"Alright you two, go get your coats." Laura said, ushering both children towards the coat closet.
"Be good for your Aunt Gabby," Antonio said, following them into the hallway.
"We will. Can we go to the Museum of Science and Industry?" Diego asked, as he pulled on his jacket.
"I want to go to the Field Musuem of Natural History," Eva said, also pulling on her jacket.
"Hey, woah! We will go to the Field Musuem, then to Navy Pier for lunch and we will finish up at the Science and Industry musuem." Gabby said, putting an end to an impending fight.
"Awesome!" They yelled, before running out the door.
"Hey, you two! Forgetting something?" Antonio called out the front door as he held their bags for the night.
"Oops," Eva said, before they ran back to where their parents stood with Gabby.
"Be good. And we will see you tomorrow." Laura said, hugging both kids. "Love you."
"Love you too Mom," Diego said, returning her hug.
"Listen to Aunt Gabby when she tells you something," Antonio said, also hugging both children and kissing them. "Love you to the moon and back."
"Love you to the moon and back Daddy," they both said before taking their bags and walking to Gabby's car.
"See you both tomorrow." Gabby said, hugging them both before walking to her car and getting in.
"Bye," they waved as they drove off.
"What now?" Antonio asked, hugging Laura to him.
"Well, we need to do some grocery shopping, then we need to do some spot cleaning, then-" she said before he cut her off with a kiss.
"Not what I was thinking," He said smiling as they closed the front door.
Lakeshore
"Hey Matt," Eva and Diego said, walking into his hospital room to find him up and moving.
"Hey guys, spending Saturday with Gabby today?" He asked, high fiving them both.
"Yeah. We are going to the Field Musuem of Natural History, then Navy Pier and then Musuem of Science and Industry." Diego excitedly said, sitting next to him.
"Sounds like a fun day ahead of you both. I will have to join you all next time." He said, kissing Gabby.
"Definitely." Gabby said, smiling at her niece and nephew. "What did the doc say about getting a day pass for Thursday?"
"Ask me again on Tuesday," Matt replied, as the doctor walked into his room.
"That's right. Ask me again on Tuesday after all your scans." She said, looking at his charts.
"Yes ma'am," he replied cheekly as she left.
"Stop giving them cheek." Gabby playfully scolded, lightly hitting his arm.
"Take photos for me." Matt said as they got ready to leave just as Severide and the men of 51 walked in.
"I will. I see you boys will be occupied for a little while," Gabby said as they turned on a Blackhawks game.
"Bye baby. Bye guys." Matt said, kissing her and waving to the kids.
Field Musuem of Natural History
"Okay, where to first?" Gabby asked, as they stood in the lobby.
"Can we visit The Wonders of the 1893 World's Fair?" Eva asked, as they walked towards the exhibit.
"Sure." Gabby replied, as they walked in.
"And, luring millions to Chicago back 1893, the Columbian Exposition was a glittering showcase of architecture, culture and people around the world. Not only the birthplace of chewing gum and the Ferris Wheel, the World's Fair also marked the triumphant debut of our very own Field Musuem. Now 120 years later, the Musuem is opening its hidden collections to display the incredible treasures and artifacts that will bring to life one of the most spectacular events int he Windy City's history." The exhibit's curator said, ending her speech of the exhibit.
"Wow," Diego and Eva said as they walked around the exhibit, looking at different collections and artifacts.
"Now that is a bit of history for you both isn't it?" Gabby asked, as they walked towards the next exhibit.
"Yeah, what's next Diego?" Eva asked, looking at her brother.
"Before the Dinosaurs: Tracking the Reptiles of Pangaea." He replied as they entered the second exhibit.
"Take a journey across the globe with our Field Musuem paleontologist and his teammates in search of what life was like before dinosaurs roamed the Earth. On this special expedition, see first hand what it takes to find the perfect dig site and what supplies to pack-then start fossil hunting! See how a single rock layer can preserve hundreds of fossils. So start exploring!" The curator of this exhibit said, as they went around the activities.
2 hours later
"How was that?" Gabby asked, as they left the building.
"That was so much fun. We have to go again." Eva said as they got into Gabby's car.
"Definitely. How about we head to Navy Pier for some lunch andsome attractions?" Gabby asked, starting the car and pulling away from the curb.
"Can we go on the Ferris Wheel?" They asked as they came to a red light.
"Of course. Who visits Navy Pier and doesn't go on the Ferris Wheel." Gabby said, looking into her rear-view mirror.
Navy Pier-Connies Pizza
"Okay, what pizza do you want for lunch?" Gabby asked, as they sat at a table.
"Pepperoni." They both said, looking at the menu.
"Pepperoni it is." Gabby said, as a waiter came to take their order.
1 hour later
"We should do mini golf first." Eva commented as they walked around.
