It had been about a week since Skye had gone into a coma, and although she showed some improvement, getting taken out of the ICU and into a regular room, she didn't show any signs of waking up.
"Why don't you go back with the others and get a change of clothes, Ward." Maria said, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder.
"Are you sure?" He asked, looking up at her.
Maria nodded, "Well, you stayed with me once." She said, and took Grant's place beside Skye's bedside.
She stayed like that for more than twenty minutes, and although she was tired, she didn't want to fall asleep and seem rude.
"How's she doing?" A voice asked.
She turned as Steve came up behind her and handed her a bottle of water.
"She's been showing some improvement, but not any sign of waking up." She said, sighing as she added, "It took you forty minutes to bring me back a bottle of water?"
"Had to head back with Coulson and make sure the others didn't kill each other while we're gone. They'll be coming by again shortly."
"They don't have to."
Steve shrugged, "They want to."
Maria nodded and abruptly turned to where Skye was sleeping, to see her groan and her eyes flickering several times before they finally opened.
"Hey, how're you feeling?" Steve asked, giving Skye a soft smile as she looked at them with confusion in her brown eyes.
"Where am I? What happened?"
"You're in the hospital. What's the last thing that you remember?" Maria asked, placing a hand on Skye's shoulder as she pressed the call button on the monitor.
Skye shrugged, "I don't know, really. I gave Emily a charm bracelet and then I decided to go to the bathroom and take a shower. I felt pain and saw blood and then i'm waking up here. Where's Grant? How long have I been out?"
"Grant will be back soon. We told him and the others to go get changed and shower. You're also going to get some other visitors later on. You've been out for about a week."
Skye nodded and turned to the door as the doctor came in followed by Grant and the others.
"Hey, babe. Sorry I wasn't here when you initially woke up." Grant said, bending down to kiss Skye on the cheek.
"The baby. Where's the baby?" Skye asked, looking at the tall blonde doctor who stood checking Skye's medical chart.
"Well, Skye, the baby is perfectly healthy, and I assume you know that it's a baby girl. When she was first born, she didn't want to breathe at first and was without oxygen for a few minutes, but that was easily fixed. You did start hemorrhaging, and you've been out for the last week."
"Is she allowed to hold the baby, yet?" Emily asked, the first one to break the silence.
The doctor gave a soft smile and left the small room, the sound of her footsteps fading in the distance before they could hear them again and she came in wheeling a small cot with a tiny bundle in it.
Dr. Milano carefully reached in and picked up the infant, handing her to Skye with care.
Skye took the baby gently in her arms, tears falling down her cheeks at the tiny being in her arms. The little baby had a full head of dark hair and a light skin tone. Not as light as Grants, but not as tan as Skye was. A little in between.
"She's so small." She said, cradling the baby and kissing her on the forehead.
"You were small too." Coulson said, smiling at his daughter.
"Do you have a name in mind?"

Maddison "Maddie" Melinda Ward, Evie, Isla, Margaret (Maggie), Emma, Amelia, Katrina, Melinda, Emily, Lydia, Natalie, Cassandra (Cassie), Elise, Meghan, Hope, Isabelle, Lyric, Lyra, Lucy/Luciana.
The top four I will put in a hat and pick one that way! Feel free to combine the names!
