Joss hurried over to John's apartment and let herself in.
She knew John wasn't doing okay after saving a new number. From what Finch and Shaw told her, the number had been the orphan child of a couple that John and is former partner Kara Stanton had murdered for the CIA.
Apparently the little girl grew up and was looking for answers and the CIA didn't want her to find any.
Once he and Shaw saved her, the girl figured it out and called John a monster and a terrible human being.
As she moved into his dark apartment she saw him sitting on the floor at the foot of his bed with a empty whiskey bottle.
She moved over to him slowly and sat on her knees next to him, he was hurting and she needed to bring him back from the ledge.
Joss reached out and held him against her chest and cradled his head and told him she loved him over and over again and that nothing would ever change that.
After a few minutes she felt her shirt get damp and she rubbed his back as he cried.