"What do you think Diego?" Gabby asked the 8-year-old.
"Then we can go on the Ferris Wheel." He replied, running up to the mini golf attraction.
"Sounds like a plan." Gabby said, following them.
2 hours later
"Okay, lets go tot he last musuem before we go home." Gabby said, as they got off the Ferris Wheel and walking towards her car.
Musuem of Science and Industry
"Pick one exhibit each." Gabby said, after they had paid.
"I want to go see Science Storms please." Diego said, pointing to the left.
"Earth Revealed seems interesting." Eva said as they walked towards the Science Storms exhibit.
"Welcome to Science Storms, your questions about the world begin almost as soon as we are aware of it. Explore the exhibit and science will answer your questions." The exhibits curator said as they walked in.
"Pick a storm you want to learn about," Gabby prompted as they walked around.
"Lightning," they both said running over.
"A lightning strike can inspire emotional reactions like few other phenomea in nature. While we've learned much since the earliest lightning experiments, there's still plenty to discover about electrical charges and magnetisim." the exhibit manager said as they watched a dramatic high voltage lightning up in the Tesla Coil.
"Woah," They said, watching intently.
1 hour later
"What's next?" Gabby asked as they walked out of the Science storms exhibit.
"Earth Revealed," Eva replied as they walked towards it.
"Welcome to Earth Revealed, come and get an up-close 'real-time' view of our planet Earth, in this new exhibit, Earth Revealed. Explore our 6 foot in diameter, solid carbon fiber globe as its dramatically suspended among computers and video projectors, loaded with data sets from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NASA. This technology transforms the sphere into a dynamic revolving globe that demonstrates the Earth as a living system." A voice over the PA system said, as they walked towards the globe.
"This is so much fun," the kids exclaimed as Gabriela smiled at them.
2 hours later-Gabby's Apartment
"DIEGO!" Eva yelled, before chasing her brother around the table.
"What happened?" Gabby asked running into the living room.
"He took my globe. Again." Eva said letting out a frustrated sigh.
"Give it back to her buddy," Gabby said as the door bell rang. "Hey just in time, dinner should be ready soon."
"Hey Shay, hey Alison." Both kids said waving to the two paramedics.
"Hey guys," they replied, following Gabby into the kitchen.
"Hey Eva, guess what?" Diego said, sitting next to his sister.
"What?" She asked, narrowing her eyes at him suspiciously.
"Spider!q" He yelled, throwing his rubber one at her.
"Aunt Gabby!" She screamed, running into the kitchen.
"What's wrong sweetie?" Gabby asked, trying to get out of the young girls strong grasp.
"Spider," she replied, pointing to the lounge.
"Its fake," Diego laughed picking it up.
"You young man, are so much like your father. Your dad used to do that to me when I was little." Gabby said, taking it from him and pointing into the cupboard.
"I think that it's a good thing that I am like dad." Diego said, getting plates from the cupboard next to the sink.
"Sometimes a good thing. Not all the time,' Eva said getting the napkins as they were having pizza and lasagna. Again.
"And you are so much like Mom." Diego said, as they set the table.
"Now that is a good thing. I can try and keep you outta trouble, while Mom and Aunt Gabby try and keep Daddy outta trouble," Eva replied, shoving him playfully.
"Do they always bicker like this?" Alison asked, while cutting the lasagna.
"Yeah all the time," Gabby replied, cutting up the pizza.
"Were you and Antonio like this?" Leslie asked, carrying over the glasses of water.
"Still are," Gabby laughed, sitting down in between Eva and Diego.
"Exactly how many years older is Antonio?" Alison asked as they ate dinner.
"10 years, I love being the youngest." Gabby said, taking a bite of her lasagna.
"According to Dad, you were cute but annoying." Diego commented, getting a laugh out of all of them.
"Yeah I bet he did. He was just annoying. Still is." Gabby laughed.
"I'm going to tell him you said that," Diego teased, making them laugh again.
"You can do that bud," Gabby said ruffling his hair.
"Can we play Monopoly?" Eva asked as they started clearing away the dinner plates.
"Yeah, you know where the board games are kept," Gabby said, as Leslie and Alison started washing the dishes.
"Come on Diego!" Eva said, pulling her brother behind her.
"Did Laura and Antonio ever think about having more kids?" Shay asked, drying the plates.
"Not sure, they would have their hands full though." Gabby replied, gesturing to Eva and Digeo who were arguing.
"Eva!" Diego yelled, pulling his sister's hair.
"Hey! You two keep going, you are both going to bed early." Gabby said, stopping another fight.
Next day
"Be quiet Diego," Eva hushed as tehy crept quietly towards Gabby's bed.
"You be quiet," Diego whispered back, climbing onto the bed.
"What are you two doing?" Gabby mumbled, rolling over and bringing them into a hug.
