The Evil Inside Us

Chapter 16
Katniss, you're needed in the lab," A person tells me when I'm sitting at my desk.
"By who?" I ask reviewing my notes.
"President Snow wanted to talk to you," She says then walks out of my mini office. I sigh and get up. It's cool being in the CDC studying how they do all these things with diseases, but I never wanted to meet Snow. I've seen him in the hallways sometimes going to meetings, but he seems like a strange person. I don't trust him at all. How could he be the president around here?
I walk into his office in the lab. The room is a bright white color, it almost blinds me in a way. He's at his desk typing away at something. He breifly glances at me and motions for me to sit down.
"Miss Everdeen, your time here is coming to an end, sadly, but I need your input on something," He says
"What do you need?" I ask him, hoping he'll get to the point quickly
He slowly grins, but his smile makes him look pained. I get antsy because I don't want to be in the same room with this man. "What would you do if the world was in chaos?"
"Are you testing me?"
"Answer the question."
I sigh. I don't know why he called me here to answer a stupid question. "Well if the world was in chaos, lets say by some disease, obviously we need to get into the lab and start researching ways to cure this said disease," I yawn at the end.
"What if the disease were to destroy humanity?"
I shrug, not knowing where he's getting at. "Nothing can destroy humanity if we have people have faith, but I doubt it would destroy humanity either way because there is always a way out of things,"
Snow glares his eyes at me. I hope I didn't piss him off in the short time that I've been in this office. "Get back to work," He simply says pointing to the door.
I get up quickly and make my way back to my office. That was strange. What is Snow up to?
"I'm ready," Clove says strapping her gun in her boots. She sits next to me on my bed, loading her weapons and cleaning her knives. "So, we're going in, finding where they are, and restraining them?" She clarifies with me once again.
I nod as I watch her get her weapons in place. "We'll be outside waiting for you,"
"I really don't want you exerting yourself Katniss,"
"Well get over it. I'm going with or without an injury. I'm not even going to be doing much, but sit in the car waiting for you guys with Rue, Delly, and Gale. "
Cloves shakes her head. "Alright Katniss, just please stay in the car," Clove stands up and grabs my wheelchair. She brings me outside to the truck and starts packing her things in there. Peeta, Johanna, Cashmere, Cato, and Gloss step outside and start walking towards the truck.
"Some of ya'll have to hang off the side of the truck," Peeta says opening the truck up. He helps me into the truck's passenger seat. Cashmere, Gloss, and Johanna squeeze in the back, while Clove and Cato grab onto the bar on top of the truck. Peeta starts the car and soon we our on our trip to the CDC. I look out the window and see Clove gripping to the bar. Her hair's blowing with the wind, and she keeps looking back.
"You ready?" I ask them
"I'm always ready for anything Brainless," Johanna grins. "I can't wait to get my hands on Gale," She mumbles quietly and I know why. Finnick was her best friend during this and Gale killed him. She wants answers, and so do I.
"We're almost here," Peeta informs us. "Get ready,"
They've been gone for exactly 10 minutes. It's too long for my liking. Peeta stayed in the car with the, but I'm about to make him go in there after them. I wish I was in a condition to go in with them, it would make me feel absolutely better. I just need them to find Rue, Delly and Gale. In the distance, I see a couple of bodies being dragged towards us. Peeta gets out of the car and grips onto his gun. I see Cato running with...Rue in his arms. Behind him is Gale, but no sign of Delly anywhere.
"How is she?" Peeta yells to Cato from a distance.
Cato finally reaches the car and opens up the back door. "She'a fine. Rue sit up,"
Rue stretches out in the seat. "I'm fine," She simply says. "I just want to leave."
I turn to Peeta. "I need you to go back to the farm and bring Beetee with you. We have some business to handle,"
He nods and briefly kisses me before letting Cato take out my wheelchair and placing me in it. He pushes me towards the building and it excites me to be back at my place. The CDC was always a great place for me at some times. When we make it into the building, I see Johanna, Clove, Gloss, and Cashmere sitting down by a door.
"Where is Gale?" I ask Johanna
"He's in the closet. I didn't want to do anything until you were here," She says as she opens up the closet. I see a tied up Gale with a cloth over his mouth. Johanna takes it off him and steps back, waiting for me to speak.
"Hello Gale," I say coldly. "Why would you do this?" I simply ask him
"What specifically do you want to know?"
"I want to know why you killed Finnick? Why did you side with Delly? Why did you help partake in taking Rue?"
He sighs and shakes his head. "Finnick had to die. He was a threat to certain people. He knew too much about the outbreak. Delly made sure that he wouldn't remember anything by slipping him something. It was all coming back to him though, so she had me take him out,"
"What is this about the outbreak? Did Delly have something to do with this? And how was he a threat when the population of humans barely exists?"
"Obviously she did have some knowledge about how it happened, but she didn't do it. She'a just this guys helper or something. I was in this because she convinced me that I would be safer from walkers if I stuck with her,"
"That still leaves the question, why did you take Rue?"
He laughs. "Can you not see it? The girl has been a test subject. She's been bitten multiple times but hasn't turned at all. Delly's boss had a hold of her until she escaped to the houses that we had moved in. When Delly found her, she had to find a way to grab a hold of her and bring her back to him,"
How could Rue have been bitten but I've seen no signs of bite marks anywhere?
"Who is this guy? And where is he?"
"He's not here, that's for sure, but his name?" Gale nudges his head towards a door. I turn around and gasp.
His name is Snow.
Hello guys! I hoped you enjoyed this chapter! So let me clarify this, Rue does not turn if she's been bitten by a walker, but let's say if she was eaten by a few of course she would be dead, but she still wouldn't turn into one of them.
