It was 4 weeks later, Gabby had moved back in with Matt and their relationship was doing better than ever. Antonio and Laura were expecting a baby girl in 4 months time and they couldn't be happier. Eva and Diego were exactly the same, fighting. Only Eva has managed to find herself a boyfriend.
Gabby POV- Firehouse 51
Today was my first day back at 51, and I was so excited! I got to see and work with my best friend again. I have missed Otis and Cruz's jokes and pranks so much but I haven't missed their cooking attempts.
I was sitting in the locker room at 51 when I heard running footsteps and a sqeaul. At first I thought Otis had brought yet another girl to the firehouse but it turned out to be my blonde best friend.
"Gabby! You're back!" She squealed, pouncing on me and nearly knocking us of the bench from the force of impact.
"Hi sweetie, I've missed you too," I said, hugging her back tightly, as Matt walked into the locker room dressed and smiling at Shay's reaction.
"I had no idea you were coming back today. I thought I was going to have McCauley again or even Chout." Shay said, not letting me go as we walked through the bunk room.
Chout?" I asked, knwing there was no partner worse than having Chout as your partner.
"Yeah, him. I need therapy. He talked, and talked, and talked and talked." She shuddered, as claps and whistles came from all the men in the common room as we walked in.
"Hey Dawson! Glad you're finally back! It's not like I don't appreciate you having back or nothin, but can you please cook us all breakfast before we get food poisoning again?" Herrmann called from his spot in the armchair next to Mouch.
"Please," Chief said, joining us in the common room and sitting down at the head of the table. "And its great to have you back Gabriela."
"Thanks Chief," I said, as Cruz and Otis made a sad face at the men's comments about their cooking skills.
"Hey! We're trying here!" Otis and Cruz yelled from the kitchen as I walked closer to see what they were making or should I say, trying to make.
"What are you making?" I asked, looking into the pans that were spitting and sizzling.
"Pancakes, but I don't think the pan is meant to be spitting and sizzling." They replied in unison as I pulled a fac and looked back up at them.
"Leave the cooking to me from now on. Clean these out and I will see what I can whip up. And you're right, they aren't meant to be spitting and sizzling." I said, turning off the stove as they boys picked them up and walked over to the sink, bickering the whole way.
I laughed as I pulled out another pan and went to the fridge to look for eggs and bacon.
5 minutes later
"Chow!" I called as I put the plates, knives and forks out for the men and I grabbed a plate and sat down next to Shay and Matt.
"Thanks Dawson!" They yelled as they digged into their breakfast while talking to one another.
"To Dawson! Welcome back to 51! The place hasn't been the same without you!" Chief said, raising his orange juice in toast with the men following suit.
"Thanks guys," I said as Connie walked in with a letter in her hands and stopped behind me.
"Dawson, this came for you from Head Office," She said, before turning and leaving back towards the the office.
"What's it about baby?" Matt asked from his spot next to me as I read the letter twice over carefully.
"Few years ago, when I first took the EMT test, I also took the Firefighter test. And I haven't thought about it much until now. I've been accepted to start at the Academy next round." I said as the jaws of all the men sitting at the tables dropped and smiles took over soon after as they hollered and cheered.
"Way to go Dawson!" The boys and Shay yelled, clearly happy for me and Matt sat there and just smiled, I knew he wouldn't be very happy about it.
"Take it Dawson, you always have a place here at 51 and this is a once in a lifetime experience for you!" Chief said, as there was a round of applause and claps on the back from everyone.
"Thanks guys, what do you think Matt?" I asked, wanting to get his opinion and approval before making my decision. I already knew I was going to say yes. It's what I've wanted for a long time and no one can take that away from me.
"Do what is best and what makes you happy baby, I will support you no matter what." He said sincerely, kissing my head before walking to the kitchen to wash the dishes and to supervise Cruz and Otis in the kitchen.
"You'll make a great firefighter Dawson. Take it and I will see you in class." Severide said, patting me on the back as he passed by.
"Thanks Kelly, oh and treat me like all the other candidates. Don't give me special treatment." I said, as he turned back with a smile on his face.
"Oh, I won't." He replied, before disappearing towards his office before I followed Shay out to the ambo to take inventory.
Apparatus Floor
"Awh, I can't believe you are going to be leaving me again." Shay mumbled, pulling her saddest face on me as she knew I couldnt' resist it as she grabbed the checklist out of my hand.
"I might not even pass Shay, anyway I will be here the days you are on shift and I'm not in class training." I replied, as my brother walked through the front doors. "What are you doing here?"
"Casey wanted to talk to me about something. How's first day back?" He asked, kissing my cheek as Matt joined us at 61.
"Good, I will tell you later." I replied, as the bells went off calling us away to a cardiac arrest.

Casey's POV
We watched Gabby and Shay rush to the front of the ambulance before they got in and sped away towards their call.
"So you wanted to talk." Antonio asked, as we walked outside the firehouse and around the corner before stopping.
"Yeah, Gabby got a letter this morning from the Academy. She got accepted to become a candidate and train to become a firefighter," I started expressing my worry to him about her training to become a firefighter, a dangerous job.
"And you're worried about her?" He asked, stuffing his hands into his jeans pockets.
"Very," I replied, sighing softly to myself as a call came through for Truck 81, Engine 51, Squad 3 and Battalion 25 to a building collapse. Since 61 was already out on a run they would bring in another ambulance if we found anyone.
"I will come back alter and we will talk then," Antonio said, quickly shaking my hand before I ran off towards the truck and my crew.
Scene
"Capp, Tony. You're with me, conducting primary search and rescue on the second floor." Severide said, as he got out of his truck and walked towards the Chief.
"Cruz, Herrmann, vent the back just in case. Otis and Mouch, you're with me. Primary survey of the first floor. We will let you know Chief,' I said, before we took our teams inside to do searches.
"Second floor is clear Chief, going down to first floor to assist Casey." I heard Severide say through the radio as I heard the floor below us creak loudly.
"Severide, stay where you are. Floor is cre-"I started to say before I heard a loud bang under our feet and then darkness.
So this is the last chapter for The Ball, there is a sequel it will be called Our Future. I know I left it on a cliffhanger, it will be continued on from the last sentence of this chapter. Please tell me what you think and I will get to writing the new one. I've been working on this since 5.00am :) xoxo