"Trying not to wake you up." Eva said, snuggling under the blanket.
"I was waking up anyway. Come on, pancakes for breakfast," Gabby said, getting up.
"Awesome!" They yelled, before running out to the kitchen.
Dawson Family House
"Mom! Dad!" Eva and Diego yelled, running into the house.
"Hey, you two. Did you have fun?" Laura asked, hugging both children.
"Yes," they said, hugging their father.
"Were you good for Aunt Gabby?" Antonio asked, hugging his sister.
"They were great." Gabby replied, accepting a cup of coffee.
"That's good. How is Matt?" Laura asked, as they sat on the back porch.
"Good, he is going home on Friday, but he is going to see about getting a day pass for Thursday." Gabby said, tucking her legs up under her.
"Hopefully the doctor let's him," Laura said, coping her pose.
2 days later, Tuesday-Lakeshore
"Matt, your scans have come back clear. You can go home this afternoon. Take it easy though, I don't want to see you back in here anytime soon." Dr Franton said, signing off his chart.
"Thankyou Doc," he said as Gabby walked in.
"You're welcome. I will see you this afternoon before you go." She said, before taking her leave.
"So, what's the verdict?" Gabby asked, sitting down next to him.
"Scans are clear, can go home this afternoon." Matt said, kissing her.
"Thats great baby!" Gabby said, kissing him back.
Thursday-County Cook County Criminal Courts
"This court is now in hearing. Sergeant Hank Voight, you have been charged with attempted murder and bodily harm to to Miss Gabriela Dawson and Mr Matthew Casey." Judge Mathews said, looking at the charges in front of her. "I call Miss Dawson to the stand."
"Do you swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth?" A man asked.
"I do." Gabby said, before sitting down.
"Please tell the court and jury what happened on the day of the attack." Mathews said, looking at her.
"I was going to check on a forensics analysis from my brother, Detective Antonio Dawson, when Voight approached me and asked if I was Antonio's younger sister. I replied stay away from me while walking backwards towards the precinct. He wouldn't listen to I continued to walk backwards. He grabbed my arm and spun me around to face him, I said don't make me scream as he pulled me into an alley." Gabby said, looking down at her shaking hands.
"Are you okay Miss Dawson?" Mathews asked, handing her a box of tissues.
"Yeah. He threatned to kill my brother, we struggled for a bit before I yelled for help. He slapped me and pushed me to the ground. I remember waking up a little while later in a room. It was in an abandoned warehouse in Coal City. I took out a non-traceable phone that I always keep on me and called Antonio, and told him where we were. Another man came in and they started hitting me. I remember everything went black after that. I remember waking up for a minute or two and saw Antonio holding me up. Then I blacked out, woke up in hospital a little later." Gabby said, finishing her statement.
"Thankyou Miss Dawson, that is all." Judge Mathews said, writing down the last of her notes. "Five minute recess."
Outside
"You've done great so far Gabs." Antonio said, hugging her close.
"I just want this to be over so I can forget about it." Gabby said, hugging him back.
"So do I." Matt and Antonio said together.
5 minutes later
"Court is resuming." A guard said, as they walked back towards him.
Inside
"I call Detective Antonio Dawson to the stand." Judge Mathews said, once everybody was seated.
"Do you swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth?" A guard asked.
"I do." He said, before taking a seat.
"Can you tell me what happened on the day of the interrogation and the day of the attack." Judge Mathews said.
"I was in hospital after I was shot on a routine bust. My wife and kids came into my room saying Gabby hadn't returned that morning from checking on the forensics analysis, I discharged myself against doctors orders. We found her with Voight and two other men standing over her in the abandone warehouse in Coal City. After we got Gabriela to the hospital I headed down to District 21 to interrogate Voight. From the beating she had received she was placed into a medical induced coma, I finally got a confession out of him" Antonio said, relaying what happened over the last two weeks.
"Thankyou Detective. We will now take a half hour recess for the jury to come to a conclusion." Judge Mathews said, as she left her chair.
Outside
"Hey, its nearly over." Matt said, handing her a sandwich.
"Thank god for that. I'm not hungry." She said, putting it on the chair next to her.
"Eat Gabs." Antonio said, sending a warning glance at her.
"I will later." She said, sending a glare back.
"Eat. Now." Matt said, pointing to her and then the sandwich.
"They are both right. You need to eat." Chief Boden said, as they joined them.
"I forgot you guys were here. Thankyou for coming." Gabby said, hugging them all.
"We just want to see this bastard be put away." Herrmann commented.
Half an hour later
"Court is now resumed." A guard said, as Judge Mathews sat in her chair.
"The jury has come to the conclusion that in recent events and the evidence provided. This court finds Sergenat Hank Voight..." Mathews said, looking at her paper.
