Rational Fear
"I got something for you." She spoke suddenly, startling him. She sat up from her position, turning away from his embrace. Miroku frowned at the sudden loss of her warm body pressed against his. He watched the outline of her naked form as she moved across the room. Leaning back on his elbows, he waited to receive the gift she had gotten him. His eyes narrowed at the sound of a zipper coming undone and of rustling paper.
"What more could you possibly give me?" He mused as she walked towards him. Despite the lack of light in the room, he could see something in her hands. The mattress hardly gave way when she sat down. He smirked when she lightly slapped his arm. He could only imagine how adorable she looked with a blush coloring her cheeks.
"I thought about your request and. . . It took a lot of consideration." She said nervously. The bed sheets shifted as she started to play with the fabric anxiously. "Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to give you something that I wrote." That caught his interest; not to say that he wasn't interested before. Miroku was momentary confused by Kagome's reaction. He didn't even know if she was a goodwriter or a bad one, but her reaction suggested that she didn't like what she wrote. He hated to sound so cruel, even in his thoughts but he like many, was picky a picky reader. He would not want to read something that Kagome herself thought upon negatively.
"It is a little something; nothing really good in my opinion. Just a sample of a different writing style I've been experimenting for the past few years. I am a journalist, not a romantic novelist." She giggled as she stopped her rambling. There was no humor in the sound; it was as if she were laughing at herself. Miroku moved forward and reached for her, using his hand to lead him in his search. The moment his fingers touched the skin of her check, he moved to caress her lips. He smiled at the discovery, finding that she was nibbling on her bottom lip. He leaned in and captured her bottom lip between his.
"I am sure it is wonderful." He murmured against her lips. Placing his hand against hers, he took the bound paper into his hand. Turning his torso, without breaking contact with her, he placed her writing on the bedside table. He leaned back, bringing her with him as he lay against the bed once more. She left at dawn while he slept. Kagome made sure to place the papers on his briefcase before she said goodbye. Her farewell fell on deaf ears.
