#65 Bars Broken
"Here are your keys, shoelaces, phone, and wallet." The gruff officer said, handing Derek a plastic bag full of his belongings. "Thanks." Derek replied, stepping away from the officer. For the first time in 6 months, Derek was finally in clothes that wasn't a jumpsuit and didn't smell like garbage. Derek looked around the waiting room, trying to find her, or as of now, them. Derek was confused and worried when he didn't see her that is until he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket.
He pulled his phone out and saw a text from Casey, 'Come outside!' it read. Derek slowly walked through the doors, almost blinded by the sunlight he had missed for several months. He looked around until he saw her, standing there, more beautiful than ever. Her hair was illuminating and shiny, falling easily down her back. He smiled and ran to his wife, and she met him halfway. When they reached each other, they both pulled the other in for a tight hug. "I'm sorry I just couldn't go inside that place again, I had to stay outside." She explained shakily. "Don't worry, neither of us will ever be in there again." He promised her, holding her even tighter.
"I've missed this, holding you, I just missed you." Casey said, her voice finally cracking. Derek stroked her hair lovingly and picked her up. "I've missed you more than you could ever imagine." He whispered, spreading kisses all over her hair and face. "I love you Case." He whispered, cupping her face and kissing her with all the passion of several months apart squeezed out in that one kiss.
Finally they broke apart and Derek finally had to ask, "Where's-where's the baby?" Casey took a sharp breath, "She's at the house, with a babysitter. I'm sorry Der, I couldn't bring our baby here. I want your first meeting to be somewhere positive and I couldn't stomach bringing her here." She said. Derek nodded, "Thank you. And I agree prison is no place for a baby girl. I can't wait to meet her." He said kissing her on the temple, and wrapping his arm around her shoulders as they walked to Casey's car.
"She looks like you." Casey said, as they slid into their sides. Derek smiled proudly, "Oh yeah?" He asked, and Casey nodded. "The same smile and cute dimples." She added. "Before we get home, I just want to talk for a minute.' Casey said, and Derek internally sighed, he knew this conversation was not gonna be a fun one. "I love you Derek, so much. You're my soulmate, and my one true love. I want to be with you forever, but now we have a child and I have someone else to think about. I want her to be happy and safe, and never have to go through unnecessary bad things. So I need you to promise me that this is the last time we'll be here. You can't do this to our daughter, and me. Please." Casey said seriously. "Case, I just lost control, that man insulted you and tried to put moves on you. I couldn't help it. I'm sorry I scared you, and I'm sorry that this happened. You and our baby mean the world to me and this will never happen again. Prison is just the past now. I promise, love." He said seriously, cupping one cheek and looking her straight in the eye. Casey smiled, "Okay then, ready to meet your daughter?"

Soon the pair pulled up at their house and got out of the car. Nerves finally started to hit Derek, he was going to finally be able to meet his daughter. "Don't be nervous, she'll love you." Casey reassured him, squeezing his hand tightly.
The two slowly went inside and Derek met the babysitter, and she quickly left. "I'll go get her. Wait one moment." Casey instructed him. A moment later she reappeared with the most beautiful baby that Derek had ever seen. Blue eyes and patched of brunette hair like her mother, and the cutest smile and facial expressions that mirrored his. "Derek meet Alexis Nicole Venturi, your daughter." Casey introduced. "She's beautiful." He said in awe. "Do you want to hold her?" Casey asked, and Derek's face paled. "Case I don't know.." He said nervously. "You'll be great, here." She said, gently handing Alexis over to him. As soon as he held his daughter and she wrapped her tiny hand around Derek's finger, he was completely in love. "This is what I want. Us forever. Nothing is ever going to take me away from this family." Derek said, and Casey joined her husband and daughter, and the just stayed close together.
And for the first time, at the beginning of their forever, their little family was together.
