#57 Worlds Apart

Lizzie and Edwin had a simple kind of love, they had always had it since day one. Sure when the two first met, they were just friends and any thought of being any more would have spured a synchronized, 'eww gross!'. But everything about the two had always been simple, there was no complicated about them, unlike their older siblings.

Yes Lizzie and Edwin, or Lizwin, were a simple kind of love, that is until their worlds started to have an opinion..

Lizzie and Edwin grew up into their own different and unique person, all while remaining deeply in love. Lizzie started dressing more alternative, wild, pattern clashing clothes, with a new hair color and style that changed very often, she was beautiful. In college Lizzie followed her long lived passion for the environment and studied environmental law. Edwin on the other hand grew up to finally grow into his own skin, different than his big brother's suave and cool style. Edwin had grown into a sharp witted, smart, persuasive guy, majoring in business.

Both had amazing, top of their career jobs in their fields, and at the end of their long, busy days they returned to each others loving arms, just enjoying each others company. They loved sharing stories about their different careers, enjoying the stories but respecting how separate they were.

One night, Edwin invited Lizzie into his work world, for a charity event that the company he worked for was a part of. Lizzie got dressed into a red high-low dress, with thick straps and lace short sleeves. Her hair was currently brunette, with a slight buzz cut off the left side. She parted her hair to the right and curled it into loose waves.

"Lizzie, you look absolutely beautiful." Edwin gushed as he got a full look at his gorgeous girlfriend. "Thank you hun, you look pretty handsome yourself." She replied with a smile, kissing him on the lips lightly. She went to pull away, when he grabbed her, gently deepening the kiss, moving down her neck sucking her skin gently.

He then looked at his watch, "Ooh it's 6:45, we better get going. We will be continuing this later right?" He asked with a pleading look. Lizzie smiled, "Definitely. Let's go." She replied.

The event was held in a huge dining hall, with round large tables, a huge chandelier hung in the exact center of the room. Lights, eloquent decorations the works. Lizzie was completely stunned and blown away by the place, larger than any function than any place her company ever held events at.

"Wow this place is gorgeous. But I'm conflicted because it looks amazing, yet I can only imagine how much energy this event is wasting." She joked lightly to Edwin, who just smiled, "That's my little environmental woman." and he kissed her temple affectionately.

Edwin then lead her over to his boss to talk quickly. "Mr. Turner?" He acknowledged, and the man turned around. "Edwin, good to see you my boy. And who is this lady next to you?" He asked, nodding his head at Lizzie. "This is my longtime girlfriend, Lizzie McDonald." Edwin introduced. Lizzie reached out her hand to Mr. Turner, "Nice to meet Mr. Turner." She greeted warmly.

After talking to Mr. Turner, the pair made rounds to a couple of Edwin's friends before they took a seat and the auction began.

After the event was over, Lizzie just excused herself to the restroom before Edwin and her went home. When Lizzie was in the bathroom stall, she heard the door open followed by the sound of multiple clacking heels against the floor. She tried to tune them out until she heard her boyfriend's name come up. "Did you see that girl Edwin Venturi came with?" One girl said snidely. "I know right, did you see her hair and tattoos? Like what is she paying him for him to be dating her?." The second girl questioned. "I bet he has a girl on the side." The first girl added. "Well I'd love to be that side girl, he is so hot." The other girl said, the two walking out shortly after.

Lizzie, still in the stall was crying quietly, realizing how right they were. She didn't want Edwin to see that she had been crying, so she quickly pulled herself together. When she got out of the restroom, she quickly started walking, forcing Edwin to jog to catch up with her.

As they walked to their car, Lizzie remained silent, and Edwin was worried. "Is there something wrong?" He asked her. Lizzie stopped quickly on her heels, "Yes. This relationship." She snapped coldly, continuing forward. Edwin reached out and grabbed her arm to stop her again. "What? Lizzie, please talk to me." He asked confusedly. "This whole relationship! It's kind of a joke. When we first got together we were young and had the same world, but now look at us, we're so different. I don't belong in this world of big money, fancy clothes, and luxury. I fight for environmental issues. I'm not what you need or deserve, you deserve one of those fancy girls in there with their thousand dollar dresses and their bouncy hair and perfect face. I can't be one of those girls. I'm sorry Ed. I think we both know we can't work." She said sadly, turning once again. "Liz, please. Where is this all coming from?" He asked her, searching her face for answers. "I heard girls talking in the bathroom. And it made sense." She explained. "Lizzie, it makes no sense, I don't want anyone else, only you. You are better than anyone of those girls. You're smart, passionate, beautiful, and you're perfect for me. I love that you have your own thing, it means you are your own person, a person that I adore deeply. You belong with me, we belong together." He said sincerely, kissing her gently on the lips. "Are you sure Edwin?" She asked, "Definitely." He replied, pulling her in for another pure and loving kiss, a kiss that Edwin would never want to have with anyone else.
