Chapter 30: The war

"I can't believe we're having a boy." Blaine said as he lifted Kurt from the floor and swung him around.

"It's great, and if he's gonna look anything like you we're going to have to beat the girls or guys of off him with a stick." Kurt said laughing.

"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it." Blaine said kissing Kurt straight on the mouth.

"Let's just hope he's healthy." Kurt said putting his hand on his stomach the little tike kicking like knew they were talking about him.

"Blaine give me your hand." Kurt said and Blaine hesitantly gave his hand to his husband, and Kurt placed the hand right over the area where the little boy was kicking his stomach.

"Oh my God, it's so cool, Kurt that is proof of our love right there." Blaine said amazed at the small kick he had barely felt from their boy in Kurt belly.

"I couldn't ask for a better gift." Kurt said stroking his belly.

"Let's sleep." Blaine said as he pulled Kurt over to the bathroom to put on their pajamas and the they fell asleep spooning in the bed.

The next morning they were rudely awaken by a servant running into the room.

"Sirs, I'm sorry to bother you but I have unfortunate news." The male servant said.

"What's seems to be so grand that you find it appropriate to barge in here, while we are not descent." Blaine asked immediately slipping into the master state.

"Both of you were asked in the meeting room." The servant said and then leaving while they quickly got out of bed and almost raced towards the meeting room.

"Kurt, Blaine it's good to see you." Daniel said as he held open the door so Kurt and Blaine could walk in seeing they were the last to arrive.

"Daniel what seems to be the problem?" Kurt asked as Blaine helped him down.

"There has just come a representative of Zoalin and he has declared war on us." Daniel said addressing everyone in the room, from the general to Blaine.

"On what terms?" Blaine asked knowing he had missed a couple of things when he was on his honeymoon.

"They say a soldier of Tresh broke into the castle and murdered one of their princesses." Daniel said.

"How can they possible know that it was one of Tresh's soldiers it might as well have been Dalton." Kurt said.

"Tresh's crest was found on the floor next to the bed where the princess lay dead her truth cut. It was the same crest that every soldier is made to carry." Daniel said and so the possibility of it being another country in the region was overruled immediately, although the possibility of it being a Dalton soldier disguised as one of Tresh was not.

"So what you are saying is that we don't have a choice but to go to war." Blaine said as he slowly wrapped his head around the idea.

"That my son, is exactly what I am saying ." Daniel said.

"And I am sorry that you will have to leave Kurt behind for a month or two." Daniel continued.

And so it happened that after saying goodbye Daniel, Blaine and the army left for the border between Zoalin and Tresh, Daniel leaving his wife and children behind and Blaine leaving his pregnant husband and his unborn baby boy, to go fight a war of which they didn't know they would survive.

The next day Kurt woke up feeling alienated because of the empty left side, and put on some easy clothing, going to the dining room where he found Catherine more so pushing her food around than actually eating it.

"Not hunger either?" Kurt asked as he took a seat beside her.

"No not really. But you should really eat something, or the baby will not have enough nourishment." Catherine said.

"How can I eat knowing my husband is out there risking his life right now." Kurt said tears coming into his eyes.

"Oh Kurt, I know exactly how you feel but not eating isn't going to solve that problem." Catherine said hugging Kurt close to her and then he really started sobbing.

"I just don't wanna raised the little guy on my own." Kurt said though the sobs.

"You won't have to." Catherine said.

"Daniel will take good care of Blaine, and Blaine himself has had enough training that he's not in danger whatsoever." Catherine said.

"Training is a little bit different that battle." Kurt said finally calming down feeling the baby move around as if wanting to reassure his daddy that everything would be okay.

"I have to go." Catherine said.

"Townspeople have audiences, you're welcome to join me if you'd like." Catherine continued.

"No thank, I think I'm going to lie down and calm down a bit." Kurt said.

"Don't go walking in the garden by yourself." Catherine said knowing that Kurt liked to do that, but that assassins of Zoalin could be hiding on the walls.

"I won't." Kurt said as he nodded at Catherine and left the room.

After a good couple hours of extra sleep Kurt went to the gates leading to the garden and the guard station there volunteered to join him.

"I won't bother you, sir." The guard said.

"I don't mind, I've been by myself all morning, a talk will do me good." Kurt said letting the guard walk next to him.

"So what's your name?" Kurt asked getting a surprised look from the man.

"Don't be afraid I won't bite, not too long ago I was a servant here myself." Kurt urged.

"Dean." He said looking down.

"Nice to meet you Dean, my name is Kurt, but I'm sure you already knew that." Kurt said getting a chuckle out of Dean.

"So Dean, as you know all about me, tell me about you." Kurt said not having to ask if the guard knew the story.

"I'm 26 years old and I've been a guard here for about 5 years after completing my army stage, I have brother who's also a guard here, he's stationed at the main entrance, his name is Sam, tall guy. And then I have my boyfriend, Cas. Who works here as a servant serving dinner." Dean said.

"And that's about it, not a really eventful life." Dean continued.

"Eventful enough." Kurt said as he sat on the bench and Dean position himself in front of Kurt.

"Please sit." Kurt said motioning to the empty place next to him.

"Oh no, I couldn't I'd feel to uncomfortable, beside this way I can keep an eye on the surroundings better." Dean said and Kurt understood.

"So how did you and Cas meet?" Kurt asked, having been really surprised at the outing he had witnessed of the macho looking man before him.

"We met here actually, we have the same hours, we went to a couple bars together and it escaladed from there." Dean said.

"We've been together now for almost 3 years." Dean finished.

"That's great, congratulations." Kurt said and then Dean almost jumped on top of him as Kurt head something whizzing by.

"Better go inside." Dean said as they looked at the arrow impaled in the grass in front of Kurt feet, which would have been his head if Dean hadn't made him duck.

"Thank you." Kurt said fear written on his face.

They ran to the castle where Dean told one of the other soldier standing at the entrance that there were assassins and that they should be found.

Not half an hour later the assassins were brought into the castle unarmed of course in front of the queen and Kurt.
