Chapter 20

Today is the day. The day where I find him and put this all behind me. Today is the day, I get my revenge on the one who was responsible for all the deaths that has happened to not only me, but others. On this glorious day, we'll finally be free from all the pain and suffering that was caused by one simple person, and his followers.

Peeta wants to wait until Annie gives birth to her baby, but I don't think we have time to wait. If we don't go after him, he's going to come after us. It's been a month since Cashmere and I have spoken about the situation. She's still with us, but she keeps to herself more. I know she secretly wants the revenge on him, as much as I do, maybe even more?

I slip out of the bed, careful not to disturb Peeta. He's still fast asleep, but I can't just sit here. I wander into the hallway, walking slowly. I hear a soft cry coming from Annie's room. I could be hearing things. I still walk over to her bedroom door, and open it slowly, just in case she is still asleep.

Her stomach has gotten bigger throughout the past months we've been traveling. I can hardly believe that almost 9 months have passed. Annie has been as strong as she's been able to be ever since this epidemic started, and since Finnick died.

"I'm awake Katniss," Annie says softly. She opens her eyes, and slowly sits up. "The baby's been kicking for a while."

"Does it hurt?

She shakes her head. "He's just too active at night. I can never get enough sleep." She yawns as she finishes her statement.

I walk over by her bed and sit down. "You think it's a boy?" I smile slightly at her and pat her on the back gently.

"I have my guesses."

"What are you gonna name him then?"

She shrugs her shoulders. "I'll figure it out when he's here," She looks at me, and smiles sadly at me. "Look Katniss, I'm not saying that I'll do something reckless when he's born, but if something does happen to me, please take care of him.."

I can't make a promise to Annie that she will live or will not. It's unpredictable these days for what will happen to anyone. I mean, I almost lost Peeta on the same day Annie lost Fin. So I simply nod and don't say anything else.

"Get some rest Annie. You're gonna need it."

I walk out of her room, and move on to the the front of the building. I find Johanna sitting down at the desk, watching something on the security camera's. I tap my hand on the desk to notify that I'm here. She looks up at me, then proceeds to watch the security cam. I walk behind her and watch with her.

"Are these the ones playing now?" I ask her

She nods her head and leans back into the chair. I notice something from the corner of my eyes on the camera.

"Rewind it."

Johanna looks up at me, confused, but does it anyway. "Stop there." I tell her, pointing towards the back entrance camera. "What is that?"

Johanna looks closely. I watch as her facial expression goes from a lukewarm expression to a frown. "Looks like we have visitors."

She starts to get up, but I stop her. "No, don't cause a panic, I'll go down. If anything happens, just get them ready," I instruct her. She nods her head, and walk/runs up the stairs. I walk into the lab to check if Bee left anything in here that would be useful to me. I grab a syringe thats still wrapped up in the wrapper. I know Bee filled these up with something, but I don't exactly know what he did.

I put one of the syringes in my boot. After that, I sling my gun around from my back to the front of my body. I move out of the lab, and head towards the back door that we saw our visitors at.

The door is open when I get there, and I know some of them got in. I sigh and reach for the alarm box. I smash it open, and pull it down. The whole building starts its chorus of screams.

My walkie talkie makes a noise. I grab it and bring it towards my mouth. "Get them out of here." I speak into the talkie.

"And bring them where Katniss? Annie is in labor," Peeta whispers into the device. I internally groan, thinking this is the time that her baby chooses to come out.

"Just get her and the kids out. Clove, Johanna, and you can come with me. Let Cashmere,stay with them, since she can probably help with the birth. Haymitch and Beetee can help with the kids. Tell them to go to the farm."

"Alright." And thats his last words for me.

I take the back stairs to get upstairs. We need to find them, and get rid of them. Personally, I would like to get rid of Snow by myself. Is he even with them, is the question. I hear footsteps running down the stairs and a woman, Annie, moaning in pain.

I grab Cashmere arm and pull her close to me. "You better take good care of Annie, she's one of the only ones I have left." My voice cracks mid sentence. Thinking of losing another one of my own makes me feel…dead inside.

"I understand."

I turn around to take a look at Annie, Prim, and Rue. "I love you all." Is all I say before I rush up the stairs. I run down the hallway and go into the main room to look for everyone else. I hold my gun in my hand, and turn the corner. Immediately, I'm pushed up against a wall.

"Fucking Katniss," Clove growls. She pushes herself off me. "You're lucky I didn't shoot you right then and there."

"You wouldn't have. Come on lets get them," I urge her

She starts walking towards the back of the the housing area, towards the bedrooms. Peeta and Johanna are sitting down on one of the beds.

"Come on, we need to get them out while we can,"

Peeta stands up and walks towards me. "They can be anywhere really."

"Well what would be their reason for being here?" Johanna blurts out.

"Maybe something dealing with Rue?" Clove throws out there.

I shake my head. "I feel like it's something bigger.."

Johanna sits up on the bed. "We know that the infection has worn off."

"They need the lab," Peeta say. "What else would they need from here other than the lab?"

"Let's go."

We hear them before we even get into the lab. I signal for them to stop and wait for them. I get a little closer to see if I can hear their conversation.

