Later that night
"Have you two finished your homework?" Antonio asked as they cleaned up after dinner and took plates into the kitchen.
"I have some English to work on. Is Mom okay?" Eva asked, as she leaned against the counter while her father and aunt cleaned up.
"Yeah she will be okay. She is just really tired." Antonio said, nearly dropping a plate as he went over to the sink.
"Would you be careful with the plates," Laura said, as she ran a hand through her hair.
"I thought you were sleeping?" He asked, wrapping his arm around her waist and kissing her forehead.
"Can't sleep, and I'm thirsty." She said, walking over to the fridge and getting a bottle of water out.
"Are you hungry?" Gabby asked, looking over at her with concern when she shook her head.
"You should eat something babe," Antonio said, looking at her with concern written all over his face.
"And I'm not hungry," She said again, glaring at him before sitting down at the kitchen table.
"Are you feeling okay?" Gabby asked, as her medic training kicked in. Knowing something wasn't right.
"I'm tired and I feel like crap. Does that cover it?" Laura said, as Gabby came and sat down next to her.
"Sounds like you're getting sick, you should be resting." She said, looking at her carefully.
"I'll be fine, I will make an appointment for tomorrow." She said, coughing a little as she stood up and walked towards the living room.
"I think you should go upstairs and get some rest," Antonio said, following her along with Gabby while the kids did the dishes.
"And I think you should stay out of the kitchen," She retorted, sitting on the couch and tucking her feet under her.
"She has a point, you did nearly drop the plates." Gabby said, sitting in the arm chair and copying her sister-in-law.
"Oh shush." Antonio said, sending a glare as he sat on the couch.
"I'm going to go shower," Gabby said before leaving the room, leaving them alone.
"I still think you should be upstairs resting." He said, turning to look at his wife who just glared at him.
"And I think you should go get me some watermelon." Laura said, picking up her reading book that was lying on the table next to her.
"Isn't that the same craving you had when you were pregnant with Eva?" Antonio asked standing up and grabbing his jacket and car keys.
"Yeah, also grab some beef jerky." She said, as he walked towards.
"Babe, thats gross." He shuddered as he quickly walked out the door before she could throw her book at him.
"Jerk!" She mumbled under her breath as Eva and Diego walked into the family room.
"Can we play a board game Mom?" Diego asked, sitting next to her on the couch.
"Sure thing sweetie." Laura said, kissing the top of his head.
An Hour later
"I"m back!" Antonio called, just as Gabby walked down the stairs with curly wet hair.
"Where did you go?" She asked, as she followed him into the kitchen.
"Store, Laura wanted watermelon and beef jerky." Antonio said, unpacking the bag onto the kitchen counter.
"Nice, but gross at the same time. I hope you don't want to eat them together," Gabby said, as she joined them in the family room.
"Of course not." Laura laughed, with the others joining in.
Firehouse 51
"Hey, how is Gabby?" Shay asked, sitting next to Matt and the long table in the common room in between calls as they had been really busy all day.
"She is good, Antonio and Gabs are going to see a therapist about her PTSD but she should be cleared for work soon which is good. I am going with them. So come around at about 4.30pm." Matt said, looking up from the newspaper he was reading.
"Thats great news!" Herrmann piped up from a few chairs down as he listened in on their conversation.
"It is! I will be there!" Shay said as the bells went off signalling yet another call within in the last 20 minutes of their last one.
Antonio and Laura's house
"When is the next appointment?" Gabby asked quietly, looking up from the book she was reading as Laura was fast asleep on Antonio's shoulder.
"Tomorrow at 3.00pm with Matt." He replied as he looked away from the Blackhawks game that was currently on the TV and both kids were watching. "Alright you two, go get ready for bed. Way past your bedtimes."
"But Dad!" They complained standing up and turning to face him.
"No buts, go." Antonio said firmly, pointing towards the stairs. "I will be up soon."
"Okay, night Aunt Gabby," They both grumbled, hugging and kissing their aunt before making their way upstairs. Fighting all the way up to their rooms.
"I'm going to go to bed. I will see you in the morning." Gabby said, kissing Antonio's cheek before making her way upstairs to the guest room and closing the door behind her.
Later that night
"Gabby!" Antonio yelled, shaking her awake out of her nightmare.
"Don't touch me!" She squeaked, sitting up and pushing Antonio away from her.
"Hey, it's okay. It was just a nightmare," He said, trying to settle her down as he sat on the edge of the bed.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you. Is Laura still asleep?" Gabby asked, leaning against the headboard of the bed as she ran a hand through her hair.
"No, she is still out cold. Do you want me to stay?" He asked, looking at her with concern.
"No, I will be alright. Go back to sleep." Gabby said, laying back down and pulling the covers up and snuggled down into the sheets.
"Okay, good night." Antonio said, kissing her forehead before walking back out and closing the door behind him. As he stood outside the door he could hear her crying softly to herself.
Next day
"Breakfast is ready!" Laura called from kitchen as the kids came running in with their bag on their backs.
"Hey Mom, what's in the pancakes?" Eva asked, looking up at her mother with a curious look on her face.
"Watermelon, why?" Laura asked, looking at her oldest who had a disgusted look on her face.
"I think I will just have cereal." She said, grabbing the cornflakes out of the cupboard and a bowl.
"Morning," Antonio said, kissing his daughter's head and his wife's cheek before rubbing her baby bump.
"Morning, pancakes?" Laura asked, taking another bite of the pancake on her plate.
"I wouldn't. They have watermelon in them," Eva said as she passed her father to go sit at the kitchen table.
"Ah no thanks, I'm fine." Antonio said, grabbing a coffee cup and pouring it in.
"You're not going to eat it because it has watermelon in it are you?" Laura asked, turning to look at him.
"No, sorry babe." Antonio said, kissing her cheek again as she glared up at him.
"I'm sure you are. You can keep saying that while you drag your ass to sleep on the couch." She snapped, before walking off and heading up the stairs and slamming their bedroom door shut.
"What did you say to her?" Gabby asked, walking into the kitchen as Antonio sighed.
"I didn't eat her watermelon pancakes." Antonio said, leaning against the counter.
"You better go make things right, she was crying. Her emotions are all over the place." Gabby said, as he left the room and headed towards their bedroom.
Upstairs
"Laura, will you let me in? Please?" Antonio said, knocking on the locked bedroom door.
"Have you stopped being a jerk?" She sniffed from the other side of the door.
"Yes," He replied as she unlocked the door and he walked in. "I'm sorry babe."
"It's okay. I'm sorry too." He said, hugging her close and kissing the top of her head.
"Do you have to go to work?" She asked, sitting on the edge of their bed.
"Yeah I do, but how about I come home on my lunch break and see how you're doing?" He asked, as they both walked back downstairs together.
"Sounds good, I have doctors at 10 o'clock." Laura said, sitting down at the kitchen table.
"Hey Mom, these pancakes are great!" Diego said, taking another bite and smiling at his laughing family.
