Chapter 29

"Did you want a coffee Matt?" Laura asked, standing in the kitchen.

"Yeah thanks, will the girls still be able to work?" He asked, wrapping his arm around Gabby's shoulders.

"With a police detail, but I recommend they don't. We don't know what the gang is likely to do." Antonio said, as Laura placed a steaming mug of coffee in front of Matt before sitting down next to her husband.

"I agree with you. Gabs, I don't think you and Shay should go back to work." Matt said, turning to face her.

"Are you serious? I'm still going to work." Gabby said, looking at him with an astonished look on her face.

"Gabby, think about it. You or Shay could be seriously injured or worse, killed. I don't think Severide would be very happy with Antonio or I if that happened?" Matt argued, trying to bring some humour into the conversation.

"Why can't you just support my decision Matt," Gabby nearly yelled, not seeing the funny side of what he said as she walked into the kitchen and leaned against the counter.

"Because it's a stupid one," Matt yelled back also standing up and facing her.

"Leave me alone," Gabby whispered, turning her to him.

"Fine," He said, walking out and slamming the door for extra measure.

"Gabby, you need to listen to us, we are just trying to keep you and Shay safe." Antonio said, trying to reason with his baby sister.

"Antonio, I can't just sit at home all day and twiddle my thumbs." She said, looking up at him with tears in her eyes.

"You can come and sit with me," Laura said, cutting off whatever Antonio was about to say.

"But-" Gabby started before Antonio cut her off.

"But nothing Gabs, please just take time off work until we catch the guy." He said, gathering her into a hug.

"Fine," She mumbled pulling back as the two kids came running downstairs and into the kitchen.

Next Day-Shay and Severide's Apartment

"Hey guys," Shay said as she let Gabby and Laura into the apartment before closing and locking the door behind them.

"Hey, where's Kelly?" Gabby asked, as they sat down at the kitchen island.

"Morning ladies," Severide said, with a satisfied grin on his face.

"Looks like someone had a good night." Laura commented, sitting next to Gabby. A mere five seconds later, a brunette walks down the stairs and grabs her hand before kissing Kelly on the cheek.

"Have a good day," She said before leaving through the front door.

"Does that answer your question?" Shay said, joining the other girls in laughter.

"So what did you lot have planned for the day, other than laughing at my expense." Severide said, as he poured himself a bowl of cereal.

"Antonio and Casey are at work, which you are going to be late for if you don't hurry up. We are just going to hang out at the bakery since Laura is still on light duties," Gabby piped up, sending an accusatory glare towards her sister-in-law.

"So sue me, what Antonio doesn't know won't hurt him." Laura shrugged, giving Gabby a little shove, causing them to laugh.

"Come on you two. See ya later Severide!" Shay yelled, pushing the other two women out the door.

"See ya," He called back, before going upstairs to shower.

District 21

"Platt, any response to our BOLO put out on the gang?" Antonio asked, walking up to the desk where she was sitting.

"What do you think Detective? If there was, you lot wouldn't be sitting up there on your arses twiddling your thumbs," She snapped, looking up from her paperwork.

"Kind of like what you're doing now Sarge?" Antonio quipped, giving her a sarcastic smirk.

A chrous of "oohs" followed from the surrounding officers in hearing vicinity in the lobby.

"Watch it Detective Dawson," Platt said, returning the smirk as Lindsay came running down the stairs.

"Antonio, we have a lead." She said breathlessly before they both ran up the stairs.

Upstairs

"What do we have?" He asked, walking up to the whiteboard where Cresswell was putting new pictures up.

"Another two drive bys." Halstead said, handing him a copy of the file that Jin had just finished handing out.

"How old were the victims?" Antonio asked, not bothering to read the file yet.

"21 and 13." Cresswell said, as Lindsay's face paled at realizing how old the girl was.

"Any witnesses?" Olinksy asked, eating one of his many banana's that he hides around the precinct.

"Dude, how can you eat so many banana's in one day?" Ruzek asked, giving his partner and funny look.

"That isn't focusing on the case," Dawson said, glaring at the younger officer/detective.

"Sorry," He said sheepishly before turning back to the file in front of him.

"Right, as to your question from earlier Al, we don't have any witnesses. We are still waiting for an responses to our BOLO and ABP." Cresswell said, turning to face his crew.

"Sir, we need to find them. Is there any other way?" Antonio asked, leaning against his desk.

"Not until we hear back on the ABP and BOLO. Sorry Dawson." Cresswell said, before retreating back to his office and closing his door.

"Damnit." Antonio yelled, frustrated throwing the file across the room.
