The Evil Inside Us

Chapter 15
I hate Delly so much. She will not leave me and Peeta alone when we actually are trying to work for our Literature class. Peeta helps me with writing my college essays because he is a great writer. We meet in the mornings and work on various things before our classes start. Delly always finds her way to come in our private study sessions and mess up things for the both of us.
"Peeta! I was looking for you!" Delly smiles sweetly at him and sits down next to him. She always seems to find us, even when I change our meeting locations a lot.
"Hey, Delly," He greets her without looking up from the book 'The Scarlet Letter' that we had to read for class. Peeta and I haven't been able to finish the last chapter because Delly was by us yesterday also.
"Oh and hi Katniss," She says less enthusiastic.
I wave my hand to her, but continue trying to focus on the book so I can pass the quiz that I know we will have.
"Dels," Peeta puts his book down and looks at her. "I really need to study with Katniss right now. We have to ace this quiz,"
Her face is priceless when she sees the rejection. "Oh, I'm sorry Peeta. I just wanted to spend time with you and Katniss," She says getting up from the table. "I'll see you guys later," She walks away slowly.
Peeta and I continue reading and discussing different topics about the book. Soon, I have to go to the bathroom, so I excuse myself from the table. I walk into the bathroom and run right into Delly. She gives me a small smirk.
"Katniss, does Peeta talk about me often?" She asks while applying more mascara on her eyelashes. She is wearing too much makeup for my liking.
I shrug. "Sometimes I guess," I say quietly, not wanting to talk to her.
"Sometimes I feel like you're taking Peeta away from me," She mutters to herself.
"Peeta's allowed to have other friends," I roll my eyes at her.
She scoffs. "I was his only best friend and now you've joined? Two is company, but three is a crowd."
"Well you interrupt us everyday when we're trying to study for Lit. I have him in the mornings and the rest of the day he's all yours."
"Whatever, Everdeen," She says closing her makeup bag. "Just stay out of my way," She warns me.
"I'm going to find her," Clove says reloading her guns on the table. I sit in my wheel chair, unable to do anything for anyone. I would love to be the one helping to find Rue but my injury prevents me from helping. Trust me, I attempted to get out of my seat but the pain and Peeta wouldn't let me move. I'm completely worthless right now.
"Jo's going with you?"
She nods her head, while cleaning her knives. "If we find where they are today, we'll come back and form a plan," She smiles shortly trying to reassure me. She, Johanna, and Cashmere have been going out everyday looking for Rue. Clove found Delly near the interstate by the Atlanta CDC. Clove couldn't catch up with Delly in time because she had a motorcycle with her. She has a strong feeling that something is going on over there and she wants to stop it and save Rue.
Johanna and Cashmere walk in the room with their weapons ready. "We'll be back soon Brainless," Johanna smirks at me before walking out. Clove and Cashmere follow Johanna, leaving me in the room by myself.
Peeta talks to Mags everyday, hoping to convince her to let us stay on the farm and help her. Mags isn't very keen to the idea, but she does realize that it would make sense for us to stay. I know that she is old, but she doesn't tolerate violence well. We need to stay as good as possible.
The sound of a chair scooting makes me get rid of my previous thoughts. I look up and see Annie, who is beginning to get a little bigger in her stomach.
"Hi, Katniss," Annie says quietly. I stare at her features and notice that her eyes have dark circles around them, and her hair is a little messy.
"Annie are you okay?" I ask her
She shakes her head. "I lost my bestfriend, then my husband, and I almost lost you," She says with tears coming to her eyes. I notice she is shaking a little, so I take her hand and rub it between mine.
"Annie, I'm really sorry. I'm not going to leave you," I reassure her.
"I don't know that Katniss. Finnick told me that he wouldn't leave me, and know he's gone," The tears slip down her face rapidly. The pain that Annie is in right now, hurts me a lot. I can't stand her in pain.
"Finnick didn't leave you. He's still there for you, Annie."
She doesn't respond for a while, so I continue. "Think about your baby, how he or she will give you a piece of Finnick," I steadily try to convince her. She evenutally nods her head and sighs.
"I just wish things could've been different."
"So do I."
"We found them," Clove takes out a map and some pins. She lays it down flat on the table and everyone surrounds it.
"They are in the CDC," Johanna confirms. "We saw Delly and Gale enter in the building earlier in the day."
"We haven't seen Rue, but I think she's in there," Cashmere says
Peeta nods his head, processing this information. "So now we attack," He states.
"But how?"
"I have an idea," I tell the group. All eyes fall on me. "Basically, we need a few people as a distraction, and two people to sneak in. The entrance has camera's up front, so the distractions will go up front. I know a place that the others can sneak in, undetected. Those two people will go up the back stairway to the 2nd floor where the lab is. After you enter the lab, there are multiple rooms located behind it. I'm sure they've discovered this and they set up their things there. Just find Rue and get out," I explain to them.
"This could be a suicide mission," Clove says
"Not if we do it right," I fire back.
"Then I'll go sneak in," Clove looks around the room to see if anyone rejects her.
"I'll go too," Cato volunteers. "If she's weak, I'll be able to pick her up,"
"We need to get them out," Beetee speaks
We all turn around and stare at him. He rarely talks, but when he does it is important.
"If we run them out, I may have the tools needed there to develop a cure of some sorts," He says
Johanna scoffs. "A cure?" She asks, doubting the possibility.
Beetee smiles before continuing. "Johanna, I was on the team that helped cure HIV and certain types of Cancer. I can attempt to find something that can help break the outbreak," He says convincing me and hopefully everyone else.
"Are we killing them then?" Cashmere asks
"Don't kill them," Mags says. "We have to have some humanity left in us. We'll decide how to handle them once they're captured," She insists
"Alright, it's settled then," I lay my hands in my lap and watch as our group get to work.
Hello guys, I'm still kinda on hiatus, but I will be off shortly! I was finished my exam review so I wrote a chapter for this on my computer and decided to post it. I'm sorry that I haven't been around for a while, but soon I'll be back! I know some of you are still wondering, why did Gale shoot Finnick. Well you'll find out soon ;) And I'm sorry if ya'll were upset that Finnick died like a few chapters ago, but I was going to have to kill him off anyway. One, because I have a list of characters that will live and that will die, and second I wanted it to kinda be a reference to Mockingjay, expect Finnick's death was not as graphic I guess.
