"If I had no more time, no more time left to be here, would you cherish what we had? Was it everything that you were looking for?"-Alicia Keys
She felt tired and cold everything was muffled. She remembered the little girl, the woman and the gun, before she processed the scene she had already thrown herself into the line of fire. The pain in her lower stomach hurt at first and then everything started to feel numb. She remembered Johns face, she'd never seen him look so frightened. Then she remembered the paramedics and then the ambulance ride, John never left her side.
She wanted to scold him for staying because he could end up getting caught, but the other part of her was glad he was there to hold her hand even though she couldn't feel his touch anymore.
She didn't remember entering the hospital but she remembered the doctors telling John he couldn't follow her into surgery. She wanted to tell so many things but she couldn't speak her, it was like her voice left her body. As the pushed her down the stark white hallway she tried to stay awake but her eyes wanted to close.
Her life didn't flash before her eye like they say happens, it was her regrets that did. She regretted not trying out for the track team in high school, she regretted not getting Taylor a dog when he was eight years old, she regretted not being able to see her son one last time, but what she regretted the most was not telling John how she felt, not telling him that she regretted every wasted moment, every lost touch, and every missed opportunity.
She heard the rushed voice of the surgeons trying to save her. She didn't what to die but if she did she hoped that John would remember what he was fighting for. As her vision started to fade to darkness, her last thought was of how foolish she had been in thinking that there'd always be a tomorrow.
