his wife up and down. Casey blushed, "Oh hush,' she joked, 'you don't have time for a cold shower, so get your head out of the gutter."

The couple then headed out to their destination for the night, the ESPY Awards (still don't own). They were able to stay in their Los Angeles home, while hundreds of other athletes were flying in to L.A. from all over the country, just another perk of playing for the Los Angeles Kings (surprise, I don't own this team either!).

When the pair arrived at the event, paparazzi swarmed the entrance, quickly snapping as many photos as possible. The lights were blinding, but Derek and Casey were able to quickly make it inside the building. "I can never get used to that." Casey said as they walked through the lobby. "What can I say, the cameras just love me babe." He deadpanned.

As they headed to the auditorium, countless players, coaches, and other athletes stopped Derek. Casey didn't know half of the people who came up to the two, so she just let Derek do the talking; it was his night after all. Finally, they made it to the auditorium, and Casey was completely blown away at how huge the place was, There was enough room to seat at the very least, a thousand people, rows and rows of seats. A huge projector on the stage, a podium for speeches, and the greatest part, the stage, which was absolutely ginormous. "Wow" She whispered, lowing around in awe, "I know right." Derek agreed, in the same sound of awe and wonder as his wife.

The pair found their seats quickly and sat down, waiting for the ceremony to begin.

The night went on very smoothly, and although Casey didn't know anything about sports, she was happy to just be there for Derek. However all Casey could think of was one of the last awards being presented; Best Male Athlete. Derek had been nominated, and Casey would always remember that day. They were at a team dinner with some of Derek's teammates, their significant others and their coaches, when they told him. He was stunned; he thought they were just joking with him. Although he appeared to be cocky in almost all aspects of his life, when it came to his hockey playing, Derek was super critical of himself. He started to cry a little bit, which alone stunned because Derek Venturi never cried, but sure enough, finding out that he was better than he gave himself credit for, it was overwhelming, in the best possible way.

Finally, most of the awards had been given, and it was finally time for Best Male Athlete to be announced. The previous year's winner was the announcer and gave a little speech, "Athlete. What does that mean? Some say it's having skills or natural talent. Others say it's one who works hard in their sport to achieve a goal. I say it's a bit of both. Yes, skill will take you far, but to reach the top, you need perseverance, dedication, work ethic, sportsmanship, and heart. The following nominees are men who exhibit all of these traits, they are true athletes. And the nominees are.." Casey squeezed Derek's hand reassuringly, smiling proudly at him, he returned a nervous smile.

"And your winner for Male Athlete 2015 is Derek Venturi!" The announcer called, and suddenly the world went deaf to the two of them, all she could focus on was Derek. His face was painted in complete surprise. He slowly stood up, kissing Casey on the lips before heading up to the stage.

Finally, he made it to the stage and was handed the elusive prize. He stood for a minute, scanning the crowd for Casey, once seeing her he took a deep breath and started, "Wow, I am absolutely stunned. Thank you for everyone who nominated me and voted, it means the world to me to have all this support. I would like to thank my teammates, because without these amazing guys, I definitely wouldn't be here. I would also like to thank Coach Rogers, Coach Carter, and Coach Bernstein, these men truly inspired me and made me the player I am today. And last, is the very most important person in my life, my beautiful wife Casey. She has supported me, guided me, and loved me, which isn't always easy. She is truly a blessing and the best thing my life, she taught me confidence, hardwork and made me the man that stands here today. I love you Case. Thank you everyone." he finished walking off the stage. Casey hollered and cheered for her husband.

When he returned to his seat, Casey grabbed him in a big hug, planting kisses all over his face, "I am so proud of you ." She told him, lovingly. "Hey you wanna know the best part of this." He asked her and she nodded.

Derek leaned in and whispered in her ear, "The best part of winning is all the congratulatory sex we're going to be having after this." He smirked at her.

Casey just smiled, some things would never change, and with how perfect life was now, she was just fine with that.