"I can't wait to get them out of the way," I hear Delly's voice say

"First, we need to get this building out of the way." A newer voice grumbles

Who are these people and how many are there?

Clove reaches to get her gun out. "If we're gonna do this, lets do it now." And she walks into the room with her gun out and ready. Johanna groans and follows her inside, and so do Peeta and I. Clove likes to get things done, but I'm afraid that this is not the exact time to do so.

"Hello Katniss," Delly smiles at me. It's a creepy smile, and it makes me want to rip it of her face. "We sort of expected to you all to join us."

There are only 4 people with Delly. We can get rid of them now and find out where Snow is.

"Why are you here?" I ask her

She laughs a dry laugh, like something is going to happen. I know something is going to happen.

"We needed to do something important and it will be fulfilled today, whether it's here or not," She picks up a gun, and looks at it likes its one of the best things that she's seen.

"Kill me?"

"Something like that."

Deadly silence fills the room. I don't know who makes the first move, but I hear the instant fire crack from the gun of someone. I fall down to the ground, praying that I avoid, and everyone else avoid whats being fired.

"We either get out of here now, or we fight them off." I say to them as I hear more bullets flowing out of the guns.

"I have the keys, come on." Peeta says.

I quickly get up, and run towards the door, turning around to shoot at one of Delly's men. It hits one of them in the leg, giving us more time to get out.

We turn down the hallway and run towards the back entrance where our cars are.. WI hear them right behind us, still shooting. How much ammo do they have?

"I'll drive," Johanna shouts. "Keep them off of us."

We all hop in the car. Peeta hangs on to the side of the truck and so does Clove on the opposite. Johanna starts the car and speeds away to the main rode. We see Delly and her backup get into their van, and ride away too, but they don't follow us.

Then it happens. It seemed like I was watching in slow motion. It looks different from the movies, way more intense and scary. The whole building explodes into flames. It's not just a silly fire, it looks like an actual explosion.

"Fuck," I hit my head on the seat when I remember. "Fucking Gale was still in the building!" My heart aches for many different things. Wishing this never happened, wishing there wasn't a whole big plot twist for the reason why walkers even existed, wishing that Gale and I stayed friends, instead of being together, wishing that this life didn't even exist.

"Fuck me." I hear Clove breathe out. She and Peeta throw themselves back into the car. I rest my head on Peeta's shoulders, trying to distract myself for everything that has happened today.

"Let's just get back to the farm and regroup from there." Clove mumbles. I can tell she didn't really like how this thing went. I still don't know how I'm feeling about this.

"We'll get them."

Clove probably is rolling her eyes at me. "Yea, I guess we will."

The first thing I do when I get to the farm is look for Annie. Its been a few hours, so I need to make sure she's alright. I hear screams coming from upstairs, so I rush upstairs to find where they are at. Cashmere is getting in position to deliver the baby, and Cato is there trying to help out.

"She's alright from what I've seen Katniss." Cashmere mumbles

Annie looks like she is in extreme page, which of course she is in. I mean we have no doctors and drugs to help her. She's going all natural.

"She's ready," Cashmere announces. "Annie when I say push, I need you to push."

She nods her head. "Katniss, hold my hand." She squeaks out. So I listen.

Annie doesn't deserve this. The child she deserves, but not the conditions. Finnick is dead, Snow made this life crap, and she isn't the strongest person, as much as i hate to admit that. "Annie, you can do it."

"Push."

Her screams get louder. She practically breaks my hand from how hard she squeezes it. I give her encouraging words.

"One more Annie."

And she does her last push. I hear a soft cry from the new creature. I look over and see Cashmere cutting the cord. She hands the baby to Annie, slowly.

"It's a boy," Cashmere smiles at Annie.

The baby is adorable. He comes from two beautiful parents. Annie takes slow breathes as the lets the child's image sink into her brain.

"I love him." Is all Annie says.

As Annie says those words, she goes limp. I see her grip on the loosen, so I reach to take the baby away from her.

"She's bleeding, oh crap." Cashmere cries out and moves back to help her.

The baby squirms in my arms. The combination of feeling a mixture of Annie and Fin and seeing Annie dying right before me breaks my heart.

"I can't-" Cashmere's voice cracks. "She's not going to make it." I see Cashmere back away, and hide her face in her hands.

She didn't deserve this.

"Take the baby Cash." My voice tries to stay steady, but it gives away. I hand her the baby and she takes him in her arms. I walk out the room, down the stairs and pass up everyone in the living room. I walk outside towards the field. I look for a spot and then lay down in the grass.

Only then I let myself cry.

I'm pissed at the fact that I lost both of my best friends within months. I don't have my family anymore…they're gone.

Peeta, the Baby, and everyone else is your family

Thats not the point. I had Annie and Madge before Peeta was mine. The baby is ours now, but I feel so broken.

Move on and dwell on it later. You have a more important job to do.

That's right. I have to kill Snow. Tonight if I have to.

It took a lot of patience for me to write this, lol. I wanted to attempt to make it a bit longer than usual but I also needed to get the update out there ASAP. I'm going to try to finish this first before I continue with my other stories, because I'm close to the end anyway. I'm also debating if I should make a sequel to it or not, but I think I won't get enough inspiration to continue on, or enough time.
